Fwoosh has 6″ Public Enemies and Webstor first looks

The well-connected folks at Fwoosh have posted first looks of Mattel’s 6″ Public Enemies and Webstor. First off, Fwoosh–and I think I speak for all toy collectors, but particularly those of us who wile away our time writing blogs about toys and secretly but arrogantly think we deserve some sort of compensation for all the free publicity and yet are ignored like–wait, where the hell was I going with this? Oh yeah, Fwoosh: you go to hell. You go to hell and you die for getting all these weeks-early free samples to taunt us with.

There, now I feel better. Moving on…

Public Enemies – The re-use of the DCUC-style bodies on this “stylized” line really highlights the cheapness of the technique. The animated-style heads plopped on the comic book-style bodies just looks weird. Plus, I think this is yet another case where something in the head sculpt was seriously lost in production–particularly on Superman and Icicle. I like the packaging, though. And it’s nice to see Superman finally get a brighter shade of blue.

I spent quite a bit of time clamoring for a DCUC-style Batman with a pouch belt and the black bat symbol, and this one would only require a simple head-swap with the upcoming All-Star Batman to fit that description, and yet…now that I’m not so close to DCUC anymore, I’ve realized I’m pretty happy with the DC Super Heroes black-and-gray Bats.

Webstor: So Mattel will be selling Webstor in their webstore, eh? Hahaha…sigh.

I must admit, Webstor is the first MOTUC figure I am completely lukewarm on (kind of funny that he’s the first subscription figure…haha, sigh). But I never had Webstor as a kid, so I have no nostalgic attachment to him (string or otherwise). Also, for some reason, he’s striking me as the most generic MOTUC figure we’ve had since He-Man himself (which is silly, since he has a cool inhuman head and that awesome backpack). I’m sure I’ll like him more once I have him in my hands, but I’m looking forward to Teela and Scare-Glow a lot more at the moment.

    You tell em Poe.

I'm in for a sub so Webstor will be coming my way anyway (in theory, if it all works) but I kind of agree that I have zero nostalgic attachment to him and despite looking all dark and mysterious he doesn't actually have much in the way of visual grab. Anyway, I'll judge when I get it.

The PE figures – what were they thinking/drinking?

Please tell me the 4H didn't sculpt that Superman……

@americanhyena: Yep, hated Black Lightning's costume before the latest cool one he has now. And the Wave 5 reissue teasing continues……..Frakk it all…!

    @americanhyena

I noticed that also. I suspect this the "fix" the factories are doing to insure there wasn't going to be any stuck or snapped off joints after we raised hell about it to Mattel between DCUC 3 and 5.

The Batman headswap I think would be awesome, and as long as the skin tone matches the supes would be cool too, as I really like that lighter shade of blue. It's similar to the original color they showed mullet Superman having in early pics. I dig the Black Lightning, way more than the Wave 5 version as well as Major Force, who was always cartoony anyway, but that Icicle's going to be a tough sell with that nose.

One thing about the new bucks I do notice. There's a large gap between the thighs and the bottom of the crotch piece. It's really noticeable on Icicle in those pictures because of the white background.

I'm totally head-swapping Batman. Silver Banshee will fit into DCUC and I like the designs of Major Force and Icicle so I'll suck it up and pick up Black Lightning (am I the only one that really hates the design on that figure?) and Superman to get Brimstone (who also will fit into DCUC no problem I think).

I prefer the PE Superman to the Batman, actually — at least his head fits on his neck! The Batman head just looks huge sitting up there like that.

And I seriously think the folks writing those columns are being overly charitable so as not to anger Mattel, because I'm looking at these group shots and, really, new buck body my ass. Even if it is new, it looks exactly like the old one. Meh.

i think it's awesome that webstor just passed faker as your "most generic" MOTUC fig to date poe… what short memories we have!

seriously though, i think you'll dig all day once you bust out that backpack. i LOVED playing w/ that thing, and once mine broke, webstor fell down in the rankings quite a bit… let's hope we get more time on this new one. but the legs are a great add on… i look forward to skellie's assassin!!

PE bats is passable… as in, "i'll pass" but PE supes… ugh… i think i just went sterile.

found wave 9 today at local TRU. No Green Arrow, Black Canary, or Wildcat, and only th Kirby Mantis, but Fwoosh now has the Wave 10 figures up too. If PE and Wave 10 come out soon, I know I can't keep up.

The only Public Enemies figure I think I'll get is Silver Banshee as she is the only one I think will fit into my DCUC collection. (Of course my anger is building as I'm still missing wave 8 while my local stores have restocked with……wave 6)

I'm just glad that Matty decided to go heavy on the villains in the first year of MOTUC. I think the villains are much stronger characters and more visually interesting than a lot of the heroes.

That said, I'm looking forward to Randor and Adora. I had a Randor as a kid. I got him for Christmas, along with several other MOTU characters including Sorceress and Extendar. It was a big deal for me to get brand new MOTU figures, and not hand-me-downs or from the second hand toy shop in town.

  12. Poe… Absolutely. 😀

    LOL.

  13. Fengschwing

The PE figures are a bit meh but I want the collect and connect. Bugger.

  14. Templar

I have absolutely NO problems with the PE Bats figure, another must-have in my book. Yeah, the odd eyebrows & hair sculpt on Supes (based on the anime-inspired style of Ed McGuinness) are gonna take some getting used to….STILL, I'd love to see the PE version of Captain Marvel's head sculpt – it should hopefully be a huge improvement on the disappointing DCUC Shazam head sculpt from Wave 6!

  15. The Flash III

Yes, screw Fwoosh and AFI. I guess you have to be in bed with Mattel to get a deal like that.

I had Webstor as a kid, but don't want to collect MOTUC, so I'll be happy with the memories.

The only Public Enemies figures I liked were Black Lightning and Brimstone, who is the C&C, so I'll never get him.

  16. Frogster

Webstor was always one of my childhood faves. I can't wait to get him. I love the MOTU villains especially Beastman, Trapjaw, and Whiplash. I never thought we would get both Hordak and Webby in the first year of MOTUC. Scareglow will be icing on the cake in Nov.

  17. You guys are nuts. Maybe it's because I'm a fan of animated looks, but that Superman blows away any previous ones. Love that head sculpt.

The Superman & Batman will become my default versions of the characters. Not so sure about the villains but I can always supplement some DCUC villains to fight them.

  18. finkrod

The PE figures look bad. Real bad.

I'm looking forward to Webby. I like the indigo coloring and the face sculpt is tight. The ranks of my villainous horde grows by the month! I don't know what I'm gonna do when the two stinkbombs(Randor & Princess Whatshername) in the subscription drop though. Maybe see if I can trade em, I guess.

    Webstor in their webstore

I was wondering when someone was going to use that joke. I remember when Webstore, er, Webstor was first announced I was really excited, then again, I've been really excited for most of the releases anyways. Now that we've got a better look further down the horizon he just doesn't seem quite so exciting.

I had Webstor as a kid, but I got him from a second hand toy shop and his backpack was broken. He was never one of my favorite villains, I'm probably more excited for Tri-Klops or Trap Jaw than I am Webby.

The Public Enemies just look kinda silly, especially the Superman. I may add PE Bats to my growing Batman collection, but I need to take a closer look at him first.

  20. RageTreb

That's funny, because Webstor is my most-desired figure since Hordak. I love creepy crawly monsters. Granted, the legs on the backpack are a huge selling point. No sense in having a spider character if you're not going to actually give him spider attributes.
