Odds ‘n Ends > Procrastination

  • Man, I still have so much stuff to get through…reviews of Buzz-Off, King Grayskull, the Outer Space Men, the new NECA Alien vs. Predator 2-pack, the second Weapons Pak, a few Retro Action figures, and a few other surprises…
  • PGPoA was included in a list of the “Top 40 Doll Collecting Blogs” on the website OnlineCollege.org. Fellow blogger Newton Gimmick of Infinite Hollywood also made the list. I won’t bother with the whole “action figures aren’t dolls” thing, mostly because I’m not that self-deluded, and will just be happy with the publicity.
  • I haven’t updated about or even mentioned the big news that THQ picked up the general Mattel license. Of course, the only salient question for most of us is whether we’ll see a MOTU videogame. I say it’s unlikely except in a movie year, unless we’re talking some sort of XBLA game (perhaps a 2D fighter or a TMNT Arcade-style brawler?). But at least THQ didn’t say no outright, and I know for a fact there are some THQ employees who are MOTU fans and will push for a game.
  • You’re all following the daily updates about Scarabus from the Four Horsemen, right? Man, if they can get the QC on these things on par with Xetheus (as opposed to the various Ramathorr variants), they’ll be incredible action figures.
  • Speaking of the Horsemen, this looks interesting.
  • I watched Predators last night, and really enjoyed it. It’s incredibly faithful to the original film…perhaps a bit too much so, to be honest…but it’s fun and pretty well acted, and features the craziest and possibly best Laurence Fishburne performance in a career full of crazy performances. He’s come a long way since Cowboy Curtis…like 80 pounds long, I think. But still the movie wa–WHY THE HELL DID I COME ACROSS THIS WHEN DOING A SEARCH FOR COWBOY CURTIS IMAGES? What is WRONG with people?! The horror, the horror…(quick, connect that quote back to Laurence Fishburne!)

should the title of this post be

    POE-crastination??

    damn I am clever

Predators was a solid B+ for me. Laurence Fishburn's death was pretty bad and out of character for the predators though. Still a very fun movie overall.

"the horror, the horror" was a
Marlon brando line in apocalypse now, fishburnes debut screen performance. Apparently he was only 14 and lied about his age to get the part.

when do you all think the "powers that be" will recognize that video games have surpassed movies as the venue that indicates that a property has "arrived?" like, i think it's kind of pathetic that the dichotomy is still "a big movie gets a game" when the truth is, the big games are outselling and outpacing the big movies by an enormous margin. that is real, and it already is, the industry assholes just want to admit that film industry has lost. you think product placement in movies is successful? wait till coke and mickie dees put billboards up in halo stages… they won't bother w/ vince vaughn vehicles any more. and really, the ad revenue should mean free xbox live for LIFE! think about it, if microsoft allowed halo players to put a microsoft logo patch on their character, literally MILLIONS of other players would see that logo DAILY for YEARS at a stretch… that kind of ad exposure is literally impossible in any other medium.

now, it's a stream that's not getting addressed now, but in our lifetimes…

so, my point is, if THQ pumps out a game, it will almost certainly spawn a movie, even if the game is only modestly successful, because for games, modesty successful means a crapton more money in mattel's coffers than a modestly successful movie does… ask the WWE. they make their crap movies, and those make them some money, but nowhere near what their once a year (or occasionally twice a year) RvS games do. those games are gigantic revenue.

    @Doc Thomas:

Stay away, very far away from the game…I thought it was only a Europe release?

I have a PS2 Masters of the Universe game that I picked up as an ex-rental cheap many years ago, but have never played – have you heard of this? I wonder if it's any good..

  7. Predators got a bad rap, mainly because it wasn't all that scary. Personally, I prefer action over horror anyway, so I loved the hell out of that movie.

  8. – At least you got the Palace Guards in advance. 🙂 I'm curious to read your review of the 2nd Weapons Pak. I was positively surprised and gave it more points in my review than I expected.

    – Way cool! Congrats! 🙂

    – I'm already tired of the dicussions concerning a new videogame. It's definitely gonna need a new movie or at least TV show to see a game happening. If it gets made it's hopefully gonna be a GOOD game for a change.

    – I always passed on the awesome 4Hm Fantastic Exclusive figures because I can't afford all the variants. But I'm so tempted to buy the Anubos figure!

Predators was lots of fun to watch. It definitely suffers from trying to imitate the original in many ways as well as the lack of any true feeling of horror and suspense. but its fun as hell to watch.
