- I’m (finally!) on vacation this week, and my hope is to finally get to some of those reviews I’ve been promising you guys forever. The pile of unopened toys has only gotten bigger, though, including the NECA Robocop, which I found at TRU over the weekend.
- One thing I learned during this move is that I have a LOT of toys. More than I realized, and that was after selling off a bunch of stuff to a local comic shop. If you stop by Comicazi! in Somerville, MA any time over the next few months and buy a loose figure, there’s a good chance it may once have been mine.
- Club Infinite Earths put up a good fight, but as of right now it’s still 40% short of its goal. I’ve said since the beginning that whatever the goal was for this sub, it was just too high. That suggests either Mattel didn’t do the due diligence on testing what the market really was, or they always knew it was going to be a long shot. At this point, even without all the QC issues, historically terrible distribution, and Gleekocalypse, I’m not sure the Club could have hit the needed subscriptions. The only hope now is that it did well enough that the brand managers can convince the higher-ups to do it.
- Notable reviews from around the net: Pixel Dan reviews Vigo the Carpathian & MOTUC Leech; Wesitron reviews the 6″ Modern ThunderCats Lion-O

Poe, you didn't offer to sell your toys to your fellow Poesters? I'm sad
I needed to get rid of a bunch all at once. And also, I hate packing and shipping stuff, especially a bunch of little things. It just would have been too much of a hassle.
I hope something like the brand managers convincing the higher-ups happens. I would really be sad to lose the line, & the opportunity to do what MOTUC did.
I was suddenly thinking today; I wonder if they've inflated the required number for the DCUC sub, so that it can appear to be underfunded, and then "Matty" can suddenly come to our rescue with a magnanimous "well, we've decided to do it all for you guys, because we love the fans" kind of message and reap the good will.
I could be entirely wrong, but the conspiracy theorist in me wonders.
I'll be curious to see what you say about the NECA Robocop. I was never particularly impressed with the protos, but I saw the final the other day at TRU and even at $13, it looked like a bootleg McFarlane Robo with really uneven paint and just generally lacking any WOW at all.
Mattel should have made the Club IE exclusive a 6″ figure, thus making the sign-up cost only $15. That would have let me sign-up for it.
In the end the sub would cost the same, but the psychological effect would have helped sell more subs. That’s just my thinking on the situation.
I bit the bullet and bought CIE and Club Eternia, even though I am kind of broke and live in Alaska now. MUST have Shadow Weaver, and I don't want DCUC to die, despite all its problems. And I have never received any free product samples from Mattel to color my decision. Would've probably bought Voltron too, even though I watched it only rarely as a child, simply because the toys look so cool. Will we be able to purchase them on sale days without a sub?
Voltron? Yeah. Only missing the exclusive Sven pilot.
I caved, bought the Club IE sub. Countdown clock over at savedcuc.com is on zero but looks like you can still buy over at mattycollector.com.
Seems odd that they would still be pimping their fan's choice vote with a few hours to go over on Facebook if they weren't still going ahead with it, that and their cryptic 'if we don't hit target, we'll make an announcement in the week' comment makes me thing that that's going to be the case.
Worse case scenario? I get my thirty quid back.
Over to you Matty…
Note to self: check out Comicazi this weekend… or maybe not since I'm moving next week too.
Poe – does this mean we'll stop shopping at the same stores finally? I'm always afraid I'll run into you at Target or Toys "R" Us.
