Four years of PGPoA! + A Fairly Big Announcement

Today marks PGPoA’s fourth anniversary. It’s hard to believe I’ve actually kept this blog going so long–generally my projects peter out after a few months, at best. I’m not sure what can account for the longevity except that I evidently really, really like toys.

As I’m sure you’re aware, 2011 was something of a tough year. I spent a lot of the year considering quitting the blog entirely, even going so far as to write the post where I announced it, but something kept holding me back. The time I’d invested into it, the positive comments of the readers whenever I pondered aloud the possibility of quitting–all of these things have kept me going. At this point, the biggest problem I’m running into is finding time to write.

So of course, why not compound that problem by starting a new blog?

Another thing I’ve often considered is broadening PGPoA’s scope to embrace other, non-toy topics. I decided I preferred to keep PGPoA’s laserlike focus on the toy collector niche. However, I’m desperate to write about something other than plastic playthings, and so I give you:

Poe Ghostal Unpegged!

PGU, as I’ve taken to calling it (at least until I found my own university), will be the place where I can ruminate about geeky topics unrelated to toys–movies, comics, videogames, books, and so forth. I’m not looking to set the world on fire, I just need an outlet for my thoughts on Christmas action movies and my thoughts on the IDW Godzilla comics. Down the line I may look for ways to integrate the two blogs more closely, but for now, PGPoA will remain focused entirely on toys, while you can go to PGU for everything else geek.

  1. Congrats on the four years, like others said though, why not just include the new blogs stuff on this one?

  2. 3B

    Congrats and keep it going!

  3. Awesome! Now blog twice as much! Faster!

  4. Mario

Congrats Sir, & here's hoping for 4 more!

  5. I welcome the "The Robot's Pajamas" of Poe Ghostal. hah

    Congrats.

Congrats on the 4 years, I checked out PGU this morning. Looks nice. I understand the quandary you were in. I was lucky that I just said from the getgo that Infinite Hollywood would be an amalgamation of crap, so I could post whatever I wanted. I know that you've toyed with the idea for a while now, but you've always wanted to keep PGPOA "true" to it's roots. Hopefully you find a happy medium. In the meantime, anniversary party!

  7. Four years, huh? I must have been following you for most of that, which begs the question again: how and when and where did I discover this damn site?

Also, I had the opposite experience; I had a long-running pop cultural/autobiographical blog, and once I discovered the photography aspect of toy collecting I had to start a toy blog before toys consumed my regular blog. Of course, I've long-since deleted both those blogs…

Finally, I refuse to support your new site with a comment… on accounta I've ever seen Die Hard 2.

    • Which is to say I've NEVER seen it.

      Ugh.

See, I'd only spoil your new site with typos…

    • Newton Gimmick

      Geek Creek FTW!

    • Thinking about it… Poe started leaving comments on Toy Bender before he started this site. Holy crap… toy bender was over 4 years ago?! Damn!

So Unpegged will be like Topless Robot, but with less blind, irrational nerd rage?

    Sign me up!

Congrats on the 4 years! I agree that adding the non-toy related stuff here would have been fine, but I enjoy reading your work, so I suppose it doesn't really matter where it's located.

Congrats of 4 years man, i’ve been comin here for maybe 2, and quite honestly my favorite thing to read is your odds ‘n ends, but i also really enjoy the reviews and pics of the day, among other features you run. So i am glad your not closin the blog, but i am definitely lookin foward to the new site and new thoughts of yours on non toy geekyness

    Perfect title.

I do hope PGPoA will get regular attention. I really miss your frequent reviews.

Congratulations! I am grateful that you decided to keep this blog because it adds value. Your comments/thoughts on toy industry are insightful and your reviews are a must read (at least for me). I am looking forward to your new blog and judging by the first entry, it will be a blast 🙂

Congrats on 4 years Poe. It has been a good run.

I like the idea of your new site, but am surprised you are just not adding that content to your already established site. I don't think anyone would have an issue with that….the more posts the better, even if they are not specifically about toys.

Either way, I look forward to it.

I would read your new blog. Up until now I thought I was the only one who had a "Christmas Action Movie" list….
And your MOTUC reviews often helped me decide on weather or not a figure was worth buying. It usually was.
