S.H. Figuarts is one of the coolest action figure lines from Bandai. They take characters that we all love and shove so many joints into them that it blows your mind.
So this is their version of Super Saiyan Goku, or “Super Saiyan Son Gokou” according to the packaging. I’m really happy with the sculpt of Goku, as it looks like it was ripped straight out of the manga and anime. I should also note that this version of Goku is in fact from the manga, as his colors are slightly subdued, and the orange of his jumpsuit has a more yellowish tint to it. But still, it’s cool because he am real Super Sand.
As far as articulation goes, he has pretty much every joint created by mankind. He has a couple of ball-joints in the neck, ball-swivel shoulders, bicep swivels, double-jointed elbows, double ball-jointed wrists, a ball-jointed chest, ball-jointed hips attached to a swivel (allowing you to get really high kicks and such), double-jointed knees, thigh swivels, and ball-jointed ankles. Needless to say, I could get him into any pose imaginable, and even some that were unimaginable!
The accessories that Goku comes with are pretty nice. He has two faces and three and a half pairs of hands(fists, Kamehameha! hands, splayed hands, and an instant transmission hand). I feel a little cheated that it didn’t come with any effect parts since most of the other DBZ Figuarts now come with bonus parts and things. I would love to pose Goku shooting off a Kamehameha Wave or something.
But you CAN use his optional parts to simulate the world’s reaction to Miley Cyrus’s VMA performance.
Now that that’s over, let’s take a moment to check out the faces. I really wish there were a bit more variety here.
Still, the faces look really nice. There’s a calm-yet-angry face and an angry-yet-even-more-angry face. I kinda wish they would have added at least one extra face with him smiling or something, but I guess you’re not allowed to have a personality when you have blonde spiky hair.
Of course, it is kind of funny to have him wearing his angry face doing things that don’t make sense.
All in all, I’d recommend S.S. Goku to pretty much anyone who loves toys and Dragon Ball Z! He’s really fun to play with, and I love setting up battle scenes with other toys!
