Ask Mattel Answers for November 1

1.) Hayestronaut asks: With the news of a potential Major Matt Mason film and the development of vintage collector-style lines such as DC’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes, is there any chance of seeing a new Matt Mason collector line?
This is something we are reviewing. Only time will tell!
2.) Tom-Tom asks: Regarding DCUC 10: Mattel has said that Wal-Mart ordered more figures than in wave 5. However, many collectors are still having troubles, claiming it to be worse than wave 5. What is Mattel’s view of the situation?
Sorry, I cannot discuss particulars on retail distribution! That is up to each retailer not Mattel.
3.) PrfktTear asks: How long will Wave 10 be shipping to Wal-Mart?
Until the entire order is shipped.
4.) Dayraven asks: Why are some DCUC figures and accessories made of nice sturdy hard plastic, while others seem to be made of a much softer plastic grade?
Some figures have softer areas to accommodate increased articulation or stylized capes or tunics which need softer plastic.
5.) Barbecue17 asks: You have a policy of not discussing unannounced product, but you also have mentioned that once a figure has been announced there is little to no time for fan input. Is there any point in the life of a figure that fans have the ability to influence some aspect of a figure?
We listen very carefully to fan suggestions when reviewing new candidates for toy lines. If there is a figure you really want, post about it online or talk to us at conventions. Many times the figures with more online chatter wind up being produced sooner in the line.

“Many times the figures with more online chatter wind up being produced sooner in the line.”
So we need to start talking about a Battle Bones carrying case for the new MOTUC line. The 1980s BB just doesn’t fit these new figures. Either that, or we need to start talking about a DCUC Batmobile.

I suspect if Matt Mason gets a movie, a toyline will come forward. Doubt it’ll be a “collector” line though.

I’m not sure who did the editing on Dayraven’s question, but the point was totally lost. He was asking about floppy weapons and rock hard capes.

@Heli: Yeah, that’s my fault. I thought the question was more straightforward than it was, evidently.

oh well just re-ask it again.
i think this round of answers were meh compared to the more stellar outing last time
however, i am not digging the questions asked this round either since it seems many of them are directed around the same topic of distro which we know can’t/won’t be answered fully

@Thomas B: I’ve already submitted the questions for the next round, but it’s quite possible someone else asked in one of the various other rounds.

Is the exclamation point present in answer 2 yours or Mattys, Poe? He’s getting a wee bit testy.

Well, I guess that was obvious, wasn’t it? Why would they answer it that way when they went to the effort to tell DCUC fans on Facebook not to panic because wave 10 has barely shipped? It’s like Matty has a dual personality as a fireman and arsonist.

My favorite was this one, not from this site, but I saw the same thing at two other sites:
“4. Noisy asks: We’ve just wrapped up our Wave 9 and Wave 10 reviews and there are some great figures in those waves, but there was a consistent problem with the up/down movement of the head articulation – it’s gone. I believe it’s one of the most expressive joints on the figure and the recent releases are suffering it’s loss. Is this something Mattel has been working on and, if so, when can we expect future waves to return to the better articulated heads of the earlier figures?
“Up and down joints will be added when appropriate for the figure. Much as Green Arrow received extra joints for his wrists to hold his bow.”
Ok, so suddenly Mattel has decided that “up and down” movement on the head joints is only SOMETIMES appropriate? 8 waves of usually great head mobility, but now it’s no longer APPROPRIATE? Whose responsible this? What kind of bullshit answer is that? How can they be so deliberately obtuse? Head movement has nothing to do with Green Arrows wrists! WTF!!!

@The Flash III: Yeah, so basically “when they run out” but we don’t know how much there is, other than alledgedly more than Wave 5. I’m not too upset, I was fortunate enough to find the wave once, but I’m still keeping an eye out for myself and a couple others.

ah.. more non answers from mattel.. I’d say what’s the point, but then they’d take even this away from us. it’s like we are feeding these questions into a machine that generates answers based on buzz words, with complete disregard for the actual meaning of the question…
these are being answered by lawyers, not real people… damn the corporate machine.. we’re toy geeks who want our toys.. we are NOT selling your secrets to the pentagon.. or worse.. hasbro! sheesh
ok, sorry.. but the more I read these things, the more I want to punch that mascot in his big plastic head.

So…this should probably go in the trade thread in the forum but I figure it’s got a better chance of being seen here :-p
My friend in Pennsylvania found Wave 10 except for Man-Bat. I had him buy me two full sets otherwise (except for Beast Boy, who they only had one of) plus a third Joker. The complete set is for me and the Beast Boyless one is tentatively reserved for a friend but that third Joker is now reserved for whoever can find me that Man-Bat. That is all. :-p
P.S. Is it bad that I don’t even read the Matty responses anymore unless Poe highlights a particularly interesting point?

@Poe:
could we just get a a block on any questions dealing with distribution or wave 10 for that matter since their answer will always just either point us back to contacting Wal-Mart or will tell us they can’t discuss numbers.
otherwise overall good questions are usually asked. it just seems we won’t ever get a straight answer from them so i would rather we spend energy on attainable goals .

@Heli: thanks for noticing dude… but apparently, we all got exactly the nature of the question i was asking… matty was the only one who didn’t seem to understand… so i suspect that was an infamous matty dodge rather than a real attempt to answer the question.

Thanks for asking my question Poe!
No thanks to Matty for not answering it or not understanding it. They answered a question, but I’m not sure it was the one I asked.
My intention was to get some clarity on what Mattel intends for these sessions. They always tell that they can’t talk about figures that haven’t been announced but then when they announce them they claim that the figures are too far along in production to make any changes.
And in regards to the question Mattel answered I have 2 words. Martian Manhunter.
Motorthing

Yeah, I want a Martian Manhunter too, so lets talk about nothing else for 6 months as “Matty” suggests then they will have to make one. Lets make all three questions about MM too, to ram the point home – it’s not like that will be any more wasted than the answers to the above all were anyway…..
Barbecue17

Agreed. That would be hilarious if each site next time made all their questions about the same character. One site Martian Manhunter, one site Jim Gordan, etc..
