G.I. Joe movie FUBAR?

Quite possibly.

If so, who’s surprised? This looked like a multi-car train wreck from the words “acceleration suit.”

You know what this is going to be? The new Masters of the Universe. As in the 1987 movie: a rushed film with an incoherent and yet paper-thin plot and little or no relation to the toy property outside of the names.

The acceleration suits are based on some the the US Army has been working on for awhile, although the GI JOE version is a very extreme version, the actual version is more or less a simple exo-skeleton that boosts the users strength and is designed to carry wounded and unconscious soldiers back to base.

As for the movie itself, I'm hopeful that it'll be good but I'm really on the fence on it. Hopefully it'll end be some good ol' fashioned mindless summer movie fun instead of a complete disaster.

it's a movie based on a cartoon designed to sell toys. ergo it has to be bad. the "dream movie" in your head won't happen, because you are imagining a good movie. these are 20 guys with no family or friends or real names shooting at but never killing 5 guys and a girl with no family, no lives, no friends or names.

  3. I watch No Holds Barred on a weekly basis. It has Stan Hansen in it. "Teeeny wanger"

    Good times.

@PrfktTear, Exactly. I got skin head for when I go to see G.I. Joe. Yo Joe. No, more mullet LOL.

  5. Whateverrrr… if its a turd, its a turd. If its good, its good. I'm still gonna see it…

  6. Damn, I don't have time to read all these comments.

I do want to say that Speed Racer is a good flick. A little long, but I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. The ninja fight alone is classic!

    "Ninja? More like Non-ja."

The good news is "with low expectations comes less disappointment." That is the trick to enjoying a lot of the summer blockbusters. I'm going to see this movie, smile at the explosions and special effects, and not let the ridiculous plot or lack of character development ruin my experience.

im still standing by my theory that this movie can't possibly suck for me!….i don't know anything about g.i.joe outside of my action figure adventures in a sandbox with snake eyes fighting off evil samurai , stephen sommers much like michael bay makes movies for kids with a.d.d. ( im 25 and i still have fits of dealing with it ) and transformers is my favorite movie ever…and i loved speed racer ( but i watched it on pain killers after i got a broken nose due to an unfortunate fork lift accident , so it made the trippy light show with monkey much better ) but i digress….GO JOE!

@Newton Gimmick, you want to see a great film about proffessional wrestling….check out 'No Holds Barred' starring Terry Bolea AKA Hulk Hogan, a cinematic masterpiece LOL. Only Joking.

The G.I. Joe film might be okay but will probably suck…as I said I am only interested in some of the toys, mainly the 25th repaints.

i'm usually pretty forgiving of movies like this…i absolutely LOVED transformers, i'm one of its biggest defenders…but i'm not looking forward to GI joe so much. too much goofiness about it.

as for sommers being fired, i don't buy that. at this late stage in the game? it would probably be wiser to just release the movie as is and wait for a "non-directors cut" dvd.

i mean come on, think of the piles of crap that get released every week. i can't imagine GI joe is SO bad that they needed to call in an emergency editor to create a whole new movie out of existing footage (which sounds kind of like a made-up thing anyway). especially since the release date is fast approaching and trailers are everywhere.

i'm not saying the movie won't be bad; on the contrary i'm pretty sure it'll suck. but lots of movies suck and they get released anyway. the most a studio usually does is a speedy re-shot ending, or (more often) simply not allow critics to pre-screen the film. it seems like some fanboy's wet dream that the director is fired at almost literally the last minute and some magical editor is going to come in and try to salvage the movie because test audiences thought it was LITERALLY the worst movie ever.

to me it seems just slightly less likely than the entire movie being scrapped and shot again from scratch with the technical advisors being made up of the forum members at gi joe websites with the highest post counts.

Yeah, I've compared Bay's Transformers to MOTU before — I wouldn't exactly call TF2007 rushed, but the rest of Poe's description of MOTU totally applies.

I rather enjoyed the transformers movie, though like all, was extremely disappointed by the way Bay portraits them. Oh well. Now i haven't seen Speed Racer, but from what I've seen from the trailers it sucks. G.I. Joe looks like every other holly-wooded movie based on Tv shows or toys. Its a fact of life that films based on toys, comics,or video games are going to suck/ of course there are the exceptions. (DARK KNIGHT)but enough said Cobra commander looks just as ridicules, if not more as scraps of metal Prime.

@misterbigbo: Well at least Park was in one of the GOOD new Star Wars movies.

    Oh, wait a minute…

    He was in….

    Never mind.
