DC Universe Tragic

I’ll admit I’ve been remiss in covering this, but Mattel’s DC toy lines are in trouble. Young Justice’s 4″ and 6″ lines have been cancelled; JLU ends this year. But what about the DC Universe 6″ lines? To quote the Magic 8-Ball, “Outlook  not so good.” (more…)

Toy Aisle Trolls > “There’s Something In That Package, And It Ain’t No Spirit Iron-Knife”

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe@poeghostal.com.

I found this one at Ross about month ago. Went back there yesterday and needless to say, it’s still there.

Found these sad sacks at a ROSS in Olympia, WA. Wreck-Gar has been swapped with an busted AT-AT and Turbo Tracks has been swapped for some random TF. Even $6.99 is too much for the trolls.

Does Mattel Hate Geeks? Ctd

Following up on yesterday’s post, a few responses from the comments:

GeneralsJoes:

Stories like this make me very thankful for the always awesome guys (and girls) at Hunter PR who handle Hasbro’s PR stuff at Toy Fair and various other conventions. I have literally NEVER had a bad experience with them, and they treat even us small potato folks with respect and courtesy.

I think many collectors make comparisons between Hasbro and Mattel, and while Hasbro has certainly made its share of missteps, I think it’s demonstrably clear the company values the fans of its brands (particularly the homegrown ones, G.I. Joe and Transformers, but also Star Wars and Marvel). Mattel inevitably suffers by this comparison, which baffles me, since they’ve made it clear they want to establish a TF/GIJ-like media franchise in Masters of the Universe. (more…)

Was looking at the Marvel figures and noticed Doc Ock was now a poorly articulated army man. When I saw two other guys like this, I started cracking up. I alerted a nearby employee and explained what was wrong and he got a good laugh out of it too.

Poest Office > New Marvel Legends Sculpts a Cut Above?

Today’s question comes from Poester TP:

Dear Poe: Do you know any of the sculptors for the new pieces in Marvel Legends 2012? It’s been all the gossip that this new wave of ML is really a cut above Hasbro’s old ML offerings, and I’d like to acknowledge credit where credit’s due. I’ve been collecting things by the 4 Horsemen in various lines for so long that’s it’s tough not knowing who sculpted the new Iron Man figure, for instance…

I checked with my contacts at Hasbro, and their response was, “We’re not set up for fan questions right now, unfortunately. We’re going to be relaunching the fan Q&A program soon, so keep an eye out! Sorry!”

So, I’m afraid I can’t answer your question quite yet, TP. Perhaps someone else out there already knows the answer?
