Bad News and Good News

The bad news is, it looks like I won’t be able to afford to go to New York Comic Con this year. A huge bummer, I know. I’m hoping to work out a press rep for PGPoA, however.

The good news – at least for me – is that there will be a new S.H.MonsterArts figure on display (hopefully), based on this forum post by Bluefin Tamashii Nations rep Derringer:

We’re gonna have new monsters unveiled for NYCC in October. Hopefully the licensing for the 1st Western monsterArts figure will also be done by then so we can show off the prototype  :)

First Western monster? While King Kong would be awesome, I’ll admit in my heart of hearts I’m hoping it’s the Gillman from Creature from the Black Lagoon. Both names have been floated in the polls Tamashii Nations has run.

I know I’ve talked a lot of talk about S.H.MonsterArts here on the blog but not walked any of the walk. That will change in a big way next month. You want reviews? You will have reviews, my friends. There will be reviews. And, it being Halloween’s month and all, maybe a little blood.

…but mostly reviews.

  • I know I'm in the minority, but I hope it's Zilla… *pelted with rocks*

    • *doing the pelting*

I kid! Actually I wouldn't totally hate this figure. I've got one of the old Trendmasters figures from that movie that I'm fond of. I just think of Zilla as just another monster in the franchise – he's not Godzilla, but he's part of his coterie.

      • Yeah, Zilla is a cool monster in his own right, he's just not Godzilla. And besides, "The movie was crap, but the monster was awesome" describes what, 90% of kaiju movies?

      • Y'know, that's probably why I have a soft spot for him, I used to own the Living Godzilla from Trendmasters, and still to this day want an Ultimate Godzilla (no go, Wife will kill me). After seeing that King Ghidorah, I feel regretful about having sold the initial Goji to pay a bill, :(

  • did they say "western" in the press release? and not "american?" cuz if they didn't say american, i would wager it's drac or frankie… western, not american. kong and gills are american as apple pie baby.

    • I doubt it's Dracula – they'd have to pony up for both Universal and Bela's likeness rights. Frankenstein is more possible, but he's been done to death.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were Alien or Predator, despite their absolute saturation of both the American and Japanese marketplaces (NECA, Revoltech, Hot Toys, etc.) And both would tempt me, but ultimately I'd probably have to save my money for the Godzilla stuff.

      Probably.

Although an SHMA Alien/Predator might be the perfect 6" action figures of those characters…
