Paul’s Peg > Finally, a Cap I Can Stand Behind

Marvelous News has got some images of the Marvel Universe Secret Wars comic two packs that will hit shelves later this summer. They simply look fantastic and if you’re a MOC collector you shouldn’t be disappointed. I’m just happy that I will be able to get the chance to get my hands on a Captain America with wings on his head. I’m sorry, but the newfangled wingless Captain America is not my Captain America. My Cap has wings on his head and the constant ringing of Star Spangled Banner in his ears. I’m also really excited to get a Klaw figure for my superheroes to beat the crap out of.

I’m also looking forward to the Wolverine coming in this series. The brown costume one from the Origins series of figures that I picked up was horribly painted and I returned him to the store. Hopefully this one will be a little bit better in both the paint and articulation departments.

The Spider-Man pack is basically Hasbro telling me that I can save a few bucks.

  • Yeah, I know I'll get the Klaw/Cap pack, but the other packs are questionable.

    Any word on whether or not there will be 12 packs in the series?

  • Cool and very tempting, I used to have the original Secret Wars Cpatain America.

  • @Philip: Yes, there will be 12 sets.

    @Poe: I agree, THIS is the difinitive Wolverine. But WHY must they pack the figures I want with ones I don't? (retorical) ARGH!

  • Hey David, Poe didn't write this I did. Whenever you see "Paul's Peg" posts that's me, Paul.

    To answer your question, the reason that they do this is so you'll buy two figures and not one. They've done a really great job at suckering me out of more cash for G.I. Joe figures in two packs which usually contain one crap guy and one awesome one.

    Phillip: A twelve pack of 4" figures? I don't t think so. The cost alone would be enormous considering a single figure in this line is 7 bucks plus. I'd guess that MAYBE they'd do four or five figure packs, but that's probably unlikely unless the line continues to do as well as it is.

  • I'm glad that we're seeing a few more villains in this line, although the ratio of heroes to villains is still WAY off, I hope they start working on evening the scales in the next few waves.

  • Why the pouches though? I'm pretty sure the pouched look didn't come in til fairly recently.

  • @Finkrod: Probably because it's mostly a re-use of the modern-day sculpt. Except for Paul's beloved wing-tips, of course…

  • The wings are metal, and he used one to fight a shark once. So yeah, I agree that the wings are essential, because, y'know, shark attacks.

  • @Paul: Aha! That's why it says "by Paul" at the top. My bad. And I think Philip meant 12 2-packs, one for each issue of the series. Whether or not I'd get these is entirely up to the price at this point.

    @Frowny: That is too awesome.

  • really not trying to start play the troll, but i had precisely the opposite reaction to these: when i stopped the pics this morning, i went on a tear to my wife about how awful these look and how it pisses me off that characters like thunderball and klaw are getting released w/ such crappy figs when they got clamored for in marvel legends for years. i really think these look like dollar store knockoff toys. these are substaintially beneath even the lowered standards of the superhero showdown figs that came out from toybiz. the only thing making them hot or interesting is that there's no alternative anymore. just my PoV…
