Poe on Roast Gooble Dinner podcast, episode #23

I made a guest appearance on the most recent episode of He-Man.org‘s Roast Gooble Dinner podcast. You can listen to it at the link below, or get it from Itunes (if it’s not up yet, it should be within the hour).

The big reason for my going on was to discuss the Gygor bio.

Here’s the description of the episode:

Val Staples“Pixel Dan” EardleyJason Clarke and Eamon O’Donoghue
…then Danielle Gelehrter
…then Nathan Baertsch
are back to discuss He-Man and She-Ra.

First, we talk about the Shadow Beast being moved to February on Matty Collector.

After that, we discuss more MOTUC bios. This time, WhiplashGygor, Roboto and Grizzlor.

A few “highlights” of the show:

  • Weenie Roasts!
  • Goolies!
  • Unprofessionalism!

Plus, fellow He-Fan josh on the forums has created this fantastic Roast Gooble Dinner podcast Appendix & Notations which contains a ton of info about the show, with all the info about the Fanart, Fansites and Collectibles of the week, along with links to sites and user profiles of interest, and also details on how to contact the show with your feedback.  Be sure to check that out!

And as always, you’ll enjoy some extra seasoning with this episode’s Fanart of the week, Collectible of the week and Fansite of the week!

So pull up your chair and fill up your plate! It’s time to chow down on a tasty serving of fandom here on He-Man.org’s Roast Gooble Dinner!

I haven't listened to every episode of RG, actually, I think I've only listened to a handful since SDCC, but what I have listened has usually been interesting. Its great to listen to while doing work, cleaning, etc. Its sorta like sports talk radio for geeks!

@Paul: There is some news, generally relating to MOTUC, but the show is mostly about discussion. Right now they're working their way through the bios, and next they're going to start actually discussing the MOTUC figures, then eventually they plan to get to discussing cartoon episodes (both Filmation and MYP), the vintage and 200X figures, and so on.

They've also done some really cool interview segments with designers, writers, and other people associated with the history of He-Man. And keep in mind, Roast Gooble Dinner is only one of three or four relatively popular MOTU-themed podcasts, including MastersCast and the MOTU Chronicles.

@dayraven: It doesn't bother me. I'm glad I've got an ambiguous accent. And to be fair, Danielle doesn't sound like she's from New England either. BTW, I think she sounds somewhat like Sarah Vowell, who does a lot of NPR and audiobook stuff, so you might be thinking of her.

BTW man, don't let them give you crap just cuz you don't sound like an extra from good will hunting… not every bostonian has "the southie."

  4. Nice radio voice, Poe

How can they do a weekly podcast? Is there really that much he-man news?

  5. MegaGearX

Nice to hear you on the podcast, Poe. I didn't realize it was you until Val mentioned it. I'm so used to knowing people by their screen names.

loved hearing you on the podcast. good show.

Hearing some Poe was a fun surprise on the way to work.

It certainly seemed like there were timing issues, with all the Marvel vs. Capcom style tag-offs. Nice work by all.

I need to see red Gygor.

    sweet.

though the penny dreadful thing doesn't explain captain midwest hearing a familiarity in her voice… has she done any national work?

eamon and the jungulia thing cracked me up. though i thought it was jungAlia… may have to go look that up.

EDIT: nope, it is indeed jungulia… was he also from the town of bollocks?

@dayraven: Actually, Danielle is even more awesome than that: she's the New England-based horror host Penny Dreadful of Penny Dreadful's Shilling Shockers.

As for taking questions, I wasn't 100% certain the whole guest appearance was going to work out (there were some potential timing issues), so I didn't want to advertise it ahead of time. Now that I've done one, if/when I do another one I'll have more of a heads-up and can ask for questions here beforehand.

does danielle read books for a living? when she did the roboto bio, i swear i've heard her voice on more than one audiobook i've heard.

this was the first one i've actually listened to, and dear god… let's just say, i've learned a lot about "the leadership" over at the org.

for the record, if i ever get to meet eamon, i'm getting that guy drunk. he sounds like a blast trying to do a PG show… take the gloves off, and YIKES. we'd get along famously, methinks.

if you're doing the podcast in a week poe, and you know ahead of time, you should perhaps offer to take a question or two here. i'm sure we poesters could cough up a few interesting notes to drive conversation.

Love this show and can't wait to hear you on it as I'm doing yardwork this weekend. I have been pleased to hear these guys share many of my concerns with the line, and I love the behind the scenes info. Handy for someone who can't surf the .org every day.

@Dead Man Walking: I think it's only a 1-hour podcast, and I'm already talking as the show fades in 🙂

What time do you come in? I love MOTU but I can't listen to 2-hours podcast of it.
