  • Vikor and the Palace Guards are some of my favorite figures in the line so far.

    Lots of great stuff out today, but they replaced the Goddess with Evil-Lyn. :(

    I'm shooting for some stands… lots of them.

  • It's been WSODing for me on and off since ten minutes 'til, lol.

    So I still can't decide how many guard sets (one or two) AND how many stands to get.

    Blargh.

  • I was going to try and get a Vikor, and then review the order process, and the figure, as a MOTUC newbie. Sold out, by 9:03 local time. So, done, I guess.

    As for the changes this month, I was skeptical, but the Matty ordering process was FLAWLESS this time!

    In (at 1 min past sale) and out (3 min past sale) with my Palace Guards with WSoD at each step lasting no longer than 5 seconds.

    I guess CAPTCHA really does help. O_O

  • Im having the same issue with the grayskull stands, restricted by country but I live in New York USA!!!!

    Vikor sold out, Im going to go out on a limb and say the reason for that is they had ALOT more people sign up for the subs, but didnt increase production numbers, same thing happened last year with adora. This makes me worried about that extra shadow beast i want next month selling out extremely quickly! lame………

  • so eventually i told it my shipping address was different than my billing, and just re entered my address (same as my billing address) and it let me buy the stands

  • @ 12:02 I added 1x Vikor and 1x Palace Guards, when I reached my cart page a couple of minutes later, I only had the Guards.

    I'm guessing low production run on Vikor. Oh, well.

  • Vikor's near-instantaneous sell-out tells me that Matty is really only interested in growing their # of subscribers. If that's true, why not just make this a "made to order" line where fans pre-order figures a few months out?

    I'm collecting less and less these days and Matty is really working hard to make certain that this line is one less line I spend $$ on.

    Ultimately, that wasn't so painful an ordering process as usual. Bummer about Vikor, though–I'd hoped to score an extra one for a friend of mine.

  • yeah, so, i got there right at 10:00am MST. WSOD for 6 minutes. Vikor was sold out, no chance for me to get him at all. got 3 guard sets and 3 sets of stands… I guess Idaho isn't considered a foreign country like California is.

    bummed about the Vikor sell out. I woke up early and did my best! onto shebay. you win, matty and scalpers. back to bed.

  • I got through, but they said that the stands were limited for my country, so I threw them out and just went with the palace guards – I definitely did not want to miss those. I went in again and have now completed a second order with the stands *phew* Granted, it's double shipping, but what's new with matty?

  • Well it wasn't just Americans having issues with the site – it kept reloading the order page rather than moving on to billing for a couple of minutes for no clearly apparent reason during which time Vikor sold out. Damn! So now do I hold off until the reissue some months/years down the track or pay through the nose on the secondary market? Sigh…

  • got what i wanted cuz i subbed to matty collector BUT i cant believe they did away with evil-lynn at the last minute and excluded the palace guards from the membership! hopefully next month will be better and evil-lynn will return soon!!!!

  • The stand issue has been fixed. Apparently getting an order in late isn't our only concern. Now we have to worry about ordering too early…

  • Out of curiousity…did anyone actual order the Venkman figure on sale today?

    I didn't…I've decidedly to wash my hands of the line…in fact I plan to sell the four figures I have to help pay for the guard two packs.

  • No Venkman for me. While I'm keeping Winston,slime Egon, and Ray, I'm done with the line as well. Only a really cool figure like Janine or Possessed Dana would cause me to order one of these again.

  • I got kicked out of the billing (the new captcha page) THREE times… so the captcha doesn't help at all.. the problem is BEFORE that stage…

    also, I'm waiting to hear their apology over vikor and the stands issue.. luckily, I didn't want the damn stands… and I have a sub, but a co-worker wanted me to try and get a vikor for him

  • I should get around to opening Vikor. He actually arrived at my place almost a week ago (I live just a little over an hour from their distribution center so maybe that has something to do with it).

  • Aside from the lightning bolt sold out on Vikor, the whole precess really went fairly smooth. Just sayin'. But, yeah, I'm kinda itching to hear their explanation for the super-fast sell-out.

  • I can understand people's disappoint in Vikor selling out so quickly, but I'm not too surprised.

    The January through March figures are always going to be super quick sell outs because Matty will always be guestimating on how many more to produce on top of the subscription and they're always going to be more likely to hedge their bets than over produce.

  • I posted a poll on mattycollector.com to find out if anyone managed to order a Vikor through the site today. So far, no one has been able to.

    Me thinks something is rotten in the state of Mattydom….

  • Everything went smoothly for me–WSOD for a grand total of five seconds–until I got to the checkout. That damned CAPTCHA kept screwing up for me. After the 10th time I said to hell with it and gave up.

    i can't bring myself to buy the eternia sub because while i think all the figures look great, the limitations of $ and space force me to cherry pick just the essentials. also since i jumped in late i'm primarily after the re-issues.

    otoh i bought the GB sub because i'm a big fat sucker for anything GB. its an inferior line from a sculpting point of view i know. its just a weakness of mine. so…out of curiousity which 4 GB figures are you selling?

  • I fell victim to the stands not being able to ship to the US as well; I'm not putting in another order just for them though. If the guards are still there by the end of the day I may try again but I'm honestly amazed they've lasted as long as they have.

    I think Vikor's a glitch too unless there were seriously 100 people who ordered 10 each in the first 2 minutes. Then again that could be intentional of Matty, laying down the law and telling everyone to get the subs…

  • I find it odd that Vikor has now been removed from the site entirely. You can't access him from any page anymore, as if he doesn't exist. I smell a fix coming for later in the day or another sale.

  • I got through with a few issues. The payment screen kept refreshing before I could confirm my card security code but eventually it calmed down. Then I realized I forgot to order stands and put through a second order for more Guards and stands to make the most of the shipping.

    Now I wait and see how long it takes them to ship my orders.

    Oh and my Vikor sub went through without a hitch. He arrived on Friday and is proudly displayed on the end table on my side of the couch next to my Shortpacked! statues and Farscape Pulse Pistol.

  • @muldertp: Vikor is still showing on the all-in-one sale page and you can get to his individual page through that link. Still showing sold out but he's still up there.

  • @Mysterious Stranger: Not on my computer. Just before I wrote that and 5 seconds ago, I went to the all-in-one page and he's not on there anymore, even as sold out. I tried multiple links I had to his individual page also and it says it no longer exists.

  • well i had a pretty easy transaction. thank god i had my vikors coming with my sub.

    Bought 2 sets of guards and 4 sets of stands and was put pretty fast.

    I was worried the guards would be gone since i logged in about 15 min after the sale started.

  • @gorgon5: There's a good reason the Guards were 'excluded' from the sub — They were delayed from 2010, so either they wouldn't be in the sub, or a different 40 dollar SKU later this year would have to be removed from the sub.

    Got two Vikors and a Palace Guards set with absolutely no problems. The site ran smoother for me today than it has pretty much.. ever. I really wanted two Palace Guard sets, but no way I could afford all that.

    I still hate CAPTCHA, though. It took me three tries to get right. Can never tell what those stupid things say, and the 'listen' option doesn't help since it's like trying to hear your mentally challenged friend on a cell phone during a giant orgy.

    Big thanks to Poe, though: That "all-in-one" page is a friggin' lifesaver in months where I need more than one figure. And I can never find it without using Poe's link. Thanks, man.

  • Can anyone checkout their orders under the Order History page? I got my order confirmation e-mail for my guards but every time I try to check it out I get an error message. I'm not so much worried as I am confused.

  • @MOSE – I see my order history just fine. Might be a glitch.

    @muldertp – I don't know what happened as I could always see him, even after I cleared my browser cache, cookies and all. Weird.

  • Matty Collector is now blocked on the "internet cafe" at work… (yet I can still access this site). In a last ditch effort, I tried to order via my crappy cell phone, got as far as logging in but it said something like "invalid security" or something. I hope the 2-packs last another 2 hours…

    I'm actually home today for the first time during order day! But, I got wrapped up playing toddler stuff with my son and I forgot.

    Broke away for a minute and the monthly Poe reminder totally worked! Logged in at 1:30 EST and ordered the Guards pretty much instantly! Thanks, Poe. I can't believe they were still there.

    I'm glad I opted to skip the stands since that seems like a mess. Plus, I would have needed like 50 of them. The Vikor thing is odd. I got my very first renewal notice, so I'm covered. Is it possible that there are simply enough new subscribers that only a few were left?

  • @barbecue17: I got two for myself, and a friend of mine got four (for four different people – all Conan fans, not MOTU fans).

    I imagine Vikor brought in a fair few first time, maybe only time, buyers.

  • Regarding Vikor, one thing that's different might be that maybe a good bit more people were interested in him due to the resemblance to another more popular barbarian, and teh chance to add him to thier collections.

  • Its the Skeletor reissue all over again. Figured it had to be something like that. I really can't see them cutting back production that much to cause a 4 minutes or less sell out.

    Depending on when it goes on sale I might have to get another one to make a helmetless Conan.

  • I'm amazed at the quick sellout for Vikor. The wife was online right at 11am for my Guards and a Vikor for a buddy but she couldn't snag him. You non-subscription people have my sympathies. Next month is going to be brutal.

  • This company continues to make less and less sense every month. Were they assuming Vikor would sell out anyway, then just sit on the stock until his "reissue", until the backlash of a three-minute sell-out proved their customers a tad less daft than Matty assumed?

  • Those sons of bitches–just opened my Vikor (sub-he arrived today) and they have nerfed the neck articulation! The ball joint is now locked into the neck like the DCUC figures, effectively eliminating all but side-to-side movement.

  • Yessirs, the bottom of the neck peg is tied into the torso itself. You can plainly see it when you pop his head off. Extraordinarily irate now…

  • @Dark Angel: You can't tell if they used the messed up DCUC barbell design without cracking the torso open. Sounds like yours is just stuck. Try some hot water to loosen it up.

    So i received my Vikors today. nothing is wrong with the neck. I popped off the head and compared it to other figures. Nothing is different.

    I think it is the hair that gets in the way a bit or perhaps just teh head itself underneath is a bit less shallow.

  • Yeah, if there's any problem it's because of the hair/cape butting up against each other. Without the cape, his head moves perfectly.

    Also, this figure is awesome.

  • My Vikor neck moves normally. It was really tough to get off and on when trying to get him out of the package, but it's fine otherwise. The whole figure is ridiculously tight. I can't even get the ankles to move at all.

    Nevermind, I got them working. Nice improvement there. He's got a plastic face like She-Ra, but it looks much better here.

    hmmm…i recant what i said. My vikor seems to be constructed the same way as yours. however, mine still seems to have most of the same movement as other figures. I will prob test it some more but this IS very odd that they would change something that was already working.

  • @Dark Angel: I stand corrected on the construction BUT mine has the full range of movement as the other figures. Again I suggest you heat yours up to see if its stuck. And FYI its NOT the same construction as the triple barbell of the DCUC figures that limited the movement of those figures. If you just want to bitch and complain that's fine but there's no need to get all pissy when people offer insight and try to help.

    as for the neck, i'm sure that, prior to your photos, you can understand some folks being skeptical, as interior design like that is a costly revision to the construction process, and thusfar, in a line where we're publicly reminded how shallow the coffers are by the manufacturer, prior to you posting photos, it's hard to believe that that kind of investment took place w/out matty tooting their own horn over the "improvements." you did the right thing in taking photos, you proved your point w/out insulting folks… till you came back in here. chill homes. remember your mellow…

    someone on IAT suggested that their vikor feels rotocast… anyone else getting that? maybe we have a complete revision to the interior here… i almost hate to ask if anyone has cracked one completely open.

  • I don't understand the need to remove a great point of articulation, no matter how small. The ball in the neck cavity was great for getting just a little extra movement out of the head, no matter the direction. Great for some attitude in a pose.

    I have not apreciated Vikor's neck pin design on the MOTUC/DCUC females and DCUC teen bucks, but I will reserve judgement until Vikor is in hand. Curious and curiouser…

    Dark Angel was right. But I don't think Mysterious Stranger's initial reply was intentionally mean–he was wrong, but he just thought Dark Angel was mistaken. It turns out he was mistaken. It happens. And there's still some question whether the neck still has the full range of motion or not.

    Let's not let this escalate. You're both valued members of the PGPoA community.

    Let's direct our energy toward the real issue–figuring out why this change was made, whether it's permanent, and whether it truly does limit the articulation. Some of the posters on He-Man.org seem to think their Vikors still have the same range of motion in the neck.

    I'll be able to add my 2¢ tonight if/when I receive my Vikor.

  • Like I said, I noticed the change in the neck peg design after images were posted BUT it does NOT reduce the range of motion. The hole in the neck is the same as its always been, maybe a little bigger. The neck peg appears to be a C or O wrapped around a ball inside the neck and moves the same as the plain ball and socket design we've seen before. If yours isn't moving then either its stuck or you got a bad figure.

    This is NOT the same as the DCUC triple barbell which severely limited articulation (and which you can't see unless you crack the torso, a point I was making above before being accused of leading a witchhunt). The new neck peg design DOES allow the same range of motion, you just have to work the stiffness out a bit. Stiffness of the joints seems to be a common thing with Vikor. The new ankles on mine are VERY tight which I like. And all of his other joints are nice and stiff too. So the neck peg being stiff and possibly not moving on some figures isn't Mattel fucking us over, just a fact of production with this figure.

  • Poe, I apologize if I was out of line in any way. I normally don't respond as I did and let this kind of thing slide. I just happened to be in a less than pleasant mood when I read the comments and reacted emotionally. This is your house and I'm a guest. If I disrespected you in any way you have my sincerest apologies.

  • I realize it's not the triple barbell. It's the same loop/peg design they use in some Barbie necks.

    My concern is, while it may still allow for a similar range of motion, it is not as sturdy as the double ball, and the motion isn't as fluid.

    Experience informs me that the loop/peg design may move, but it won't stay where you put it. The double bar will, and is better for tweaking a pose.

    The peg/loop works on Barbie because her head is cast in soft plastic. The head can move freely and the soft plastic creates friction which helps the head hold a pose.

    It doesn't work well on MOTUC/DCUC females and the teen bucks that Mattel uses it on. The heads are harder plastic. The ball that attaches to the head many times acts more as a swivel joint because of the amount of material around it. This leads to hampered movement. The peg/loop has no real friction to hold it in position, so the heads "bobble".

    This may not be a problem for the MOTUC male bucks due to their larger size, but still, it is not as efficient a design as the double ball.

    I don't get why Mattel would trade superb, fully functioning articulation for something lesser.

    Why jack, ankles not withstanding (thanks for fixing those Matty), with what, by Crom, may be the greatest action figure buck ever for barbarian loving folks.

  • FYI my two orders from Tuesday have arrived. My army of Palace Guards will soon join my MOTUC shelf and some of my figures will have stands to pose on.

  • speaking of, has anyone checked the necks of the palace guards to see if this new neck-or joint is present on those too?

    my closing point to DA will be this… you assumed you were being called a liar. you weren't. RAW, the post simply stated that you were mistaken, which it turns out, you were not, that the articulation had changed. my suggestion to you, to chill out, was directed at your personal slight assumed from an innocent comment. which i thought i made clear in my response to you, but whatev. either way, you were vindicated, so why continue to be hostile? MS said he was wrong, and admitted you were correct, i pointed out, many times over, that you were correct… what more do you want? i don't do blowies.

    I don't know about the neck yet, but this figure has me stoked. This is the barbarian toy I have been waiting for. Cannot wait to receive him.
