Odds ‘n Ends

Odds N Ends

Having some trouble getting my ducks in a row this morning, so let’s start with an Odds ‘n Ends.

  • As the entire world knows by now, Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment. Will Disney interfere with its everyday operations or will they leave well enough alone, as they’ve done with Pixar? Time will tell.
  • Personally, though, I think it’s obvious this merger is happening solely so Jesse Falcon can revive Legendary Comic Book Heroes and produce a Rocketeer figure. It’s so obvious.
  • I saw at TRU they’ve released 12″ versions of those crappy Pro-Bots figures. No accounting for taste, I guess.
  • Speaking of TRU, I actually came across a Deadshot and a Guardian at one over the weekend, believe it or not. Deadshot was the only figure I wanted from DCUC9 (review forthcoming). Suffice to say I was surprised and pleased to actually find a new DCUC figure in Massachusetts a mere month after they first showed up.
  • Question of the day: Which MOTU variants–from the original series, New Adventures or 2002–would you actually like to see in MOTUC? Aside from anything that’s already been announced, like BA He-Man and Skeletor. And don’t say Smash Blade He-Man–it’s not funny.

  • I should clarify–when I say variants, I mean figures like Thunder Punch He-Man or Battle Sound Skeletor.

  • This is actually the first I'm hearing about the Marvel/Disney thing. Now I can finally get that Dr. Doom/Pete team-up I've always dreamed of.

Does Terror Claws Skeletor count as a variant? If so, I vote for that. Or Hurricane Hordak.

  • to be honest, i'm totally burnt out on he-man and skeletor redecos… i'm passing on the BA guys and will pass on all other permutations too. i'm down for most other characters in the franchise, and i'd be down for a slew of new guys too, but i simply won't invest 28.70 on disco ninja rachel ray skeletor or milk, milk, lemonade, round the corner fudge gets made he-man. the gimmicks were only vaugely cool when i was 8… i'm 32. i'd much rather get two-bad or marzo or calix.

  • and those probots may not be great, but i make they'd make handy custom fodder.

  • @dayraven: I'd agree, except they also feel cheap and crappy in your hands. The joints are loose and floppy, and weirdly designed, too.

  • Fox Sports Robot superior. Pro-Bots inferior.

I am excited about Battle Armor He-Man, if they offer up a Battle Armor Skeletor, I may pass on that one. I liked the Dragon Spray Skeletor, maybe because (I think) it was the only Skeletor I got as a kid that was new and not from a yard sale or the second hand toy store in town.

I for one would LOVE to see another disco Skeletor! ;-)

  • @Poe

You forgot to mention the ominous premonition we saw at TRU. 4 Guardians hanging on the pegs by themselves. dun dun DUN.

  • Couldn't agree more, Poe. Sooo obvious.

Jesse Falcon is back, & he'll give us the obvious Rocketeer, but he'll also throw in Nexus, Solar, Magnus, The Green Lama & Red Sonja. The BAF will be V.I.N.C.E.N.T.

In my excitement over Jesse Falcon now being able to do whatever the hell he wants, I forgot to say that I want a New Adventures He-Man. I know, I know, but there's just something about him…

  • WOW… How did I miss that Disney was buying Marvel?

Will that effect the day to day? I suspect it could hurt them a bit in the long run, much like WB owning DC occasionally gets things locked up in the many layers of the WB company.

Marvel comics is kinda violent for Disney isn't it? Oh well, at least with Disney at the helm you know it's safe and not going anywhere.

    I need a cool Rocketeer figure that's not 12 inches and $200…

I want New Adventures He-Man & Skeletor as I owned them as a kid and they rocked. I'd also like movie versions of both.

  • I'd love both NA Skeletors, but my favorite was the "Disk of Doom" Skeletor, the one where he has the Skull face armor on his chest/torso. I always wanted him as a kid, but alas, never got 'em.

  • @Poe: well, the little one did… i don't know how the big ones will fare (they HAVE to be made better, simply due to the increase in mass, right?)

but yes, they are in way comparable to the cleatus fig… he PWNED!!

  • As a joke, I would have normally said Wonder Bread He-Man. D'oh!

I think the idea of a NA He-Man or Skeletor would be phenomenal. The NA line is extremely underrated as a toy line.

I'd like to see how MOTUC would approach a Prince Adam figure.

  • @PrfktTear

There were at least three NA Skeletors (I know 'cause I had 'em). The third was also in the armor with the skull on his chest, but had NO HEAD COVERING! It was so scandalous that I couldn't say no. (He had a tiara thing and stringy black hair.)

Sign me up for wanting to see some NA love in the line, if only to see how it'd mesh with the vintageyness. That dragon armor Skeletor could be cool, too, as it wouldn't really need a working gimmick to make sense, unlike, say, Thunder Punch He-Man. (Who would neither punch nor thunder.)

  • Blech, I don't think I could stomach King Randor, Princess Adora and Prince Adam in one year. Don't even joke about that.

  • So Disney buys Marvel, but the rage is still fresh to rag on MOTUC and DCUC like there's no tomorrow? RIIIGHT!
