Happy Tri-Klops Day

P4017_TriClops_fullsizeimag

Unfortunately, today is not the end of the Red Screen of Doom for those of us who subscribed, as there are no doubt bonus figures, Battle Cats and stands in our future. But at least I’ll get September off.

  • I don't get to relax until January… but considering school hasn't started yet for me, I don't have anything better to do today.

  • *blink blink*

okay, okay! I'm up! I'm awake!

    *gets in line*

    stupid, early toy shopping…

  • Knock youselves out guys, I'm not picking him up. Don't know why, but I was never interested in him. Which is weird because I love villains. Probably because he's just a dude with a funky helmet, not a monster or something cool like that.

@RageTreb: Is your avatar that dragon Disney was using for Epcot or some other attraction like that?

  • Wow, finished my order 4 minutes early by my clock!

Yes, my avatar is Figment from Disney World.

  • Done in 2 minutes. Wow. I wonder how long 'ol Tri-Klops will take to sell out.

  • 1 ordered and all done by 2 mins before.

Wow, I really didn't dream He-ro day…..it all works….Matty has made it all the way to the eve of the 21st Centuary – well done.

  • Yeah, order complete, not one appearance of the red screen, color me surprised. No one likes Tri-Klops? This one toy I always wanted as a child but never had, so I am excited.

  • Wow! that's all I can say. In & out in 2 bloody minutes.

    Making progress, making progress.

  • That was funny. I actually lost track of time, and then thirty seconds ago I saw it was four minutes past 12. I went to MC and got through my order in about twenty seconds.

  • Just out of curiosity I went to matty, and got all the way to the submit screen in about ten seconds. I did not get, good luck to the rest, I hope it is this easy next month with Webstor, I will actually submit for that one.

  • Well if this was this easy, I'm hoping that means I won't have to sweat things once the subscription starts next month.

  • I got onto the site at 11:58 and got my order in and done without any problems or "red screen" of doom. I was very surprised to have Zero issues with the site. First time for everything I guess. Does anybody know if from this point on the figures will all come in the white outer shipping boxes? I loved getting He-Ro all crisp and minty…

  • I've just noticed something that worries me. On the order status page, my billing address is listed, but under shipping address it's just several blank lines ending with,

    ,AL

    US

Does that mean "shipping address is the same as billing address" or was there some kind of error? I ordered Hordak through MC and he came just fine however I don't remember if the shipping address was listed on the status page or not.

I really hope "AL" doesn't mean Alabama since I live in California!

  • @Magneto76: Yes, I believe all MOTUC figures will come in the white shipping boxes from now on.

@RageTreb: I can see the shipping address on my Order Status. I would check again, and if it's still wrong you might want to call CS.

  • Well, certainly glad people are having an easier time getting in their orders. Hopefully this will continue.

Sept should be an easy month, with only Webstor going on sale… however, Oct will be a pain. Even though the subs should kick in for Teela, there's still Zodak and Ray Stanz…

  • I would've been better off buying Tri-Klops. I just dropped $100 on the new edition of Space Hulk =(

  • @Poe: Thankfully it appears it's been fixed. I almost panicked there for a second.

  • Let's not forget that Tri-Klops is also the first figure with the newly-once again-increased production run. Couple that with subscriptions kicking in next month & life should be a little easier over at Matty.

  • Just a reminder all, you can reply directly to someone else's comment by clicking on the rounded arrow at the bottom of their comment.

You can even reply to multiple posts by clicking on the arrows, as I did above.

  • Imaaaaaaaaagination. Imaaaaaaaaagination. A dream can be a dream come true, With just that spark in me and you.

Did anyone see the South Park episode Imagination Land? It was pretty funny.

  • first, let me say, I'm a lifelong disney-phile and Figment is possibly my favorite thing about Disneyworld… so there's that… I'm actually shocked that in the commentary for the Imaginationland stuff on south park, they don't mention disney even once.. considering how close it all was (even the song was similar) you'd think they'd point out where the idea came from, if only to ridicule it

second.. tri-klops (and the Shazam set) were super easy to get, and I hope this keeps up.. I also get september off, but october will be a bit of a pain..

    I mostly need Ray..

I wonder if the DK movie masters stuff will sell…

  • @Scott: I forgot all about that. I just implemented a plugin. From now on, you'll have five minutes to edit your comment.

  • Hmmm… wouldn't work on AOL. When I tried editing on IE, it told me my comment was marked as spam and apparently erased it.

    Trying again.

Worked the 2nd time, though still not on AOL.

  • @Poe:

where does he get these wonderful toys?

sounds like things went pretty smoothly all the way w/ tri-klops' ordering process this month. it's about friggin time!

BTW, i have a suggestion for next month's matty Q&A poe… is there any way we can opt-out of the white cover box? cuz to be real, that is a complete waste for me, a minimum of one small sized white waxed box a month down the tubes, that is just going straight to the trash can… it's coated paper, i can't even recycle it! what a complete waste. i'm sure some right-minded MOCer is looking at that box and pleasuring himself vigorously right now, but seriously, for a huge chuck of motuc fans, we're ripping right through those boxes.

  • @Scott: I haven't used AOL in about twelve years, so I'm afraid I don't have any help to offer. And I have no idea why it would have marked your post as spam.

If everyone's having trouble with it, let me know and I can try a different plugin. This seems to be the one everyone uses, though.

  • Almost 4 hours later and he's still not sold out?!

    Where's the Trikey love?

  • @Dead Man Walking:

Yeah….for us late 20 something, early 30 something guys….when we were kids and went to Disneyworld, Figment was the best thing going. He was the highlight of my early Disney trips and obviously as well as many others.

It is kind of ashame that they have worked him out of so much of the stuff…becuase he was a much bigger deal back then.

  • 4:10 pm EST and he's still available. I'm not surprised, as I think we'll see he wasn't as popular as Webstor or Teela. I'm just glad I'm not interested in anything else in this line for a few months.

  • Tri-Klops just ain't that cool looking. He's kinda Zodak-y. Webstor is at least a spider guy with a cool backpack.

  • I just think its due to the fact that they got more of him. Ideally, the figures should be on sale for "two weeks" as Mattel originally wanted. They've been selling out so quickly thus far because they have not been able to keep up with demand, plus fans ordering at noon exactly. If you're a collector of the line, you're most likely to order in the first 24-48 hours, rather than waiting those two weeks, right?

I don't think Tri-Klops compares to Zodac in popularity. He's one of Skeletor's "main-four" baddies along with Beast-Man, Trap Jaw, and Mer-Man. Maybe as a character or visually he isn't as interesting as one of the aforementioned villains, but I've always thought he was cool on his own right. He also has the distinction of being Skeletor's only other human henchman besides Evil-Lyn.

I've always thought he was pretty cool. I never had any real big favorites besides Trap Jaw.

  • So here's a fun question to play with–besides those announced for release already, what original figures are left that can still be made with a fairly minimal amount of new tooling? (i.e. only new armor accessory, weapons, head, ect). No new hands, feet, torsos, ect.

  • I hope this guy doesn't sell out for a week or so. I spent too much money over the weekend, lol.

Have to give the bank account a few days to rest.

  • Tri-Klops was always one of my favorites. I think I'm a sucker for optic blasts cause I like Cyclops too… anyway since my birthday is coming up, I'm relying on others to get him. It's a little nerve racking, but at least he hasn't sold out yet.

  • Tri-Klops not cool looking? Come on, he's got a big rotating three-eyed doohickey on his head!

  • @americanhyena: Stinkor is obvious and Evil Lynn won't need new tooling after Teela. Depends on how they want to do Prince Adam I guess. If they sculpt clothes then it would take a lot more tooling. Fisto could be done with mostly armor and a new hand. I'm sure there are more.

  • @americanhyena:

Characters with the least retooling? Thats easy, Stinkor.

Next up I'd say Clamp Champ, Blade, and Ninjor (though, he's a serious D-list character).

Fisto and Jitsu are obvious easy choices, but both require newly tooled hands.

Mekaneck shouldn't require too much tooling either, although they'll have to figure out what they want to do for the extending neck feature.

With the Fisto/Clamp Champ and Mecaneck/Stinkors they can double up on armor.

I'm not even going to include Snake Men or The Horde, but here are what I've counted as the leftovers. I may be missing a few.

Whiplash, Clawful, Kobra Khan, Two-Bad, Spikor, Man-E-Faces, Ram-Man, Buzz Off

    Sy-Klone, Roboto, Snout Spout, Extendar

    Rio Blast, Sorceress, Gwildor

  • I haven't bought any of this line and I'm not that big a fan of MOTU but I would buy man-e-faces.

  • Mekaneck has about the easiest action feature to duplicate I think. Since this line already has removable heads, all they need to do is have either an alternate head with an extended neck OR one head and varous lengths of neck extensions (although I think the former is much more likely).

Yeah, Stinkor was the most obvious one I was thinking of too (and honestly, I'd love me some Stinkor).

Going by your list of who's left, I imagine there's not a tremendous amount of work to do on Buzz-Off. New torso and hands (plus the aforementioned head and weapons) but not nearly as extreme as some of the other characters would require in new tooling.

  • A lot of my favorites require special tooling (ie, most of the Horde). I really hope there's a plan to start making them. I mean, maybe it will require that MOTUC sells X amount of product before they can start making them, but I just hope the plan is there.

  • Also keep in mind Buzz-Off and Whiplash share the same torso and legs. Clawful shares the same legs as Skeletor (or Whiplash depending on what version of him you had) and shares one of Buzz-Off's arms.

With Trap Jaw's legs (and arms) now we have the makin's for Roboto and Man-E-Faces.

For Mekaneck, I would hope we'd get at least two or three neck extentions. Maybe each piece is about 1 inch and they can be stacked, or just have one long one (about 3-4 inches) and one about an inch or so long.

@Rage Treb: Perhaps they'll eventually alternate between figures that require a lot of new tooling and those that require minimum effort.

  • i had prob the easiest transaction ever at matty. under a min i would say.

i think it is because there is less of a draw for him and the fact they have produced more starting with this figure. it'd be great if he was available for a couple weeks.

  • @PrfktTear: Clawful is far better looking with the Buzz-Off/ Whiplash legs. That is a great idea for all the different neck extensions.

I got my Man-At-Arms the other day in the mail.

  • I know this is off topic, but what's the deal with the kiddie Dark Knight toys that Matty Collector has on their site?

  • @Mark: I forget which one I have off the top of my head, but I agree, I think Clawful looks better with the Whiplash/Buzz-Off legs. I really can't envision him with the MOTUC Skeletor feet.

  • I had the easiest time ordering Tri-Klops this morning. He was ordered in about 20 seconds with no red screen of death. He's still available too.

  • will there be this much of an increase of production with ghostbusters?

  • This does not bode well AT ALL for MOTUC… we might as well kiss this line goodbye… ;-)

  • Tri-Klops = Try-Flop!!! :D :p

Figment was actually created by Finger Lakes Puppet Design for Eastman Kodak in the early 80s. He was the mascot for the Kodak pavilion at Epcot.

  • I didn't even want this figure and now I feel compelled to buy him just because he's there.haha

  • @agaurdiandevil: Buy him. It's a sign from Jebus!

So…I'm surfing eBay and people are STILL listing him for ridiculous prices on there despite him still being available on the website. Some of the listings are even claiming that he's already sold out (in 45 minutes no less!)

And I'm kinda haphazardly messaging the sellers and threatening to report them to eBay for false advertising.

    Take that Scalpor! :-p

  • I just got my email this morning saying he has shipped! Is this possible? (I just paid for standard shipping). This has to be the fasted/easiest transaction I have ever had on mattycollector. Makes me wonder if I should not have gotten the subscription…

  • @Tekwych: Back in the '80s Figment was almost as popular as Mickey Mouse! I loved the World of Imagination ride. Probably one of my fondest memories of my first trip to Disney World. Its changed so much since then, some of the "cooler" (and more costly) rides have been given up for more kid friendly fare. Like the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride, which according to a fan site, is now a Winnie the Pooh's Play Land.

I have a bunch of Figment PVC figures. I was thinking of doing it for a show & tell sometime. I don't know if it was just that PVC figures were that popular back in the '80s, or if I just really liked 'em. I have a lot of other random ones from Muppets, Who Framed Roger Rabit, Mario, Garfield, etc.

  • you know, the funny thing about the more articulated motucs is, there are more pieces… which, when you break the figure down, you can share more parts… for example, pretty much everyone can share biceps and thighs and one of only maybe 2 or 3 torso pieces, 2 or 3 abs… making the whole line cheaper to produce.

for example, between fisto and he-man, all you need is new armor, a new head, and a new right forearm piece. clamp champ then reduces that to new forearm part and head.

  • @dayraven:

I thought Clamp Champ just had regular 'ol He-Man arms. I wonder if they'd give him a working "clamp" accessory.

I'm also curious, if they make Jitsu, will they give him Randor's armor (the original Randor and Jitsu shared the same armor shell piece).

  • Tri-Klops is doggin' it. I'm telling ya, it's the zazz factor. As in, he lacks any.

  • @PrfktTear:

oops, you are correct sir!! somehow, i remembered that claw as him lower arm… oh well… you're right, it was a hand held weapons.

  • @dayraven: yaay! i remember details of obscure '80s action figures!!! ;-) its easy to forget or confuse a lot of these guys. I was just handling my motu figues a couple of months ago, moving them from the cardboard box they've been storedfor the last 20 or so years to ziplog baggies and a plastic container.

I've got vintage Tri-Klops and Webstor on my desk!

  • It certainly would have been an interesting extra accessory. The more weapons the better! ;-) Plus if they're basing this line off of the orignal cross-sell art, it would have fit right in.

  • Best GF ever…

Cash has been a bit tight this week so I knew I probably wasn't going to get Tri-Klops off Matty. Figured I'd end up having to get him off Ebay but considering all the crap I've been buying lately (mountins of GI Joes, SDCC exclusives, etc) I figured I could deal with it.

But out of nowhere today my GF reveals she ordered Tri-Klops for me. Huzzah!

Now I won't have to pay extra for him on Ebay.

  • Supportive significant others are always a blessing in our hobby. Of course, my wife has filled our apartment to the brim with yarn for her knitting, so she really can't talk.

  • He's still listed on the front page as available, but Tri-Klops seems to have finally sold out.

  • Heeeey, Matty finally changed TriKlops' status on the front page to "Sold Out" today. Nice of him to notice.
