He-Man Goes Bollywood

I always like to start the day with a little surrealism, so please enjoy “Chahiye He-Man He-Man,” a song from the Indian film Nafrat Ki Aandhi, apparently.

Try not to ask yourself whether the main woman is supposed to be Teela or Evil-lyn, or why Orko is wearing a shiny red muumuu, or why this is still 37% better than the 1987 American movie. These are things man was not meant to know.

Thanks to MisterBigBo for the tip.

  • Hahahaha, this is great. "He-man! He-man! I am He-Man"- brilliant, sounds like it's straight out of an 80s toy commercial.

  • ok… some thoughts..

    1. Am I the only one who liked the '87 movie? (really, I liked it as a kid and I still like it now)

    2. Teela-Lyn is pretty hot, in a Giada Dilaurentis kind of way

    3. How is all bollywood stuff that perfect mix of awful and awesome?

    4. Not one, but TWO pornstache men… setting a new precedent I think.

    5. not only indian he-man, but indian fabio as well.. good job!

  • I've seen clips of this before over the years; it's pretty awesome in it's wretchedness.

(My favorite Bollywood movie remains the epic that features luchador El Santo and Captain AMerica teaming up against Spider-MAn, who murders people with outboard motors and flesh-eating guinea pigs, however.)

I like the '87 movie too, for what it is. I still watch it occasionally, but I admit that I skip around and only watch the scenes with Skeletor in them. Even if a MOTU movie gets made soon and it fulfills every hardcore MOTU fan's wishes, I don't think we'd get a better Skeletor than Frank Langella gave us. He was AWESOME in that movie; he single-handedly makes the entire thing worthwhile.

  • I'm with you Jedi….as a kid, I loved He-Man the movie. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but I would imagine that if I saw it again at this age, I would feel otherwise.

  • jedi, loved the giada reference!! i actually read a funny blog post the other day referring to her "five head" as in, a forehead too big to be a four… i thought it was funny. i couldn't help but chuckle though, cuz my eyes never travel that far north.

  • @JediCreeper: I have a soft spot in my heart for the MOTU film. Its one of the first movies I have specific memories of actually going to see!

I love the scene when they come to earth and they find the bucket of chicken and Gwildor uses his grabber thing to pluck it out of the back of the car. Something about Man-At-Arms eating Fried Chicken amused me.

I love the cosmic key, it was one of those things you wanted as a kid I guess. Gwildor coulda joined up with Daft Punk and had a huge music career!

Frank Langella as Skeletor is obviously he best part of the whole film. I love the (obviously ripped off from Star Wars) scenes, like when Skeletor arrives on Earth in that flying thingie.

I also loved the scene where Skeletor finally gets "the power" and his new gold digs. Oh, and when he starts whipping He-Man and screaming "KNEEEL". I think thats when I first discovered S&M! ;-)

The coolest part of the film was the end (no joke) and after Skeletor fell down into the abyss a la Emperor Palpatine, and his hoodless head pops up out of the water and he says "I'll be Back".

  • JediCreeper, You are not alone in liking the 87 movie. What's odd is that I watched it a few months ago after not seeing it in years and I liked it even more. I don't know what it was, maybe I'd finally been able to get past that they weren't in Eternia or something. I don't know, I put it up as a huge like now and will totally defend it.

one of my favorite scenes too (and features a line I still use today "never think when you're hungry")

but its good to see there is some love for that thing… it's not perfect, but it certainly wasn't the eye-rape a lot of more recent movies turned out to be

also, funny thing about Giada, is that I am fascinated by her mouth and her gigantic set of perfectly rectangular teeth… making me an oddity, as even my sister is hypnotized by other, more uh.. bountiful features..
