MOTUC Bio Discussion #62 > Spikor

Inspired by He-Man.org’s Roast Gooble Dinner podcast, welcome to PGPoA’s latest MOTUC Bio Discussion!

Spikor

Real Name: Kleffton

Originally a blacksmith from the Eternian village of Nordling, Kleffton was fused with an enchanted suit of spiked armor and a mystic trident when he attempted to steal a sacred scroll from the city’s high priests. Banished from his home, Kleffton became an outcast, wandering into the Sands of Time. He was discovered by Skeletor, who saw his natural talent to forget weapons and recruited him to battle against the Snake Men. Now called Spikor, he serves Skeletor by creating new arms and armor for the Overlord of Evil. Spikor uses his spike-studded body and trident arm as might weapons!

“Kleffton”?

Spikor was established as a blacksmith in the original minicomic “The Terror Claws Strike” (he actually created Skeletor’s Terror Claws). Of course in the Filmation series he was an idiot, perhaps the most idiotic of all Skeletor’s henchmen, which is really saying something.

His hometown, Nordling, is a reference to Lee Nordling, who edited many of the original minicomics; but your guess is as good as mine as to what the heck “Kleffton” is.

Spikor’s origin strikes me as uninspired – how exactly did stealing a sacred scroll cause him to be fused with an enchanted suit of armor and give him a trident-arm? Is this one of those UK comics stories?

I don't see it as making him more effective so to speak… The armor would be protective sure, but I imagine the real danger of Spikor could be that someone gets a raw deal, has a constant reminder of it, turns his hatred inward, lets it build for years, and then turns it outward. The trident would be a weapon that forged and during battle was "disarmed" (pun) and decided he liked the trident enough to fasten it to his arm.

…so…let's drive the criminally-inclined guy crazy…? I will cop to overthinking things, but I just don't see a way around this particular setup that doesn't come off as…let's say "not well thought-out".

I'll give you that. I know this was originally a kid show but I never liked the idea that all the villains had the exact same motivation. Thought this would be a nice way to mix it up. 😀

  2. Miss Kleffton! Miss Kleffton! Miss Kleffton! … Miss Kleffton! MISS KLEFFTON! MISS KLEFFTON! MISS KLEFFTON!

They should just drop the real names.

It's um… Cursed armor. Yeah, and the curse is all teh spikes keep people from ever being close to you. (Literally and figuratively.)
Let's see if we can make this work.
"Kleffton" – A simple unimpressive average man that made his living as a blacksmith, could not seem to catch the attention of a certain young lady he had seen about. He sought out the sacred scroll hoping to attain something – knowledge, power, skill – anything that would make him stand out amongst his peers and win the heart of the young lady. One of the priests noticed him and began to alert the others. In a panic, Kleffton grabbed a weapon from the wall and killed the priest. He was caught shortly after and the high priest cursed Kleffton, fusing him to a suit of spiked armor from a demon slain years before. Unable to walk the streets of his home village without causing fear and panic, Kleffton went into self exile – his self loathing turning his soul bitter and reflecting his visage. Wandering the Sands of Time for a while, he was discovered by Skeletor and offered a place among his evil warriors as Spikor. Kleffton might have refused him, if not for another chance to win the heart of the young lady – now known as Evil Lyn.

    There. How's that?

That's better, but…yeah, there still the whole "Let's punish this wannabe criminal guy by giving him the means to become a more effective criminal" thing going on.

  5. Eh, it's not all that illogical compared to most of Eternia.

I don't know…"Kleffton" kinda fits in with some of the nonsense Filmation character names.

As for the rest…so…in punishment for trying to steal a sacred item, he was fused with a powerful armor and weapon? Um…oh noes? I guess? Wouldn't that be kinda like if someone was caught holding up a 7-11 and, instead of sending him to jail, we strapped him into a kevlar vest and superglued a big gun to his hand…?
