Paul’s Peg > Toy Hunt: DC and Marvel Finds

I have a terrible time finding anything I want at retail. I’m not sure if it’s my luck or what, but if there’s a toy I want I’m most likely going to have to work very hard at trying to get it. This last weekend was a bit strange, in the fact that I managed to find a bunch of stuff I wanted. I’m not here to brag about finding toys that everyone else has, but to drop some of my thoughts on my plunder. Now, let’s do this!

DC Universe Classics Wave 9: I was both shocked and amazed that I managed to not see pegs full of Captain Cold at my local Target, but instead I managed to find most of the Wave 9 figures. I picked up a Black Canary for my wife and a Deadshot for me. I’ve heard some complaints about Black Canary, but my wife is enamored with the figure, so I guess that’s a good thing. She was really impressed with the realistic fishnet stockings. I was too, but in a different way…. I got the Deadshot primarily because I could, though he is a neat looking figure despite the fact I’m not really attached to the character.

Marvel Secret Wars 2 Packs: I finally have found the second series of these things after weeks of looking. They turned up in a Wal-Mart in a very urban area which had the most screwed up toy section I’d ever seen. There was tons of clearance put in random places and lots of toys that seemed to shelved randomly. The packs themselves about as cool as I hoped. The Iron Man is more yellow than the single carded version, which is exactly what I wanted and the Hulk is a great variation even if I have two Hulks now. If Hasbro keeps making figures like this, then I’ll be into this line for a while to come.

I’m loving the Marvel Universe line. I cherry pick from it, but the next wave of comic packs (wave 3) sounds awesome. I can’t wait to see pictures of these! I didn’t grab anything from wave 1 (too many repaints) but from wave 2 I have grabbed the Magneto/Spider-Man black pack and the Classic Iron Man/Spider-Woman pack.

I finally found a green arrow and black canary on two visits to the same target last week. Was pretty great.
Though I’m still pissed that I missed out on a Gentleman Ghost a few weeks prior. I had gone everyday for a week, decided to not go out on the weekend. Monday after work two vigilantes were left on the shelves. UGHGUHGHGHUHG.

Congrats. . . my luck (when it comes to hunting) seems to be limited to TRU and comics. I’ve managed to find every TRU Minimates exclusive I’ve looked for except the newer Warpath/Angel pack.

@Paul: Sir Paul, I’m wondering if you seen the Skrull Big Guy 2-pack and the Giant Man 2-pack I think one has Bucky Cap’n and the other has another ironman, If you haven’t I can get it for you.
Edit: So I looked on Ebay and there running for 100, for both. I’m wondering how much to begin with since i didnt bother to check. And the Giant man I found was red and blue not yellow…Variant?

I saw the skrull pack and I passed, but uh didn’t realize it was going for so much. I would have picked it up for someone if I’d known.

I’ve seen the normal MU two-packs a lot, but I don’t buy MU. I haven’t seen a new DCUC figure at a local Target/Walmart since I found the 5-pack at Walmart more than a month ago. My local DCUC pegs are stuffed with Cyborg and leftovers from wave 4 or 6.

If I’d known you were having trouble finding the second series of Secret Wars packs, I could have grabbed them for you. They’re rather plentiful here.
As for Black Canary, I think the fishnets do look good, but the trade off is that you end up with a figure of one of the best female hand to hand fighters in the DCU who can’t be posed doing a proper kick.

Yeah, that’s not really a problem with the wife, considering she’s not going to be actually playing with her or posing her in any other stance than the one in the picture.

@Paul: Well, I prefer to have my figures in action poses, so it bothers me.

@Nik – I don’t think you missed out on Gentleman Ghost. I had a similar experience, where I went to TRU, and found a Vigilante along with some wave 9. I tweeted about it, and @OAFE told me that there have been reported instances of Vigilante being shipped along with wave 9 for some reason. So, unless you run across Mr. Terrific or Commander Steel, you probably are experiencing this weird anomaly, and haven’t missed out on the other wave 8 figures.

@Thomas B:
If that’s true then they screwed up. All the previous pics I saw indicated that was Pym’s Goliath outfit from around Avengers 26 (which was, in fact, yellow and blue) and not his Giant Man outfit from Avengers 2-16. Did it look like he was wearing some kind of goggles, or were his eyes exposed?
