Odds ‘n Ends > Spyeye Edition

  • Apologies for the lack of a real update today–I’ve got two or three major updates in the queue, but finding the time to get them done is proving difficult. It does not, however, have anything to do with my increasingly unhealthy addiction to Dragon Age.
  • In case you missed his column this weekend, check out the newest contributor, the enigmatic Doc Thomas. In his first column, the good doctor examines action figure scale so deeply you’ll need to drink some MiraLax first.
  • Optikk review is coming, but the short version is, he’s pretty cool. What I really like about him, though, is the way Mattel and the Horsemen incorporated the New Adventures design into the MOTUC style.
  • I’m working on my review, but Spy Monkey Creations’ new shields are now available.
  • For the record, I was apparently wrong about the relative scarcity of the 3¾” Twitch, since no less than four people found him within two days of writing that post. I haven’t seen him myself, though.
  • One thing I’ve been remiss in reporting on are the two new Transformers/G.I. Joe cartoons that are being developed. Do people care about those? Do you want coverage? Speaking of, would people like me to get in on the various Hasbro Q&As? I’ve been skipping them solely because they lie outside my own interests, but if people want to submit questions for me to in turn submit, I’d be fine with that.

I've got some Star Wars questions if you do decide to submit.

  2. I am always interested in new Transformers media as it will always be my favorite fictional property. I like the coverage you give already to other lines and do not see a need for things you yourself are not hot on as I check the page daily anyway. 🙂

I was a huge GI Joe 25Th dork…. I lost my taste foe all things Joe after ROC hit theaters though. I'll give the new cartoon a chance but I don't have high hopes. If you don't spend allot of time on it Poe it won't hurt my feelings.

  4. I'm mostly a Joe collector as well, but Hasbro's Q&As are, uh, less than informative. There's even a really narrow and specific set of rules for what kinds of questions can be asked (deco choices yes, future character releases no, never) and half the time the Q&As turn out to be contradictory; I mean at various points we were told no on any Tiger Force or Python Patrol figures (nonsense), no on Snow Serpents (seeing its 4th release in PoC) and then yes on Crazylegs, SAW-Viper and Steel Brigade, only to be told "no" on them again. You can never know what's true and what isn't, probably not due to actual duplicity on Hasbro's part, but just the seemingly ever-shifting status of the line. Makes the Q&As kind of pointless.

  5. I want Hasbro to bring back Air Raiders, fuck batteries I say!

I just saw a Twitch and other 3 3/4" Toy Story figs at Target, too. Dang, they are pricey! 11 bucks is almost twice what they're worth, in my estimation.

  7. Optikk is really neat. I enjoy the NA series, I watched it as a kid, and going through it again with adult eyes I gained a new appreciation for it, its sort of like Star Trek's equivalent of DS9 compared to TNG. I knew I'd like the figure, but I wasn't sure how they'd pull it off. I think this is a strong indication as to how they'll handle Man-E-Faces.

I love cartoons! I wasn't sure what to think about the new Transformers show, but it seems like its in good hands. The fact that Cullen and Welker are involved clinches the deal for me. As far as coverage, between TFW2005, Seibertron, and TFormers.com, amongst others there are plenty of news coverage sites, but maybe some thoughtful Q&A might be nice. If I have any burning questions I'll be sure to send 'em over.

G.I. Joe is pretty much my primary area of collecting, but the Hasbro Q&A's are now more of a joke than the Mattel ones, which really aren't always too bad.

Renegades does sound quite awesome. After over half a year without new Joe product, I'm getting antsy for the Pursuit of Cobra stuff and the Resolute boxed set.

  9. The Shield of Deliverance because something's got to protect that purdy mouth!

Not terribly interested in Joes or cartoons. Might be nice to know what Hasbro are up to.

Would be good to see if they're getting it right where Mattel are getting it wrong…
