Sightings > Disney in talks to buy Hasbro?

Here’s some new grist for the rumor mill, courtesy MTV Geek: Disney may be in talks to buy Hasbro, thereby picking up some big brands like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and My Little Pony.

It’s just a rumor at this point, but does anyone else think – if this turns out to be at all true – that it’s all happening a little too fast? First Disney buys Marvel, then Lucasfilm, and now Hasbro? The crossover fan in me (and I’m a big crossover fan – it’s my weakness) is imagining all sorts of cool possibilities, but as someone who’s skeptical that giant corporations are a good thing for the world in general, the idea of one company owning so many different geek properties is vaguely troubling to me. What do you think? Would this be a good or bad thing?

Poe’s Review > is at ItsAllTrue? Wha-huh?

That’s right! Rather than rewarding my loyal readers who have been patiently waiting for new reviews here at PGPoA, I have posted my latest review over at IAT! This is mainly just a way to help NoisyDvL5 out. But I think it’s definitely worth a read, particularly because it’s a review of a line I don’t often collect:

PoeGhostal.com Review: G.I. Joe Zombie Viper

The review is important for a couple reasons:

1.) I reveal one of my new contributing photographers – none other than the great Ed Speir IV! Ed will also be doing the photos for my MOTUC reviews moving forward.

2.) I also reveal my big plan for October – and it’s reviews, reviews, reviews in what I’m calling, in honor of my childhood love of WLVI 56’s Creature Double Feature, Creature Feature Month!

Toy Aisle Trolls > Leechhead

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe@poeghostal.com.

Found this at my local TRU. The troll swapped out the red ninja and replaced it with an old Beachhead. I know that it seems like everyone is a ninja, but this is taking it a bit far. Correct one is on top, swapped is the bottom.

Toy Aisle Trolls > Ninja? No. Dance Machine? Hells yeah!

I have no idea what’s wrong with the figures in this package, but I’ll take Meister Shake‘s word that it’s an example of a TAT. What I love about it is how the guy on the right is BUSTIN’. Snake Eyes and the other dude are all stiff, but that man is getting down with his bad self and doesn’t care who knows it. I respect that. Shine on, guy.

G.I. Joe: Retraction

...body massage? Anyone?

In what has to be one of the strangest movie-related moves I can remember, Paramount has decided to push back G.I. Joe: Retaliation nearly a full year, to March 2013. The press release claims the delay is because Paramount suddenly, at nearly the literal last frigging minute, decided to redo the movie in 3D.

As Rob notes at TR, 3D does really well in foreign countries, so it’s just possible Paramount and/or Hasbro decided they could make even more money with the much-maligned post-production 3D conversion. (And for what it’s worth, the Rock’s claiming new scenes will be “designed” to take advantage of 3D.)

One thing’s for certain: very few people are buying the argument that this is being done solely to turn the movie into 3D. The studio had plenty of opportunities to make that decision and evidently passed every time – at least until Battleship sank (which anyone could have seen coming a mile away).*

Baroness, Cobra Librarian

CT writes: “This is an odd thing I found in a Tallahassee Walmart. The figure is a Baroness from the Valor v. Venom line (if I recall correctly) from several years back in the package of a Rise of Cobra Baroness. Makes no sense to me, but whatever.”
