DC Direct isn’t known for its SDCC Exclusives–I can’t remember a single one off the top of my head–but that’s gonna change this year.

IGN’s got the scoop.

  1. "And maybe NYCC would get bigger crowds if they had better exclusives." I somehow doubt that all the people go to SDCC based only on exclusives. It got big for a lot of reasons.

    Meh.

Pretty much given up on DC Direct now, the lack of articulation began to bug me, plus a lot of my older DC Direct figures appear to be disintegrating at the joints now.

    Shame.

Also, as someone who hails from the UK I really do feel like I'm getting kicked in the teeth when these damn exclusives come out. I wish the Bristol Comic Con would get an exclusive so we can put two fingers up and blow a raspberry to the lot of 'em!

    @americanhyena:

Faker was just available a month early and Mr Freeze was a repaint. Not that special to me.

And maybe NYCC would get bigger crowds if they had better exclusives. If they think good exclusives wouldn't draw bigger crowds, then that negates the need for exclusives in the first place.

bleah.. I really want the red, orange and blue hals… seems unlikely I'll get them

One thing that does sadden me is that…from what I can see, the lanterns are all just colored versions of the green lantern batteries, instead of being the appropriate sculpted batteries (which is odd since we've already seen yellow, red, and blue ones in the other Blackest Night figures).

@Scott — SDCC gets the attention because it by far draws the biggest crowd. And other conventions do get some pretty big exclusives. Weren't Faker and comic accurate deco Mr. Freeze both at the NYCC? (Not counting the nine billion G.I. Joe and Transformers exclusives that seem to come out at Joe Cons and Botcons).

@Thomas — I dunno, I feel like it's just the luck of the draw really. Convention exclusives have long been a part of collecting culture and I for one don't mind them that much. It adds to the thrill of the hunt for me.

  7. As I covered this on my site a couple days ago, the fact that these are only being sold one per day really makes it a pain to get. Cool set, but very complicated. Neat for attendees though.

  8. Thomas

I'm frustrated too because I found out that I could work things out to attend the convention, but by the time everything came together, all of the memberships were sold out. I understand there has to be a cap on attendance, but that means no Gleek and no "rainbow" Hal Jordans for me, unless I want to pay the exorbitant eBay prices, as others have mentioned.

Also, as others have indicated, fans are essentially "punished" for not attending. I'm sure it's a real thrill to be able to attend and get some cool things that are available only there, but let's face it, the vast majority of fans and collectors who would be interested in these items simply cannot attend the convention, and so we all lose out.

At the bare minimum, why declare that the SDCC is more important than the other cons? They could at least split the exclusives among the various cons.

  10. Replicant

I wish these weren't exclusives! I'm starting to hate exclusives! It's not like anyone that wants to go to a con can! There's always eBay but who wants to pay the ridiculous prices?

  11. J_Stone

Well, so far, Hal really has been part of the Green, Red, and Blue corps. As of GL #41, he's in deep trouble with the Orange Lantern, so I guess he could get consumed by the Orange light. No idea what would cause him to join the Yellow Corps though…

  12. RageTreb

I meant violent, not violet of course, but speaking of violet, what about the Violet, Indigo and Black Corps?

  13. Drunken Fist

They had some Batman-related exclusive last year, if memory serves. I actually like the look of these figures, but I don't buy DCD stuff anymore. (Well, aside from a couple of the 13" figures, anyway.) The way they're doing it is bound to piss off most of their dwindling fanbase, however.

  14. RageTreb

It's just not the Red Lantern Corps without blood spewing from your mouth– would that have been too violet, I wonder?

  15. Nicholai

That is pretty awesome. Yet another reason (Gleek!) to hate SDCC.

  16. Well, gay pride was this weekend!

  17. Frowny McBeard

I have to admit, that's pretty impressive. If I were a big GL fan, I'd be sweating what I'd have to pay for these.
