On Adora’s Sellout

Regarding the Adora sellout: to clarify, I definitely think they were more, possibly a lot more, total Adoras than total Battle Armor He-Men. What I was suggesting in the comments to the Adora post was that the total number of Adoras available on Mattycollector yesterday might have been exceeded by the total available BA He-Man because the entire stock of BA He-Man was available, whereas a large portion of the Adoras were taken up by the subs.

I didn’t expect BA He-Man to sell out before Adora. Actually, I didn’t think about it at all, but if you’d asked me before yesterday I would have thought Adora just as likely as BA He-Man, perhaps more so due to the subs. BA He-Man is a variant, and plenty of people already have the regular He-Man, and these figures aren’t cheap–BA He-Man has all of that working against him. (And then there’s this–which I don’t agree with, but could represent the view of some casual fans.)

What gave me–and I think many others–pause is Adora selling out within half an hour. I don’t even expect that of Trap Jaw. Battle Cat yes, but partly because I suspect he was produced in a relatively low numbers so Mattel could hedge their bets with their first larger-scale item.

I’m perfectly willing to entertain the idea that Adora is just a really popular character. Rob of Topless Robot has said Adora alone makes the entire sub worth it to him, and he even ordered an extra one (I know because I was ordering it for him).

Nope, different Rob. Poe probably knows me from Oafe.

Using the UPS reference trick my non-sub Adora and BA He-Man will be here tomorrow. Cannot wait!

I don't care about action features. As a kid, I was one of those rare few who didn't enjoy them. I mean, the spring-loaded launchers and things were ok, but I never liked squeezing a guy's legs toget so he'd rotate his torso.

I bought the Ultimate Rhino figure, and nothing disappointed me more than finding out it had an action feature that got in the way of all that articulation.

eh… i don't dcu nor motuc take the fullest advantage of the horsemen's capabilities… but that said, some of the coolest little details that we;ve gotten out of motuc i truly think we would not have having anyone but the horsemen doing the work… being fans of the franchise as they are, they do things like sculpt in tri klop's eye plates and sculpt the INTERIOR of MAA face shield that i think most other sculptors, even the really good ones, would simply not have thought to do.

but yes, i'd certainly agree that they aren't the only excellent sculptors doing figs right now, the NECA crew are infrigginsane and mezco has a certain style to their work that you can glance at and know you're peeping a mezco fig.

  4. @Kid Nicky: Finally soe one who has sense to agree with me LOL đŸ™‚

I hate buying toys online, you need to be able to go into the shops and get them.

    @Poe:

Oh,I just assumed since Bricken is such a MOTU fan. Now that I think of it though,I think he said he was skipping these because he prefers 200x MOTU.

@Kid Nicky: It's not Rob Bricken (at least, I'm pretty sure it isn't). He's much too rich and famous–well, famous anyway–to post here.

    Mario-

Appreciate things as we are fortunate to get them? It's still a product I'm paying for. (or not paying for,in this case)

    Rob (I assume Bricken)-

I totally agree. There's nothing worng at all with the concept of She-Ra or the mythos,as regular action figures they would be cool.

    Mark-

It's funny,I was thinking the same thing when watching a Thundercats episode the other day. I stopped even bothering to look for DC comics figures, what's the point of looking at the same couple pegwarmers day in and day out. It's not any fun.

I hope Thundercats,Voltron,or whatever other 80's cartoons are still left unremade end up with anyone but Mattel.

And no,I can't tell the Four Horsemen sculpted a particular figure with out being told ahead of time that they did. They aren't bad sculptors by any means, but they also aren't the only four guys in the world who can sculpt a good toy.

  8. The action features are what gave the originals their charm.

Mattel were once great and produced some of my favourite toys, but as 200X proved they are a crap company.

I hope Hasbro, Playmates, Character Options, NECA, Bandai, Jakks or any other company get the rights to the Thundercats movie figures instead of Mattel.

Also before anyone says it, NO I couldnt care about the 4H sculpting Thundercats, yes they do good work but other sculpters for different companies do work just as good.
