My S.H.MonsterArts Alien Warrior review is up at CollectionDX

This has to be one of the busiest weekends ever for PGPoA. Usually I take weekends off. And I even skipped some news, like the new Jetfire and Unnamed One leaks.

Anyway, my review of the S.H.MonsterArts Alien Warrior from Alien vs. Predator has been posted on CollectionDX. (The reason it’s up over there is because it was a sample provided by Bluefin via my CDX connections, and part of my agreement with CDX is that any samples I get from their connections I review over there.)

Short version: great sculpt, fantastic articulation, joints are a little loose, figure is a tad on the small side, possibly my favorite Alien toy of all time.

Tamashii Nations creating some badass effects parts for your figures

Tamashii Nations, Bandai’s collector-focused brand responsible for such lines as S.H.Figuarts, S.H.MonsterArts, Super Robot Chogokin and the like, have revealed some very cool effects parts for their action figure lines. These are designed for the 6″ S.H.Figuarts line, but obviously they can work with a lot of lines in that scale. There are four items:

02-noscale

A “crater” effect for that common anime trope where a powerful character crashes into the ground. It splits into two parts, a smaller crater and a larger one. That Kamen Rider guy is rocking the Red Iron in the center there.

Hi-Res S.H.MonsterArts Biollante Photos

Bluefin sends along some hi-res photos of S.H.MonsterArts Biollante. This mother is going to be HUGE. Word is, the light-up…thing in the torso will be controlled by remote.

In related news, the “BioGoji” (Godzilla as he appeared in Godzilla vs. Biollante) figure that’s often popped up alongside the SHMA Biollante has been confirmed as a prototype for the line, though if/when he’ll actually be produced as a figure is up in the air. Still, if they can commit to Biollante, I’m betting we’ll see a BioGoji sometime next year. It’s my favorite Heisei suit, so I’ve got my fingers crossed.

New Pics of S.H.MonsterArts King Kong

SHM ______ 05

Bluefin Distribution has sent along some photos of S.H.MonsterArts King Kong. He’s due out around April, and will cost 5,775 yen ($67.44).

I have mixed feelings about this figure. I wasn’t a big fan of the Peter Jackson version this figure is based on, but my reasons for not liking it had nothing to do with the creature designs – those were great. The film was just way too long, overwrought, and in scenes like the disgusting ravine attack by the giant insects and worms, overindulgent.

Nonetheless, the Kong design was great and this figure is a must-buy for me. You can read more about the figure here. Pics after the jump!
