Any questions for Mattel?

This is for the May 1 edition. Questions are due by 11:59pm Wednesday, April 13.

  • Okay, still regarding packaging. Poseing the WWE figures in any pose is damaging the joints on some of them. Its okay saying its not all of them but some of us that end up with damagedones cannot change them.

Why can't you just put them in the packet and be done with it?

Also when are we getting some new Voltron toy images?

  • The 10 year anniversary of the 200X series is next year. How about doing something special for the fans. One suggestion: release the Kobra Khan and Faker stactions. There are still many people who would gladly fork over $20 for those.

  • With the recent announcement of 2 of the 8 remaining JLU 3 packs going up on Mattycollector in the fall, can you confirm the rumor that Target has ceased ordering this product? The Target search engine shows 6/10 stores within 50 miles out of stock, and it's been that way for weeks.

  • I still want to know:

What is up with those strange yellow lanterns that come with all the Sinestro Corps figures in DCUC and DC Retro action? In the comics, all the yellow lanterns look just like the green ones.

  • WWE Question: Can Mattel clarify why Canadian case assortments of Elite figures only include 2 figures from the wave?

It’s very frustrating for Canadian customers since there’s absolutely no options for the other 4 figures in each wave but to track them down online, often at highly inflated prices.

  • Brightest Day is giving us the return of Alec Holland aka Swamp Thing!

Can I get a DCUC Swamp Thing figure now?

  • 1) It seems like there has been a recent surge in Green Lantern related figures in DCUC and I’m loving the opportunity to pick up them up. Will that be simmering down over the next few waves?

    2) While the cast of human characters is limited for the Ghostbusters line, the cast of ghost characters seems less limited. Will there ever be Ghost-only releases in the line? I think many fans are increasingly more open to buying ghosts over humans.

    3) Are cloth capes ever to be an option with regular DCUC figures? The material used for some cloth capes in the 6″ Batman line that preceded DC Superheroes was excellent.

    4) Will there be more opportunities to purchase constructs for lanterns in other box sets?

    5) We’ve heard that Mattel is very particular about adding extra articulation to certain figures based on what’s appropriate, but can you shed any light on the decision to add so many extra points of articulation to Black Hand? His character does not seem to be one that necessitates extra posing abilities when there are so many other characters that do. In fact, I think it works against the figure in some ways.

    6) Do you have any knowledge if the type of plastic used for DC packaging is recyclable? If it is not, will Mattel ever attempt to use more recyclable plastics?

Yes, his Brightest Day appearance squarely puts him back into the DC Universe and a candidate for our DC toy lines.

  • How frequently can we expect the presence of sculpted on dials, buttons, and levers on upcoming MOTUC figures? While Mattel's original stance on this issue was that the figures would not include action features/ gimmicks/ or anything that would break up the sculpt, this seems to have changed. What is the reasoning for this change? Does this forshadow a return to action features in the future? How does the inclusion of non functioning dials and such mesh with the philosophy of the "classics machine?"

  • The extra heads in the Green Lantern Classics line have caused me to purchase my first DCUC figures in quite some time. Is this a concept we will continue to see in both Green lantern and DCUC?

  • The answers to all of these questions will be:

"Wait and see." or "Time will tell" or "We will look into it." or "We at Mattel are always trying to improve…blah, blah, blah…" or "Not ready to comment."

I think we need to come up with some better questions than this. Otherwise this is a waste of time.

  • I know the development time was rushed, but why are Marshmallow Mess Ray's Ecto Goggles apparently sized for the minimates? Will we see a future figure released with accurately scaled goggles? They are an important accessory to ghostbuster fans.

Also, why not make the radio fit in the holster? The holster was obviously retooled to take the radio out, why not make it hallow instead of a solid block? Hasbro has holsters on smaller scale figures almost regularly, so it must be possible.

  • @ toyman2581:

When the Sinestro Corps first started, the lanterns looked like that. Then DC changed it. Simple as that.

  • Why in MOTUC, if it's a collector's line, can we not get sharp or semi-sharp fangs on king hsss' various snake heads, or other items, like weapons?

  • Thanks Snarf!Snarf!

I'm still hoping for more than just "he's a candidate" :)

  • MOTUC:

    1. Has any thought been given to possibly using some of King Hsss' scaled parts (like his legs or arms) for a version of Kobra Kahn down the road?

    2. On the topic of the dials. Given the fact that you guys seem to think they're cool, does this mean we have to worry about getting the dial on Tounge Lashor now?

  • @ americanhyena:

Nay, good sir. I just went back and checked my issues, it never looks like that. Green Lantern #18, volume 4 clearly shows a regular lantern colored yellow. Now, the Sinestro Corps symbol looks like the toy lanterns. So I guess they just decided to make the toy lanterns look like the symbol, but I have no idea why.

  • I just finished putting together my C & C Bane. Why was the decision made to re-use so many other parts, leaving him largely out of scale? And don't blame it on 4H design!

  • I'm really excited about Man E Faces, and I'm hoping we get an awesome bio. Having said that, in his original comic, he had these weird "theater masks" that would make a great accessory. Any chance of seeing those?
