Happy Adora Day!

Here’s the link to the all-in-one sale page.

I’ll admit it–Adora is the first MOTUC figure I’m pretty lukewarm about. I never watched She-Ra as a kid, so Adora is even less interesting to me than She-Ra. That said, I don’t regret having bought the subscription, and I certainly don’t begrudge She-Ra fans (like Rob of Topless Robot) their long-overdue Adora. And as a completionist on this line (so far), I’m buying her no matter what.

Fortunately, she’ll be followed next month by Battle Cat and Trap Jaw, who look to be the finest examples of MOTUC figure to date. And she also comes at the same time as Battle Armor He-Man. Oddly enough, I’m pretty excited about him. As my friends can tell you, I tend to loathe variations of characters; I just want the iconic version (Trenchcoat Hellboy, Batman minus any ridiculous armor or gear, the regular Ninja Turtles sans gimmicks or costumes, and so forth). But for whatever reason, some of He-Man’s alternate looks really appeal to me, and Battle Armor is one of them. I’ve also got my fingers crossed for an Ice Armor He-Man (on a side note, check out that link…apparently I’ve been saying I “loathe variations” for years).

But don’t forget–there’s also the reissue Beast Man and Movie Masters Harvey Dent. I’m tempted to get a new Beast Man, since my original has very loose knees, but given the odds of ending up with some other QC issue–like weak ankles, which are becoming the Achilles’ heel (HA!) of this line–I figure I’ll just stick with what I’ve got. Besides, Beast Man looks pretty good hunched over.

As for Mr. Dent, I’ll just wait for Two-Face. But for those of you who have anxiously awaited an Aaron Eckhart action figure, this is your time!

(Should I even mention the CARS exclusive? Does anyone here collect those?)

On Adora’s Sellout

Kind of amusing when people generally complain about scalpers in stores but at least some here seem supportive of BBTS scalping from Matty collector.

@misterbigbo: Don't forget, a large amount of the production run went to the subscriptions. It's likely that after the subs are taken into account, there were fewer–perhaps far fewer–Adoras than there were BA He-Man. So the sellout might not be that surprising.

It's also possible Mattel knew Adora could be a tougher sell than other figures and produced fewer Adoras (beyond the subscription numbers) than they did, say, Trap Jaws. Which is my way of saying this fast sellout of the sub figure may not happen every month.

On the other hand, it is Mattel.

I highly doubt that Adora actually "outsold" Battle Armor He-Man. I would assume that Mattel figured there wouldn't be nearly as much demand for Adora and so produced far fewer of her. Silly Mattel! When will you learn . . .

Never underestimate the power of the <del>dark side</del> females. I'm presuming Adora attracted fans of both MOTU and POP, perhaps some PoP fans that have held off on MOTUC (except for maybe Hordak) all came out in force. Also the fact that this is her first action figure incarnation. I wonder if Prince Adam will get the same reception.

I'm curious if gender had something to do with it as well, maybe more female collectors were interested in a female character, though Teela/Goddess might disprove that.

Alright, I am now officially confused about this line. I have been planning for MONTHS to make sure I could be online to get my BA He-Man and the Beastman I missed, but I never would have imagined friggin Adora would sell out first. I was as big a He-fan as any other kid (born in '76)and I can still remember my displeasure at being "tricked" into seeing the She-Ra movie. It was a chick-flick! Additionally, NONE of my friends EVER had girl action figures. We UNIVERSALLY abhorred female action figures, and I can't imagine too many more peers around the country felt differently.

So how the hell does this lady out-sell He-Man?

  6. Andrew

@PrfktTear: I would guess they have a team, because they didn't manage to get many Skeletor re-issues due to RSoDs and my order wasn't high enough to get one of the re-issues they did manage to get their hands on.

I can't seem to find the e-mail they sent me about that right now, but BBTS has to deal with RSoDs too.

  7. finkrod

I'd trade you mine, but I'm only looking for MOTUC stuff. Which, I assume, you'd be reluctant to part with.

  8. americanhyena

Well, time to start inventory on my duplicate DCUC figures in hopes of finding some good trade fodder for Adora.

  9. PrfktTear

ugh… feb is going to be like a perfect storm…

  10. finkrod

Motorthing, you bastard, I knew you'd be the one to start this war! Parademons are on route to your location as we speak. Tonight you dine IN HELL!!!

  11. Motorthing

If this is any indication next month is going to be a complete nightmare.

I'm going to have to break the emergency glass on my T-800 and send it around North America wiping out most of you just to ensure I don't get ROSDed out of a Battle-Cat. Better start now…..nothing personal.

  12. PrfktTear

How does BBTS manage to sell MOTUC? Do they have a team of people waiting to buy figures at noon just like everyone else? Or do they have a deal with Mattel?

  13. Andrew

I managed to do it now, and no RSoD. Long past noon your guys's time, so I gues that accounts for it.

But if anyone missed Adora, I'd suggest trying BBTS. They're pretty good for it. I've got most of my figures from them.

  14. JediCreeper

well.. I was lucky to get mine… I did it from my laptop, and my firefox refused to let the RSOD refresh itself, which of course, negates its purpose (I had to sit there clicking "allow" over and over) it still only took me 10 minutes or so..

next month will kill us all, trap jaw is probably my favorite villain and battle car is a must have (especially with BA he-man on the way)

    I hope I can get 2 trappys.. I need a kronis

  15. americanhyena

    *Sigh*

I overslept by an hour and missed Adora. 🙁

    Damnation.

  16. Poe

@Newton Gimmick: No, I don't think anyone's received their sub confirmation yet.

  17. Reverend Ender

Got on right at noon with my extra fast connection here at work, and . . . RSOD. For 15 minutes. UNTIL I refreshed, which Mattel said on their facebook page NOT to do, at which point I got in. Thanks Satan! I mean Mattel!

(The company who loves to hate their customers, and the customers who hate to love their toys!)

  18. Megaduce Flare

    >_< Great.

I missed getting on at noon to order her. Now I'm glad I have one on order with BBTS even though its slightly more expensive.

  19. finkrod

Are you serious? She sold out already?!? Yikes.

  20. Mario

    Adora's now "currently unavailable".

That was damn quick… I'd better get mine smooth & fancy-free.
