Please welcome PGPoA’s newest sponsor, Collector-ActionFigures.com, also known as DASH. Their website allows you to track your collection, communicate with other collectors, list your wants and offer your own items for sale or trade. They’re still growing (i.e., not every action figure is in the database yet, but they’re already quite comprehensive), and every new user can help add to its database of figures.
More information and contest details after the jump.
It has a number of features that allow you to share your collection. I’ve started using DASH myself, and I’ll report back on that once I’ve used it for a while. They’re already looking to adding more features and are always happy to receive feedback and suggestions.
One thing that intrigues me about DASH is the want/sell options. From what I can tell (and please correct me if I’m wrong), eCRATER hasn’t proven to be a very good alternative to eBay for toy sellers because with eCrater, everyone is their own store, and therefore responsible for their own marketing. I don’t know how selling on Amazon works, but I have to imagine it’s not something worth doing if you just have a handful of toys you want to sell. If DASH can achieve a critical mass of users, it could become a viable alternative to high eBay fees and low eCrater visibility.
Anyway, enough rambling from me. DASH has an awesome contest going, so I’ll let them take it from here.

That is some dithered text!
DASH is really racking up the sponsorships (or, they being the one who is sponsoring, therefor they are being racked up as a sponsor… I guess).
Reminds me of Figure of the Day in terms of the giveaways and all the sponsorship sites. That didn't turn out so well.
Who's behind DASH? Is it someone from Figures.com? Are there any new action figure people? Everyone has a history and used to work for this site or that magazine it seems.
FOTD did a few contests, but they never offered ad money to me or, as far as I know, anyone else.
As for FOTD "not turning out well," I don't think that's related to the contests or anything. How many new retailers close within the first year or two? More importantly, as far as I know, FOTD didn't screw anyone or anything – they just closed on their own.
Anyway, DASH approached me for an ad, and after looking over their site I saw no reason to turn them down. I do like the idea behind what they're trying to do. Whether they'll be able to do it – that's up to them.
Hey Paul,
Corey from DASH here. Collector-ActionFigures is a part of CollectorDASH (http://www.collectordash.com), a company designed to provide and execute collection management software. Action Figures is one of the initial markets being targeted (along with model trains), because of the strong collector focus. There is no affiliation with Figures.com, or anyone else for that matter. Much like the cheese, DASH stands alone.
All that said, I'm the action figure nerd they brought on board to make it a community. I used to run Articulated Discussion, spent some time running the Past Generation Toys Blog, and also currently write for About.com Action Figures. My job is to keep it fun while everyone manages their collections and buys and sells.
We're happy to hear feedback about the site, contest, or anything else in the toy world. You're right that we're casting a pretty wide net, because we have a lot of great changes coming to the site, and we want people to enjoy it.
Hope you enjoy your membership, and hope that background check helped out!
THE CHEESE STANDS ALONE!
I registered for DASH and activated my account! I'm most excited by the marketplace feature — I haven't sold on eBay in nearly a year, I was just turned off by all the fees & hassle.
I'm in, could be good!
Gotta call ya on the ecrater matter. I do VERY well over there but, like anything else, you get what you put in. It seems like everyone is trying to ger into the collector marketplace, but it’s not easy for a reason. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is. I wish the DASH guys success, but Wizard ruined me for online databases. It’s all fun and games until the site shuts down, which is exactly what happened with Wizard’s Collector Portfolios
Hey Will – having ordered from you, I can vouch for your success! But I think that the effort you put in may be more than most collectors can or want to. That said, they might have one or two items they don't want that someone else is dying to find…I think that's the advantage I see in a set-up like DASH.
That said, you're totally right that many sites have tried and failed at this. But we'll just have to see how it goes.
