Roundup Review

Sadly, the editor of Fanmode has decided to stop compiling weekly toy reviews. I know from experience that this is a time-consuming task, so I certainly don’t blame him.

However, this means I have to decide what to do for PGPoA. I’m not inclined to write my own roundups because, again, it’s time-consuming. So there are basically three main options:

1.) I can continue to throw in reviews among the other news articles in the news aggregator on the sidebar (or post only reviews on the aggregator)

3.) I can create a second aggregator with just toy reviews

4.) I can see if some enthusiastic Poester is willing to pick up the slack and create a more in-depth roundup of reviews (like Fanmode’s) once or twice a week.

Frankly, the real question is: did any of you really find the roundups useful? They rarely had any comments, so I’m not sure how much you were interested in them.

  • I usually read a couple of 'em. I just don't post a lot of comments in general, though. It's a nice feature, but I honestly won't miss it much if it disappears.

I'll be happy to send you links to the reviews I do in the future, though, if you need to pad it out. :)

  • For some reason, I never used/looked at the Roundups….so I wouldn't mind if you did or didn't do them from now on. They do have some good info that I am sure some people liked though.

  • Being new to browsing the toy review sites, I found quite a few winners through the Review Roundup that I continue to check regularly. I could see where it would be extremely time consuming to put together and could certainly understand not continuing it, but it was useful to me, if not for individual reviews then to find new sites for content.

  • I believe that you should just do the reviews you want you know the important ones?

Like DCUC. and DCUC. And DCUC.

    :)

  • I was a fan of them, largely because my reviews got featured on there. It helped get people to my site to read my reviews, so I definitely liked the plug not only from Fanmode but your site as well.

  • I just never used it because I would have already looked at the review sites I like, and I wasn't interested in the others.

  • Half and half, sometimes useful for a cross-reference but sometimes an easy skim-over.

That wasn't much help was it?

  • I didn't really pay that much attention to them here… but that was because I had already seen them on Fanmode! I'm not sure they're the kind of thing I'd have commented on anyway, though; if I thought a review was cool I'd just comment on the reviewer's page.

Anyway, I did find them very helpful, and those two times my stuff showed up on them were very cool since it seems like nobody knows about SC. ;)

The Japanese review links were kinda meh for me, though. Those figures looked very cool, but I want to be able to read about them too! If I want to view nifty import toys, I'll just browse hlj.com… at least then I can get info in English (and potentially buy them if I like them enough).

  • I was definitely a fan and…with a little guidance…would be willing to offer my services on a weekly basis.

  • I won't miss it. I'd only check a review if it was something I'm interested. I really like the toy aggregator with random industry/toy news. A specifically for reviews would be nice

  • I'd read the reviews of toys I was interested in trading/buying or of older toys I wish I had owned to see if they would disappoint me now that I'm older. So they were useful to me at times but more often than not it'd just scan the titles/subjects being reviewed and read anywhere from half to maybe 1.

  • 1.) I can continue to throw in reviews among the other news articles in the news aggregator on the sidebar

I really liked the round-ups, but feel this is also good.
