Ask Mattel > Answers for July 15 [Roundup added]

1.) Damien asks: How committed is Mattel to providing plenty of new sculpts in the WWE line? There already seems to be a growing issue, especially in the BASICS line, with characters getting sculpts way too muscular for them. Fans are getting concerned that Mattel will continue the JAKKS trend of utilizing completely incorrect body types over and over again to reduce costs.

Our goal for the collector lines is to continue to pursue real ”Superstar Scale.” We do this by literally had every Superstars go through a digital body scan to capture their physical attributes and visible body markings, which ensures characters like Big Show is physically larger than Rey Mysterio, just like in real life. There will be lots of new sculpts to ensure this scale accuracy.

2.) Snakeeyes22 asks: With so many standard style MOTUC figures done, how will you go about creating the vintage characters who looked so unique and whose actions were essential to the character, like Roboto and Modulok? I’d gladly and patiently accept a smaller number of these characters that may demand more tooling than usual per year rather than sacrificing vital traits.

Roboto and Modulok would clearly take more uniquely tool’d parts compared to other vintage characters like He-Man and Man-At-Arms who can share parts. Nothing to announce now, but we will do our best to create new parts when needed.

3.) Gambit320 asks: Is there a chance we’ll see more than just the Lion Voltron? Are previously toy-only robots like Gladiator and Dinosaur Voltron possible or do they have rights issues preventing them from being made?

At this time it is way too early to comment on Voltron specifics. We are committed to doing both kid and collector lines.

4.) sammybj asks: Are you going to re-release DCUC waves 2, 3 and 8? Because there is a whole lot of people that want those waves.

No plans to announce right now, but with the success of Wave 5 we are looking into other waves to possibly re-release.

5.) captainzero asks: Any chance of the Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl being put back on the schedule?

Those characters, despite being in a few retailer lists, never made it past the planning stage. We don’t have plans for them now, but it doesn’t mean we can’t get to them down the line.

  1. Really the only WWE basic that's too jacked is Triple H. Maybe R-Truth too. Everybody else seems fine.

  2. BJJer

    There will be plenty of GG…just like there are plenty of Metallo's left arm available right now.

  3. Scott

    @BJJer:

    Rarer in comparison to the others, sure, but it would be more like there are plenty of GGs, and way too many of everyone else (except maybe the Parademons).

  4. BJJer

    If they rerelease wave 8 people are going to pay over a $100(plus shipping) to get GG anyway. With the other wave 8 figures easily available people will only take out GG (and Parademons) and sell the rest and GG will STILL be rare. Not even taking into consideration the people that wont buy the whole wave just for one figure. I dont think it will work.

    @Poe:

    Not that it effects whether or not there will be a WW/She-Ra 2-pack, but Matty really needs to learn to read and write.

    "Are there any plans on releasing She-Ra's shield in a silver color to match Adora's sword, like in an upcoming Weapons Pak perhaps?

    Yes, we do have plans for a duel tone She-Ra sword. Just how it will be released is still to be announced."

    First of all, the question was about her SHIELD, not her sword. Secondly, She-Ra's sword already is duAl toned. I assume they meant Adora's.

    If we do get the sword in a 2-pack, I'll probably give the sword to my current She-Ra and throw the new one in the closet.

    @Poe

    Thanks for using my question again!

    I agree on She-Ra, even before reading the Q & A. As the star of her own cartoon, she's perfect for the "MOTU awareness" gameplan behind the TRU sets. Excluding a head is a very simple way to make the Matty version retain value as they say. Wonder Woman would be great for those who missed her and for attracing new fans.

  7. PrfktTear

    @Feng: What about all of the people who were ROBBED of the chance to get Commander Steel? 😉

  8. The Flash III

    Glad to see they're at least thinking about doing some Flash rogues.

    They claim to be behind on GL, WW, and Aquaman rogues though. Well, GL is getting it's own line and I couldn't name 5 good villains of Wonder Woman or Aquaman that haven't been made…or at all, really.

  9. Poe

    After reading the She-Ra sword question in the MOTUC Figures Q&A, I'm calling it: Wonder Woman vs. She-Ra DC vs. MOTU 2-pack.

  10. Brainlock

    YES! Somebody else remembers there was a Gladiator Voltron!!!
    I’m NOT (that) INSANE!!!

    altho, Dinosaur Voltron?? wtf?

    DCUC – I hope they re-do w8, or at least re-release Giganta so we can finish her! I also missed out on w13, as I didn’t get paid until tonight/this morning/whatever.
    Barely saw w11 here, and no sign of w12, yet.

  11. Gambit320

    @Brainlock: Dinosaur Voltron was from the 90s toyline. There was also a Dragon Voltron and a Stealth Voltron in that line.

    Wave 13 selling out so fast was kind of a shock. I'm guess they significantly cut down on the numbers up for sale.

  12. captainzero

    Thanks for adding my question about the Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

    Darn it!! It seems a ways off.

  13. Dlia

    Success for Wave 13 today too. Or so one would hope. 😛

  14. dayraven

    boy, they skipped right over a genuine response to damien's question, didn't they?

  15. Fengschwing

    So, Wave 5 was a success. Hopefully there is a glimmer of hope for those still waiting for Gentleman Ghost. I seriously hope Mattel don't force folks to buy an entire wave just to get him though…
