On the one hand, I don’t like to promote rumor-mongering. But on the other hand, a surprising number of the DCUC rumors released on the Web have proven to be true, or at least partially true. Also, whether they turn out to be true or not, discussing rumored line-ups is a great way to show Mattel what people are and aren’t excited about.
So in that spirit, here are the rumored line-ups for DCUC waves 18, 19, and 20, courtesy of RTM’s Toy Buzz, with my comments in quotes beneath each list.
El Dorado
Toyman
Black Vulcan
Bizarro
Manhunter
Metallo
Apache Chief
Obviously this is a Super Friends wave. The Toyman will allow fans to complete their Legion of Doom (I think…), but one has to wonder whether the Bizarro and Metallo will be new sculpts. I suppose Metallo has to be, so I assume he’ll resemble the version depicted on this page–same goes for Manhunter, Black Vulcan, and (hopefully) Bizarro.
Flash
Shade
Sandman
Vandal Savage
Stargirl
Atom
S.T.R.I.P.E.
Clearly a JSA wave. I assume Atom, Flash and Sandman will all be Golden Age versions.
Superman
Saint Walker
Firestorm
Larfleeze
Guardian
Arisia
Nekron
Another Blackest Night wave–Superman and Firestorm are presumably their zombie versions. Guardian is presumably a Guardian of the Universe, a.k.a. those little blue dudes. I would hope that figure would come with two (male and female).
Thoughts?

Well…as a cherry-picker (Batman, Secret Six..few other odds n'ends) I will be saving a lot of $, if these are correct I will only be looking for one figure (Sandman) in the next three waves.
Your HTML is messed up for the second set.
I'd buy a Toyman, maybe Sandman and Shade and Savage depending on what they look like. Considering what I'm still seeing in regards to DCUC on the shelf, though, I'm guessing this is more like the 2015 lineup of DCUC for me.
Wave 18 would be a complete and total pass for me.
Wave 19 has three definite yeas; Stargirl, Sandman, and Flash. Love the JSA. The others would be "on the shelf" decisions. (And 'can I sneak a giant bag of figures past my wife' decisions).
Wave 20, again, three definite yeas; Saint Walker, Guardians and Larfleeze. I love Blackest Night (Wave 17 is an absolute must have for me) and all the various corps and will buy most of them.
I hope Samurai is included in the Super Friends wave. It would be a shame to get everyone needed to complete the Super Friends team and the Legion of Doom, except for Samurai.
As much as I'm hoping for the Super Friends and JSA waves to be true, I am hoping even more that wave 20 is NOT correct. I simply don't understand why Mattel is suddenly producing all of the same figures that DC Direct has just produced. I realize that some people don't buy DC figures, but still, we've just gotten all of the rainbow lanterns and deputies from DC…do we really need ALL of them again from Mattel? There are so many HUNDREDS of other characters in the DC Universe, including dozens and dozens of Green Lantern related characters, that have never been seen in plastic. If Mattel is trying to hitch a ride on the Green Lantern train, can't they do it with a little more creativity than this?
I'm torn on the rumored Super Friends wave. I'd love to have a BAF Apache Chief and some of the others in that wave but it will depend on how they look.
The JSA wave is a pass for me. If the Flash is Jay Garrick then I'll get him to go with Alan Scott but there's nobody else in that wave I need.
The second Blackest Night wave is a must. Even if Supes and Firestorm are their regular versions I'll be getting them all. And I agree with Poe that the Guardian had better be a two-pack and even better if its a male and female.
Well, there you go…after I posted my message, I see that Ibam and Reverend Ender want the lanterns.
So, help me understand this guys. Why is it that you want these lanterns, even though they have already been made by DC?
I'm NOT saying you shouldn't want them, I just want to understand why you do. Thanks.
Looks like Shade and Sandman are the only two I'd HAVE to own.
I'd buy up the Lantern wave as well, simply because I love the comics… and am anal about needing all my figures in scale.
APACHE CHIEF!! That sold me on the whole wave… Hopefully There will be no Party Apache Chief variant.
@Thomas:
Basically, I decided not to buy DC Direct figures for a variety of reasons; the fact that they made all the Lantern and Lantern Deputies was, I admit, tempting. But I didn't bite, reasoning that they wouldn't mesh with my DCUC collection anyway. So now that Mattel is going to produce them in classics? No brainer.
I am a HUGE fan of super friends and like the other Thomas said I really hope that Samurai is in that wave as he would complete both the super friends AND more importantly the Super Powers lines.
they already made apache chief, samurai and black vulcan for the JLU line so i know they can not be tat far behind in the DCUC line.
I need Toyman as well since that completes the LOD.
wave 18 is meh for me.
wave 19 is great…love me some blackest night and more lanterns
Wave 18 – could be interesting but the character choices haven't got me excited enough to bust a gut trying to get them. If I can get them on Matty Collector at some stage (like they keep promising to do) I'll be fine with that. The only one that really interest me here is Manhunter.
Wave 19 – Much more interesting. I'm definitely getting these guys. Really hope the Sandman is the classic version with the fedora and gas mask, not the horrible yellow and purple spandex version.
Wave 20 – blah. I'm very happy for those that want the core Lanterns as DCUC but like many others I've already bought the DCD version of the alien Lanterns since scale was close enough to work in displays. Be interesting to see how they pull off Nekron as a CnC – will he have his scythe?
@Sledgehama: I would think so, since Trigon had his staff. I wonder if he'll have metal chains like the upcoming Vikor figure, or if Mattel will just leave them off…
I'd buy wave 18, though I would much rather have Samurai than El Dorado. He would fit with both SuperFriends and Super Powers.
18 is a no-brainer, though I'd really much rather have a variety than whole themed waves…it seems like you risk alienating whole segments of your consumers that way.
I'd love Arisa, Saint Walker, and Larfleeze! The Guardians pave the way for Detective Chimp hopefully. Was it necessary to vote on whether Nekron would be a C&C? I'd sell or trade the crappy BL Supes, but I'm assuming the Firestorm is Deathstorm, so I might keep him.
Golden Age Flash! Yes!!!
These are all win for me. I love all of these characters and will buy them all.
Waves 18 and 19 sound pretty cool but I am not quite sure of wave 20 as I haven't been reading Blackest Night. But if they are cool figures done right I will probably pick them up. Am I the only one that likes the 90s version of Manhunter that had the red/blue costume and metal mask? I always thought he would make a cool figure.
I hate people that do this, but I'm pretty much "Meh" on most of these.
@Thomas: I like articulation and the DCDirect stuff I've seen has been lacking in one or more POA that I like to have in an action figure (ab crunch, swivel/hinge hips, balljointed head). Granted the DCD figures are beautiful and with their metallic paint they would really pop on my shelf. But the articulation and the fact that I already have a DCUC collection started are why I want the DCUC versions.
No Warlord? I'm very sad.
@Dead Man Walking: Me too!
El Dorado!
A dumb stereotype character that I barely remember! There is some Willrow Hood level geekiness there that I appreciate, even if he is lame.
"Black Vulcan–"
"That's Supervolt!"
Wish they make a Static Shock figure ,Amethyst Princess of Gemworld or fraggin Sgt.Rock.The GL stuff should just stick to the Movie line like with Iron Man having a comic subseries.
Funny thing about the 18 rumor. The previous rumor didn't have Toyman listed and was only mentioned a few weeks ago. Suddenly he appears out of nowhere on this list?
Always add salt when listening to RTM rumors. A few have been right, others way off.
I hope the guardians come as pack of three or four…
Waves 19 and 20 sound amazing. I've been waiting for Golden Age Flash and Sandman. Shade will be great too. Blackest Night was awesome so that whole wave looks good too. Wave 18 however may be a total pass. Not really interested in any of those characters other than Bizarro and I doubt they can top the DCSH version.
@Thomas: I feel similarly to lBam in that they don't mesh with my DCUCs THAT well, although in some cases I find it acceptable. I haven't bought very many of the DC direct guys also because I am not always a fan of the sculpts. Additionally the two that I bought most recently, Atrocitus and Saint Walker, suck. Their articulation in terrible and both can hardly stand with a STAND much less on their own. Saint Walker's sculpt is also rather poor in my opinion. Lastly, many of the DC direct characters are scarce and expensive now, like the Guardians and Larfleeze, so I am pleased to be able to get them in a style that goes with the majority of my collection.
@toyman2581: I didn't collect during DCSH so I haves me no Bizarro yet.
If this turns out to be legitimate then, per usual there are some I'm absolutely in favor (Toyman, human Metallo, Savage, Shade, Sandman) of and some that I'll be getting for the C&C piece (the Super Friends stuff).
And I'm absolutely a proponent of getting the Lantern leaders into DCUC. The DC Direct ones simply aren't in scale (save maybe Attrocitus). Although I may now have to get the DC Direct Larfleeze for his Glomulus.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut…here's my problem.
If this is legitmate, that means close to a year before we get any of the following
A) Poison Ivy
B) Granny Goodness
C) Any more Metal Men
D) Any more Doom Patrol
To which I say: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over?
Seriously, if this line ends and I don't get Ivy or Granny, I'm gonna pop.
It's all good to me, the Superfriends stuff is of minimal interest, but the JSA wave is the one I'm most excited about.
I'd buy the lot, money issues allowing of course!
@Reverend Ender: Thanks for explaining. I guess we all have our opinions and experiences. I have both Atrocitus and Saint Walker, and I haven't had any trouble with either of them. They both stand on my shelf without stands and without any trouble.
Obviously, if you don't like the sculpts, that's personal preference, but it's unfortunate if you've had trouble keeping them standing.
It looks to me like Wave 18 is not simply a Super Friends/Legion of Doom wave…but also based on the unproduced wave(s) of Super Powers. All the more reason to expect Samurai and maybe an 80s Supergirl and hopefully Mr Mxyzptlk sometime soon. Bizarro would probably be that blue/red DCSH repaint that we were supposed to get in a two-pack with the light blue "Secret Origins" Superman…but an all-new Bizarro would be nice. I am not a big GL fan, but it looks like I am going along for the ride. Same goes for JSA. Definitely need Flash. And did someone mention Warlord? He's pretty hot…for an older guy. He'd probably come with a lot of cool weapons as well, so count me in when the time comes. Let's hope for a big reveal at Toy Fair!
This Blackest Night wave sounds a lot better than the one we just had revealed although has it ever been explained why we're getting three Red Lanterns but none of them are Atrocitus? I have been wondering about that.
@Valo487:
if/when we do get him He would just be a retooled kilowag/arkillo/validus/er…red guy from public enemies taht is escaping my mind.
I am getting pretty tired of that buck being used numerous times already.
Depending on Bizarro, wave 18 will likely be a pass.
That lets me save money for the next two, wallet busting groups.
Blue Warrior needs a trust fund badly!!
@Thomas: Also take a look at this
and then tell me how you feel about the head sculpt of the Saint Walker on your shelf. (And don’t forget the poseability. (and what’s up with his weird hands? (BOTH of their weird hands for that matter!)))
Picking and choosing: Manhunter. Probably Flash, Stargirl, and maybe Sandman. Larfleeze maybe, the Guardians, and Arisia. (Arisia seems iffy to me, like she'd be the one to get replaced there, but I'd buy her.)
Really want Elasti-Girl, to finish the Doom Patrol. (I hate Mento, and do you really need a Chief?)
With a couple of I'll-make-my-mind-up-if-I-ever-see-em exceptions this is just a big list of shoulder shrugs and money saved. Where's the Doomsday CnC that's about the only DC character I actually need now?
While the JSA wave sounds most appealing to me, it seems suspect that there would be a wave featuring Flash and Atom variations two waves after one with Flash and Atom variations.
@Reverend Ender:
The Bizarro in Wave 18 may just be a repaint/reissue of the DCSH version anyway so you're probably good. You can always wait till it's out and then compare it with the DCSH one and scoop that one up off eBay if you like it better.
I love the idea of a build-a-figure Elastigirl…
But on the main topic, I think the rumours are probably true. That said, I agree with Thomas. I love the thoughts of waves 18 and 19, but I don't need new renderings of Blackest Night characters I already have from DC Direct. Really. I don't. I mean there is already the dueling Mongel (super big from DC Direct and slightly altered reissue from DCUC) and Arkillo (Build a figure from DCGLUC and regular size coming soon from DC Direct). It's getting ridiculous because, for the most part, they are in scale with each other.
I, for one, would really like a Chief.
These waves look interesting – but not really exciting for me. The Super Friends wave, if it comes to pass, will be tempting due to nostalgia (which is, after all, one of the main reasons I collect these things). The Blackest Night stuff looks cool, but there's nothing really "classic" about it.
I guess I'm well into cherry-picking mode on this line. There are only a couple announced figures that I'm eager to get. And the recent Marvel Legends packs have reminded me how much more viscerally I respond to them. Ultra-Humanite, for instance, is an amazing figure, and I was quite happy when I put him together; but not quite as happy as when I got that new Deadpool (or even my umpteenth Hulk).
There are still a few potential DCUC figures that could make me flip out, though. Completing the Doom Patrol – Caulder and all – would do it. If that Golden Age Sandman gets made, I'll have a full-blown nerdgasm. And if they ever somehow manage to get a 4H-sculpted Swamp Thing in the line? I'd completely f@%*ing lose my $#!^.
@AJ: I suspect the Flash will be the Jay Garrick version and the Atom the Al Pratt version, both of which haven't been produced by Mattel yet and are significantly different from their modern counterparts.
I'm in! I like the rumors so far. Surprised that Wave 18 is lacking Samurai!? Manhunter seems a weird choice.
@Reverend Ender: Like I said, it comes down to personal preference and opinions. I do like the sculpts on my DC Direct Atrocitus and Saint Walker. I'm not sure what you mean about Saint Walker's face. I think it looks spot-on. I also LOVE the metallic paints that were used on these and think they both look great with all of my other DC Direct and Mattel color lanterns.
I do agree that the positioning of their hands makes it difficult for them to hold their lanterns, but that wasn't a show-stopper for me, and I have been able to pose them both so that they are holding their lanterns.
Anyway, I don't think one is better than another. My DC Direct lanterns work for my collection and hopefully the Mattel versions will work for you. My real complaint is that Mattel is releasing all of the same figures that DC has just released or will be releasing in the next few months, and they are doing so in their main line. If they were to continue with the GL sub-line, these would ALL be perfect, but they are taking valuable spots away from long-standing characters in the DC Universe that have never been made into figures.
I'm NOT saying you shouldn't be excited or interested in these figures, but I would be SHOCKED if you could say that this wave of characters tops your list of most wanted figures. I'm sure you could easily list six or twelve or more other characters from the DC Universe that would be higher on your list of wants than these. That's all I'm saying. There are so many other characters that Mattel could have chosen and I don't get why they went with these.
@Dankone: I agree–I'd take Samurai and Toyman over El Dorado any day. Manhunter and Metallo were part of the 4th wave of Super Powers that was never produced. If that's the thinking, I'd prefer Shockwave over another Metallo.
I love how no one talked about S.T.R.I.P.E. it better bet the Ironman Hulk-Buster-looking version.
hay mattle keep up new and classic heroes and villains greet job
@Thomas: Agreed, however despite all the things I fault Mattel for, for some reason I am fairly certain that they are going to get to almost all the characters I really want. The only ones that I am unsure of are Shadowpact. I do understand, however, that I am probably one of about 6 people who would LOVE a complete team of DCUC Shadowpact.
I DO really like the iridescent paint as well. I REALLY wish Mattel would do/have done all of the lanterns this way. I fully plan on repainting all my Mattel Lanterns with shiny paint.
Since they made Zatanna, hopefully we get 7 soldiers out of this like Klarion the witch boy and Frankenstein.
@Fengschwing; Obviously, but they would still be Flash and Atom figures at the end of the days 9in fact, the originals). After all, Alan Scott was packaged as "Green Lantern" on the front of the package.
As much as I absolutely would love the JSA wave. I have to say that I really do not like the way the line is heading (according to rumor). I never liked theme waves, especially when they are full of one time characters from recent stories in a universe with 75 years worth of story lines and characters. DCUC is about getting those obscure characters that while someones D-List is someones A-List, and leaving the current stuff to DC Direct. Of course my opinion might be completely different if I had my Rita Farr, and was't worried if I will ever see a complete Doom Patrol.
Shadowpact would be awesome…Detective Chimp would be so cool. The new Marvel legend 2-packs are ridiculously priced @ TRU for $34.99 WTF?!
@Lovable-Bill: I agree, Bill. I like the variety that we have seen up to this point and am not thrilled with the themed waves. Themed waves generally will mean complete buys or complete passes for collectors. I love the JSA, so will buy the whole wave, but I don't need any of the rainbow lanterns, so will pass on that entire wave.
I guess the question is whether that will balance out for Mattel. Obviously, it's good for business when I buy an entire wave, but it seems like it would be better to have a mixed wave where I might buy one, two, three, or more figures from that wave, than to have a themed wave that I don't care about and won't buy any of them.
I totally agree with Thomas' thoughts…
Although I will like and buy all the characters in the line (because I want my DCUC entirely complete), I'm not thrilled with Green lantern figures in the main line. I think they would fit better in DC Green Lantern Classics (which is also a part of my DCUC collection). I'm also collecting DCD Blackest Night and I adore each figure; but why Mattel needs to realease all the same figures, I don't understand.
I don't mind JSA, but I believe they will be very interesting and be great acquisitions.
But if rumors about Wave 18 are true, it will blow my mind, except if Samurai is missing in this wave. In my opinion, Wave 18 needs Black Vulcan, Samurai, El Dorado, Toyman, Bizarro and CnC Apache Chief (which, by the way, will look awesome next to Giganta).
@Magneto76: Yeah, Toys R Us has set absurd prices on the new ML stuff. I'm glad I got them before they raised the prices – which they have done twice now in the short while they have been out. Here in NYC they are now $41. (DCUC and DCUC/MOTU two-packs are as well.)
The reason I walked away from DCD is because of poor articulation, no uniform size to the figures, and a couple of other reasons.
DCUC, for me, is a much better line.
(Remember, for me.) I'm glad they give us the selection of figures they do.
Do you think that the MANHUNTER figure is the Walt Simonson figure??
Glad we're getting (probably) Jay Garrick-Flash, Pratt-The Atom, and SANDMAN. Sandman will be the gas-masked, fedora, suit wearing, caped original one…. but I, for one, wished that they would offer the Simon & Kirby, purple and yellow suited one…as the variant. I suspect they won't.
The same with THE ATOM. He has two costumes that I hope we get: the original, and the fin-head, atomic costume he wore during his run in the Golden Age All-Star JSA.
We still need a G.A. HAWKMAN, MR. TERRIFIC, JOHNNY THUNDER, WONDER WOMAN, and BLACK CANARY.
And, hopefully, SUPERMAN and BATMAN!!
I not only want Elasti-Girl, …but also, THE CHIEF. THE DOOM PATROL isn't complete without The Chief.
And maybe, Mento.
@AJ:
DCUC Death of the Endless,SWOOOOON!
I think it would be awesome and hilarious if we ended up getting Neil Gaiman’s Sandman in that wave.
And it would be hilarious and sad if they used the standard male base body for it.
El Dorado! Apache Chief! FINALLY!
