The Statue of Monkey Island

Oh man…if ever I might break my vow to buy only articulated action figures, this may be the thing to do it.

It’s a Monkey Island statue by Symbiote Studios, makers of the excellent Sam & Max statue.

I love me some Monkey Island, having played every game since the very first appearance of Guybrush Threepwood way back in 1990. As a kid who’d played a number of those Sierra “____ Quest” games and found myself stuck in the last stage of the game because I’d forgotten to pick up some stupid item in the first stage, or walking off a cliff accidentally and having to start over, The Secret of Monkey Island was a revelation. There was no pointless item usage (although the practice was parodied), no accidental deaths, and the finest sword combat system ever invented.

The aesthetic design of the statue appears to be based on the upcoming Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, due out for Xbox Live Arcade and PC this summer (in addition to the brand-new Tales of Monkey Island, due out for PC this summer as well and available for download off Telltale Games’ website).

What I wouldn’t give for full-fledged Monkey Island action figures…same goes for Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle. Anyway, this statue looks pretty neat, and if the price point comes in around the same as the Sam & Max statue, I may just have to pull the trigger on this one.

If you're going to break your rule Poe, this seems like the perfect thing to do it for. I'd rather have a Grim Fandango one, but Monkey Island is good too.

  2. That is damn cool…
