Here’s your bi-monthly Ask Mattel roundup. I’ll update it with any more that pop up.
Interesting tidbits:
Kastor: With the next Matty Collector DCUC 2 pack coming in only a few weeks, are there any hints about the third 2 pack for the line? A guy and a girl? Hero and Villain? A theme to the pack?
Matty: The next pack will be two villains!
That’s cool. Here’s hoping for two Flash foes–maybe Heat Wave and Mirror Master?
Highly geeky but interesting question:
“Where, in the case of Golden Age characters, where the printing process was limited to the colour palette available will you be using those colours or colours that are more faithful to the characters themselves as they were intended to be depicted eg. ‘Muted’ green Sandman, Black Caped Batman, A Maroon Tunic on Doc Midnite – you know what I mean…”
Yes, this is something we will look into when we get to some key golden age characters!
Moving on:
1. First, a question about DC Universe Classics 7 – the classic and modern variants of Booster Gold that we’ve seen released have the same coloring on the wrist bands (blue) and gloves (gold). In modern comics, most art has those colors reversed – gold wrist bands and blue gloves. Is the action figure color selection a design choice, and what are the chances we can see a running change for the modern figure?
All of our decos are based on the DC Comics approved colors. And as you stated, comic books tend to change some color details issue by issue sometimes. We will look into new decos if we re-release Booster in the future.
Ah, but the early Hong Kong production samples had the blue gloves. This was a production error, and Mattel basically admits that with the “looking into new decos” line.
3. As for the Ghostbusters exclusive announcement, it looks like Spengler has been slimed. Is this deco an exclusive for San Diego, or is this *the* Spengler that we’ll be getting in the Ghostbusters line? Will this figure (or a non-slimed Spengler) also be available on MattyCollector.com after the show?
Yes, this deco is for the convention and as with all of our SDCC product [except Gleek –PG], it will be available online shortly after the show. We do have another non slimed Egon with a PKE meter coming down the line, but since Mr. Ramis was the first actor to sign for likeness rights, his is the first figure in the line. He is slimed to make it special for SDCC (and since he comes with Slimer!)
Wait, what? There will be a non-slimed Egon “coming down the line”? So this will be the standard Egon for now? And the only way to get Slimer?
I–and pretty much everyone else–had just assumed the first “regular” Ghostbusters release would be a non-slimed Egon with Slimer. Apparently this may be the only way to get Slimer.
And finally, some tidbits about He-Ro (ActionFigurePics had a really great first-time round here).
2. Now onto a question about one of the San Diego Comic Con exclusives you announced on 4/1. How did you go about selecting He-Ro as the MOTU Classics exclusive? What else can you tell us about his magic staff?
We selected He-Ro because we knew he was one of the most fan demanded characters whom has never had a figure made before (at least in this case one that was never produced). Also, Toy Guru is a huge fan of He-Ro and wanted to get him out there in year 1 since, quite frankly, he wanted a He-Ro figure for his desk!
The magical staff is 5 inches in length, painted gold and contains a colored Spell Stone. The staff can close up to conceal the Spell Stone and that is how it will be packaged. There will be three different colors of Spell Stones all blind packed with green by far being the most common. These will be available in both the version sold online and at the show.
We’ll have more details about this as we get closer to the show.
See, now there’s a variant I don’t mind. Stone colors are all the same to me.
