Mattel has added a He-Ro page to Mattycollector. There are a couple of packaging photos, and it turns out the sword is intended to be blue to represent its power (it will be blue in all versions). It’s still translucent and has the speckled-glitter “star effect.” He’ll cost $20 on Mattycollector.
According to this month’s ToyFare (#144, in comic shops tomorrow), the staff gems will come in red, green, and purple. The SDCC He-Ro will have an SDCC logo sticker on his chest underneath his armor, which is apparently the only difference from the one that will be sold on Mattycollector.
Some fans over at He-Man.org have also deciphered his bio from the small photo:
Given the sword of life by the Overlords of the timeless dimension of Trolla, Ro was told to “go forth and combat evil.” During one such epic battle, he was infected with a techno-organic virus by Horde Supreme and sent through a vortex to the magic planet of Eternia. Once there, he was healed by Eldor in a mystical pool which absorbed his virus. In gratitude He-Ro swore to help free Eternia from the Snake Men and Horde invaders. He defended the free people alongside the great King Grayskull, eventually bequeathing his sword to the King upon his heroic death.
I can't wait to get He-RO! Hopefully I won't have to resort to ebay prices! I liked the black version of the sword better but the blue looks cool to!
Very cool looking but I think the clear yellowish version looked better, but I suppose it gives him a little more colour.
According to Toy Guru, the original version we saw on the prototype was actually molded in translucent black.
I want one, but alas if I got him I'd probably have to sell him in order to pay bills like I did with King Grayskull. God, I miss that guy.
Is it just me, or from some angles does he look bug-eyed and cross-eyed?

Same here. Thumbs down. The Sparkly sword, head band, gold belly button…all look a bit too feminine to me. lol
@Mario: I imagine they'll be making a statement about whether or not Man-At-Arms will be on hand for sale at SDCC, but if I had to guess I'd say they'll probably hold some units back to sell at the 'con (or ordered some extras in the production run). Same goes for Hordak.
But I can ask in the next Q&A round. Just remember to ask it in my next "Any questions for Mattel?" post.
My guess is that, if they do have some MAA at SDCC, they won't announce it until after July 15 to avoid reducing sales on that day.
I hear you Scott, & frankly, it's a bit gut-wrenching. I mean, my rational side says they'll have both Hordak & Man-At-Arms for sale, 'cause it's money in their pockets, but my irrational, toy obsessed side thinks that I'll be hit by irony. Anyhoo, I'll just ask the question in your next Q & A.

I doubt I wil bother buying every character I only want some of the main ones I like….so as cool as He-Ro is I do not know if I will bother…..the money for him could go towards a few really cool TransFormers or G.I. Joes.
He-Ro looks good. I hope we see a rerelease of King Grayskull soon also having missed out on him last year.
He-RO looks awesome! Definitely a first day buy for me..online. I find myself a lot more interested in what unique characters MOTUC has to offer and than the retreads like Tri-Klops and Zodac. Here's hoping one of the remaining mystery figures in 2009 is previously unproduced figure from what I've heard.
Hell, I might as well pay the rape price and pick up a King Grayskull or get one loose. :p
@michael Lovrine: Careful…I've been hearing nearly 80% of the King Grayskulls are broken RIGHT out of their packages.
Also, did you actually hear that one of the remaining '09 mystery figures is an unproduced figure? Where at? Did they say if it's MOTU, POP or NA?
i haven't heard of many breakages on grayskull… mine certainly feels just as solid as any of my other motuc.
let me just be thefiurst to say to those who don't like the he-ro design… thank you. you just made it easier for me to get him! i sure appreciate it. just remember, when you have second thoughts later, i won't be selling him for retail price. sorry!

I remember reading of a few broken ankles on King Grayskull.
@Mark: There's actually two KG's with broken ankles selling on ebay right now. I can't believe why anyone would buy one (unless they have an extra foot they detached from another grayskull or maybe he-man).
My next question for Mattel: When is Poe gonna get a "review" figure from Mattel?
