Happy Orko Day!

Mattel’s big post-SDCC sale begins today at noon. How fast will Orko and Plastic Man sell out? How about Mo-Larr? Guesses? Here are mine:

  • Orko: less than 10 minutes
  • Plastic Man: 10-15 minutes
  • Mo-Larr: 2-3 hours

I’m not as sure about Starro, particularly because I think he loses a lot of his appeal without the mini-Starros.

  • Need me an Orko… Might get plastic man too…… i dunno…. while I know it would be bad for the server, I wish regular stuff was out too, not looking forward to double shipping when Ray comes out.

  • All I will be getting is Plas. I'd love the Starro pack, but $50 is kind of steep for DCIH.

    I think Starro will sell out before Mo-Larr, though.

  • I think it'll be quite the mad rush for Orko and Plastic Man. I've gone back and forth on Starro, and I'm still not sure if I'm going to pick him up. The packaging is awesome, but the price is steep.

  • Oy…there's WSOD ten minutes out.

    I'm thinking at least fifteen minutes for Orko. They have to realize the sheer amount of people that want him.

    Even people that got the clear one at Con (like me) want the regular version. So there's probably record demand for this one figure. They'd have to be really off their ball to do it in low numbers.

    Fortunately that's all I'm out for today. Picked up everything else I wanted in SD.

    Poe, if you've got the money to spare, I highly recommend Starro even without the spores. He's nice and big and heavy and looks pretty good with the build a figures. (I chucked the Infinite Heroes he came with in corner).

    Can anyone else verify the back door order page still working last month?

  • There was a delay, but my order for 1 orko and 1 plas seems to have been completed. just waiting for email.

  • Backdoor only shows Starro, Lotso, and Mater as in stock. Meanwhile, front door is still refreshing endlessly.

  • Got my Orko. However, the WSOD hasen't been that annoying for quite some months.

    Mo-Larr is the first figure, I won't buy from the MOTUC line. Single carded for $20.- with a RC DVD included? – Maybe. But for 40.-$ with a Skeletor redeco I definitely don't need? – No way.

  • Nik's page seems to have worked. I got Plas and Orko and have an order #, although no confirmation email yet. Wish I couldve gotten Starro too, but he's just not in the budget.

  • Snagged two Orkos but only to make sure that the first order went through. Damn website! I did the same for Marzo last week, with a small hope that he'd be valuable for trades. Unfortunately, Marzo turned out to not be so popular. Hopefully Orko will prove more wanted!

  • I went ahead and checked out at the backdoor site, and have my order number. Meanwhile the front page is still refreshing… I have an order number and an invoice, so hopefully I'm in the clear!

    He's in my cart, and yet endlessly refreshing. Matty assures me this is a normal function of traffic management and that everything is ok…

  • Confirmation just arrived so it seems like the backdoor site worked. Wish I'd known about this for Mossman…and Trapjaw…and Evil Lyn…and She Ra….and Battle Cat…and Keldor…

  • @presidentjuggernaut: Yeah, just ignore that. They're too lazy to fix the loophole, so they just stuck a pop up on the page. Still works. I got a email confirmation today. Got my Venkman last month no prob.

  • 35 minutes and three browsers later (Firefox, IE, and Chrome) I was able to get in, order, and pay for a pair of Orko's.

    Why in the name of Hades does Matty put EVERYTHING on one day?!! Seriously– DC-related should be one day and MoTU the next.

  • I just got my Orko, thought for sure I would miss out since I logged in at 11:15, but order was complete at 11:18. Whew!

  • With three different browsers and my droid all trying to break in to Matty, I was finally successful with Internet Explorer. It was like a race: Firefox got in first, then WSOD; IE in second, but refreshed faster. Droid X in third, but first to billing page, then WSOD. IE pulls it out in the end.

    What I did notice, however, was that I was unable to log in on my first three attempts across devices; DR kept telling me my email was invalid. Then magically it worked. I wonder if I'll be the only one. . .

  • After 16 minutes worth of the WSoD, I tried the backdoor page as well, got my order in (though I too have yet to get a confirmation e-mail).

    Meanwhile the main Matty site is still refreshing.

  • Barely got through! Got my Orko and Mo-Larr. Now I'm ready to fear November… I want my mini Scott.

  • That was terrible! I logged in at 9:57 and got WSOD until I got to the order screen at 10:08. After adding Plas to my cart, the screen refreshed/moved everything on the screen every five seconds while I'm trying to enter my login–if you didn't hit submit after 2 resets of the screen, you had to start over! Hit submit at 10:10, then got WSOD until 10:19, just so I could pay.

    Glad I got my figure, but the whole setup is bulls*&t.

  • After 40 minutes of WSoD, I caved in and tried the "backdoor" site and got my order in (Orko and Plas). I have yet to get a confirmation e-mail, though.

  • so i have been on the wsod for 40 minutes. I logged in around 8 min before the sale time.

    how the hell do people get orders placed even before i am able to see a page? crazy….so much for the 'line' people are supposedly put into when they log in.

  • For about 20 minutes now, the WSOD has disappeard. Should be easy to place your orders now. And Orko is still available. Wow.

    I have to think they made a TON of regular Orkos. It's not a variant figure like Keldor and there's not a subscriber base to subtract from the number that went on sale on the website.

    So…despite the crazy WSOD's…I'd say Matty handled this one right.

  • So I got my order through finally circa 11:30. What I did though was, after reading a comment here, I opened a second browser in Internet Explorer and that one went through. I had to still wait through 10 minutes of WSOD, but IE did work eventually. Meanwhile my original Firefox window is still endlessly refreshing and has been for 45 minutes. EDIT while typing: my original Firefox window just went through and still shows everything in stock.

  • I got Orko in my cart, but I've been stuck on the WSOD for about 20 minutes now, this is getting real old.

  • Decided to take an afternoon nap (working nights tonight) totally got the time zones wrong as it turned out.

    Logged straight in, no problems and ordered Plas like I was getting him on Amazon.

    No problems at all.

    Just waiting for my email now.

    Try the refresh button. The whole FirstComeFirstServed-Refresh idea never worked for me. I kept refreshing and came through. Try it with a second tab or browser.

  • @dwaltrip: No problem dude. Now of course, we have to wait till we see a shipping notice to make sure. Nothing is set with Matty until the product actually ships.

  • I would have bet Plas would survive this long, but not Orko. It still makes sense why he's still available: no subscription base, increased production number, bottleneck of orders submitted, etc.

  • I don't know if it's a UK thing but the site is working fine for me. Still seems to be Orko's available for them's that wants 'em.

  • Y'know the funny thing is that Orko was kinda anti-climactic for me since I have the SDCC one.

    Whiplash though…I consider him one of Skeletor's big six (and the Evil Warriors are my favorite faction) and since he's the last one…

    I'm gonna be freaking out come the 16th big time.

  • Got my confirmation (normal method). I really wonder how many Orkos they made. I'm surprised things are still available.

  • well i got my confirmation email. the backdoor seems to have worked like a charm. now we wait for the shipping confirmation sometime later this week.

    however, i have an order number and when dealing with the matty customer service reps in the past, the confirmation number is gold.

  • Whew. Bruised, bloodied, battered…but not beaten. I managed to get my Orko and Skelly/Molar set. This was as bad as last month.

  • I got in fine at 15 after, and again now at 52 after (only a few minutes of the refreshing white screen. Orko's still available, so I dunno why anyone is complaining. Matty/DR seem to be handling this sale quite well.

    That's really strange, though. Noone of the German MotU fan community had any problems with the WSOD 20 minutes after the items were available. (At least as far as I can tell from forum postings.)In the UK it seems to be the same. Why should US citizens or others still have problems then? Doesn't make much sense to me. But then again, what on Matty sale days does?

    Now Orko's sold out.

  • i can't believe everything is still available as of 1 hr in… methinks something was up w/ the stock for today.

    twice i had fully loaded screens kick me out back to the WSOD… that's going to need some explaining! this god damned company and their backwater webhosts… what a bunch of CRAP!!

  • Finally got one, geez. I don't even want that little magical troll, I just want Prince Adam.

    I've realized though, it's not the sheer stupidity of the website that bothers me, because I can deal with the irritation when I end up with what I was after, but what drives me up the wall is when you sit through all the WSOD crap and you end up empty-handed. The aggravation quickly fades when I actually manage to make it to checkout with the item in question.

  • It is now 1:02 and I finally got an order through after an hour and a half. Some malfunction made matty keep refreshing the order page as I was putting in my "1"s. I am beyond pissed off and nearly in tears from rage over GD toys. It doesnt even say theyre sold out yet, but Orko disnt show up on my order page, then Plastic Man was unavailablen once I got to the final page. So Mo-Larr is my shitty bronze medal. I left work for this and I'm going to get a lot of shit once I get back there. I've never been so insulted from making any purchase in my life.

    Skeletor's big six (for me anyway) is Evil-Lyn, Tri-Klops, Trap-Jaw, Beast-Man, Mer-Man, Whiplash.

    That's how I have them displayed on my shelf too. Whiplash (or Kronis until he gets there), Mer-Man, Beast-Man, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Tri-Klops, Trapjaw (the three that are represntatives of other races on one side, the three humanoid ones on the other).

    Granted, if I had a bigger shelf, I'd be happy to add Klawful, Two-Bad, and Stinkor to the lot. But since we know we're not getting any more Evil Warriors for at least another half a year, I'm happy with it as it is :-)

    Even if he wasn't a member of the EW I'd still be all over Whiplash just for the amount of new tooling on him.

  • And now that Orko & Plastic Man are gone, I can actually get to the 'main' Matty page.

    I really don't know how the Matty "regulars" put up with this #&@^ every month.

  • I was able to get Orko, Plas, and Molar through the backdoor link provided (thanks Nik!) It took about an hour but I finally got a confirmation email. I find it hilarious that Matty didn't want to bother plugging this loophole, so they just put up a BS warning that you aren't on their site. Well then where are we Matty?

    I did try to go the normal route but like Dayraven, I was getting kicked over and over again from a fully loaded page to the WSOD. I get that Matty want hype on this line, but this is just getting completely ridiculous

  • Can't believe how easy the whole thing was today. Also, Plas cost me only a QUID more than buying a regular DCUC figure in a shop up town, even with the postage and packing.

    Go figure.

  • I think since I was using a mobile device, I kept getting booted back to the WSOD on favor of other traffic as I was making my selections. I guess if enough people got stuff, then maybe ebay prices wont be awful, but I already wasted an hour and a half of being paid at work. It's aggravating since things seem like they went smoothly.

  • Much more WSOD than usual but the old lady secured Plas and Orko at about 20 minutes after. I was planning and getting Molarr right up to this morning and I just decided that 40 beans was too steep for a non-canon figure from a ho-hum skit on RC and Skull Head with a "missing tooth".

    I really wanted Starro to go with my DCUC too but even though the packaging is awesome, I have no use for DCIH and 50 bucks is pricey for essentially a BAF Starro. No mini spores either.

  • Once again comments falling off the page on sale day. Think they'll reissue Adam/Orko separately in 2 years like the did with Grayskull? We could see He-Ro again next year as a quarterly bonus figure with new tooling and this is just speculation, not fact.

    SDCC 2011 will probably be a similar stunt with the 2-pack thing. I could see Loo-Kee with Queen Marlena as an accessory. That would puts fans in a real fit. Or how how about this? Songster exactly like he looked on the 80's Power Tour (AHHAHA) and Queen Marlena 2-pack!

  • I didn't think I was going to get anything today. It took me 45 minutes to get an Orko & Starro set. Hopefully they rerelease Orko for anyone who missed out. A rerelease of He-Ro would be cool if it came with the black sword that was shown with the prototype.

  • Honestly very surprised to see Skeletor and Mo-larr still available at 9:00 pm EST. I hope this isn't considered a failure in Matty's eyes.

    In fact everything, other than Orko & Plastic Man, is still available.

    I think it's fair to say that Orko's going to be reissued at some point, but does anybody think the same will happen with Plastic Man?

My cousin's name is Adam… he was born in the mid-Eighties, and although its never been confirmed, we suspect he was named Adam after Prince Adam after some pressure from my cousin Lauren any myself. I don't think my aunt nor uncle would ever admit to such a thing, but the chances are good! It was either that or "Tung Lashor".

    I can't believe its midnight and Mo-Larr vs Skeletor is still available. I honestly can't. I know there was a lot of backlash/hatred for this set, but I'm really surprised. I will admit, I wavered back and forth about whether or not I actually wanted this set, but at the end of the day I had to go for it. I like what it says, that they've got a sense of humor, they want to have fun with this line. Despite all the hatred and vitrol targeted at them, they can still have a laugh.

    For me, it's the price. Mollar by himself at $20-25 is a no brainer, but the added 15-20 bucks (and a pretty bland Skeletor) and its a pass in favor of the just Orko and Plastic Man. Had they split up the DC and MOTU figures a couple of weeks apart, after my next paycheck, I would have been willing to splurge.

  • Just so people know, I got my shipping email for Orko after using the backdoor. Here's hoping Mattel doesn't do anything to fix it.
