Any questions for Mattel?

I’m going to start submitting these two days early in order to avoid any problems, so all questions are due by 5pm Monday, September 13.

  1. The Flash III

    @Snarf! Snarf!:

Wow, you even nailed the poor grammar and spelling!

  2. Heli

Wow! I didn't even have to wait until the end of the month!

Did we ever get an answer about the Orko ears? If not, I'd kinda like to see that addressed. I think the official Mattel position on that was "hey, look at these cool new toys over here!"

  3. Snarf! Snarf!

Now for some "Matty-esque" answers to your questions:

THESE answers are just for fun, trying to get in a Matty mindsset to figure out WHAT to ask and squeeeze some info out of MC people, like Toyguru. <del>I wonder which questions will be chosen and how many will I guess correctly…</del>

@Too-Man-E-Faces: An accessory pack is a great idea, but accessories will be repaints. We can't rerelease accsessories on their own.

@DavetheBrave: We can't discuss our plans with the line so you have to stay tuned. The lack of news is due to a lack of fan interest compared to other lines like MOTUC or DCUC.

Again we can't discuss about product beyond whats available, you'll just have to wait and see.

@Novelty: The DCUC vs MOTUC 2 packs are a Toysrus exclusive. They are the ones in charge of distributing their toys. We cannot sell them on mattycollector because they are ToysRus exclusives. when they announce more locations available we'll let you know.

We cannot discuss anything about unproduced figures but, if the 12 pack sells we may reissue it later on.

An accessory pack is a great idea, but accessories will be repaints. We can't rerelease accsessories on their own.

That would be a nice way to refresh those characters later down the line if there is enough fan support for them.

We cannot talk about that, but the Final battle two pack did not have enough fan support.

Its a nice idea but we cannot discuss it at this time. If we were to sell Toy Story toys on mattycollector they would be the same toys as retail. Lotso did not have enough fan support for us to devote a full toy story line on mattycollector

@3B: While the Undertaker toy is an awesome figure, it did not have enough fan support for us to develop a whole exclusive line on mattycollector. You may see other WWE SDCC exclusive next year though.

    We're working on it

@TripleM: The DCUC team and the Hot Wheels team did not planned this. It would be a nice idea but We cannot do DCUC vehicles due to Logistics.

@misterbigbo: We already have all the bios made up to 2016. Fans may not see the big picture now, but they will somewhere around mid-2012. You'll just have to keep reading.

@dayraven: MOTUC toys are not bath toys, do we really NEED to say that you can't put Grizzlor on the slime pit?

200X style is retired. We will not do anything with anime hyper detail or mcfarland hyper detail as one mattycollector.com user calls it.

@Mose: We're aware of these QC issues and we're working on them with our vendor.

@Nik: We let the 4 horsemen decide what to do with each figure. If we added a taller stack of books it would have raised the price of the figure.

@FakeEyes22: We have the line planned all the way to 2016. We have spread out the A-list characters so that everyone may have a chance. Probably all that will be left is some of the NA Galactic Guardians to do; as long a sfans support the NA characters.

We cannot discuss about unused product or items left out due to logistics. It was a mistake that the extra head on Grizzlor was published. Toyguru will work harder to avoid another mistake like that to happen again. That extra head had too much anime hyper detail and it was retired.

@Lycor: That would be a retool and Weapons packs will only have repaints.

@busterhighman: We do not control shipping costs. It depends on the weight and size of the items. The weapons pack card is the smallest we could do so the MOC collectors could display all the pieces.

@Wyngarde: We will not be adding characters from other lines in MOTUC.

@Matt: There was not enough fan support for the B:tBatB line.

@Snarf! Snarf!: King Grayskull was not able to be shipped internationally due to the electronics in his box, but he is getting a redeco this November.

We will release non-flocked Panthor on 2011. We may release a flocked redeco further down the line.

  4. Snarf! Snarf!

Toyguru:The 2011 Panthor will not be flocked per the fan vote at SDCC 2009. We may look at doing a second Panthor down the road that is flocked, but not in 2011 for sure.

Likely if we got to a flocked Panthor it would not be part of the subscription and we would find another way to release him that way (maybe at retail, maybe as a "bonus Beast" maybe at a convention, who knows!)

IF FLOCKED Panthor is made as a con exclusive, Will he be available through Mattycollector? or will international fans be out of luck like Bronze King Grayskull and non-Flocked first release with the cool Grayskull box?

  5. Matt

Will the B:BATB Action League Atom get re-released at some point?

  6. Wyngarde

When Hasbro updated their G.I. Joe figures (Wonder where they got that idea!) they did a fun thing: They added Matt Trakker from "M.A.S.K.", another Hasbro line, as a G.I. Joe.

Will/could Mattel be taking some of there older lines and adding them in to other toys as well? I'd love to see Pulsar be added to the MOTUC family. And his blood pumping feature can be reused for Mosquitor…

  7. busterhighman

Since the accessory packs are online exclusives, any chance they can be packaged differently to save on shipping costs?

  8. Lycor

if there was ever to be a third weapons pack – could a Sword of Protection without the gem stone be considered . . . i would think that most of the MOTUC fans would love a sword for He-Man that actually twinned his sisters [and there would be no need for explanantiomn within the bios]

  9. FakeEyes22

I second Novelty's question about those specific foreign figures

This question is on behalf of several outspoken fans:
Have you considered coming to my house, rummaging around my old family photo albums and studying my early '80s Christmas morning gifts to get an idea of how to bettet shape the MOTUC line into what is clearly the definitive vision of the He-Man brand, regardless of what other fans' imposter albums would have you believe? (You can clearly see that Skeletor wields a No.2 pencil and Battle Cat has always looked
exactly like my old cat, whose helmet you managed to update quite well)

In relation to those who I lovingly mock:

    1) You've stated that the MOTUC line is roughly planned until 2016 which I assume would
complete the vintage. For clarity, and I realize this is a rough plan with no promises, and I assume it covers all of the U.S. vintage MOTU, could you give us an idea of how complete PoP and NA would be in this scenario? Some fans are counting on 100% completion of each and I may be ignorant in my assumption that the most iconic and popular characters are more like "guest stars" in MOTUC, and StagHorn isn't likely.

    2) I'm disappointed after seeing the extra Grizzlor face and learning it wasn't tooled, but I understand Grizzlor is a rather deluxe release as-is. Hate to ask, but can you tell us about any other extra 4H sculpted accessories, like the 3rd Bow head, Gorilla Grodd's accessory, or the recently rescaled Kandor, that were nixed due to cost? I'm a huge fan of the creative process, so I'm curious, and perhaps fan discussion could show if any of these ideas are worth revisiting for future releases.
I personally would buy a box of any and all unused 4H accessories from MOTUC and DCUC. Name a price.

  10. Nik

Why stack of books? Could no one come up with a better set piece? If books is a must couldn't we at least get a stack taller than the figure, or maybe a floating book on a clear stand?

Why no gloves on Egon? It would help him be a bit more different than the previous one, as SDCC Egon's slime is barely noticeable? Now I really feel like I am spending $30 on a PKE meter…

  11. Mose

The quality control on the MOTUC figures (loose ankles in particular) in the last few months have been fairly poor. Have you made any strides in correcting this?

  12. Grizzlor must be kept away from bright light, never made wet, and never, ever be fed after midnight.

  13. dayraven

is there anything we need to know about grizzlor's fur prior to getting the figure? has it been tested against static electricity, water/humidity, and aqua net? i just want to know if there are any special warning that should go w/ his fur onesie.

also, why were his paws mentioned in his bio, yet he doesn't have paw hands? wouldn't vintage style paw hands have had less anime detail than the hands we are getting?

  14. toyman2581

    @Too-Man-E-Faces:

You beat me to it! I second this question because I couldn't agree more. Now that we know figures are coming with traps, PKE meters, and awesome looking proton streams, we need a pack so that all the guys can have equipment.

  15. misterbigbo

Would you consider running a contest for fans to submit a bio for a future MOTUC figure. Mattel management could could select 5-10 and have the fans vote for the best one.

There seems to be some consternation about the bios lately, and this could prompt more interest and fan ownership of a particular character.

  16. TripleM

The Hotwheels 1:12 Batcycle & Sidecar from the 1966 Batman TV Show is absolutely gorgeous, and the DCUC Batman and Robin figures fit perfectly! The combination of this Hotwheels vehicle with the DCUC Batman (from the Gotham City 5-pack) and the upcoming Dick Grayson Robin is going to be fabulous and a focal point in my enormous DCUC collection! I think many of us would like to know if (a) this vehicle was produced with the DCUC figures in mind, and (b) if there is any chance (please, please, please!) of future DC vehicles in scale with DCUC figures being released through the Hotwheels brand. (More than anything, I would like to suggest a 1980s/Super Powers Batmobile, and also the other bat-vehicles from the 1960s TV show.)

  17. 3B

    1. Do you consider the SDCC Undertaker a success and is there a possibility of seeing more WWE exclusives at the same, awesome level as this Taker? I really enjoy that figure!

    2. The larger knee pads on some WWE figures (i.e. Triple H, Batista, and all wrestlers with the kick-pads, etc.) really restrict the leg articulation, is it possible to mold these in a softer, more flexible plastic?

  18. – The MotUC vs DCUC line is sold exclusively in Toys R Us, and that is only available in a few countries. Does Mattel have any plans to get these figures to other parts of the world (either together with Toys R Us, or online via mattycollector.com)?

    – It was announced during DCUC that there will be a Legion of Super Heroes 12-pack. Does that mean all future Legion of Super Heroes releases will be in a 12-pack, or is this a one-off only? Will there be normal individual carded Legion of Super Heroes figures in future DCUC waves?

    – At SDCC, Peter Venkman was shown with a Proton stream. Are there plans to produce a pack of these so that we can equip all our Ghostbuster figures with this accessory?

    – Does Mattel have the rights to produce foreign versions of the MotU characters, e.g. Kamo Khan or Leo Faker?

    – Whatever happened to the second wave of Avatar figures that was announced? Has the line been cancelled?

    – The mass market Toy Story 3 line had toys with very limited articulation. Would Mattel consider retooling some of these sculpts to include more articulation and selling it as a collector's line on mattycollector.com?

  19. DavetheBrave

A couple to pick from about a line nobody cares about:

1.Can we get some idea as to your plans for the DC Infinite Heroes line? There seems to be little official news on the line, especially compared to the other big lines.

2.DC Infinite Heroes recently started using new, more articulated bodies. Several characters that were done in the old style have been re-done in the new style, including Batman, Guy Gardner, and Black Adam. Is this going to be a strong trend, or just for a figure or two here and there?

  20. Too-Man-E-Faces

Will there be an accessory pack for the 6" Ghostbusters line any time soon? I'm sure many collectors would love to see some extra proton beams, PKE meters etc.
