Pre-SDCC > Four Horsemen reveal new OSM, Symbiotech

Late last night, the Four Horsemen released pics of the early prototypes for the two figures of wave 3 of the Outer Space Men on their FANtastic Exclusive forums.

The first is Commander Comet. The character is sort of a “space angel”–with a face that makes Robert Z’Dar look like Iggy Pop.

The Horsemen’s design of the character looks great, and I suspect a lot of Glyos fans are going to be very happy with those removable wings.

As promised, exclusive to you FANtastic FANatics – here are shots of one of the Outer Space Men from wave 3 – COMMANDER COMET – THE MAN FROM VENUS!!

As we said before, this is a rough, unapproved prototype. He’s also still missing his crossbow accessory.

Mel is very serious about the look that these figures should have, and we’re certain that he’s going to come back with changes for us that are going to make these figures the best that they can possibly be!

It sounds like Mel (Birnkrant, creator of the OSM) keeps a pretty tight rein on these figures–which is certainly his prerogative.

Next up is one of my personal favorites, Mystron, “the man from Hollow Earth.” He’s basically Satan. I say, any action figure with paned hose is all right with me.

Our final sneak peek reveal of the evening – once again exclusive to all of you FANtastic FANatics!

It’s the second Outer Space Men characters from wave 3 – MYSTRON – THE MAN FROM HOLLOW EARTH!!

Again, this is a rough, unapproved prototype and he’s still missing his demon-blaster but you can definitely tell where this guy’s headed. We may turn out to be one of our favorites!

If you’re worried about limited articulation in the hips, that’s a new crotch underneath what will be a very soft PVC slip-over belt/shell. We have big plans for re-use of this crotch/slip-over shell combo in the future. Even outside the world of OSM!

Be sure to stop by booth #4045 at Comic Con to see these and LOTS of other new prototypes in person!

But wait–there’s more! The Horsemen also unveiled the revised prototypes of Symbiotech characters Tygos & Tygolith.

As promised, exclusive to all of you FANtastic FANatics (but feel free to re-post these wherever you want), it’s TYGOS & TYGOLITH!!

These two guys will be the first releases for Symbiotech, and if we can work it out, we may release a second Pygma and Goleth pair at the same time to create the first wave!

We’re extremely excited about the new Symbio-Lock articulation we’ve put into Tygos! He has ball & socket joints at the head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, and ankles!!

The back-packs and other fittings on the character’s armor are compatible with Onell Designs: Glyos pop & play system!

Not only that, but the shoulder joints have also incorporated the Glyos build system into the ball & socket joint which will allow customizers a new level of interchangeability!!

Check out the photos, let us know what you think, and if you’re at Comic Con, please be sure to come by booth #4045 to see the original, non-updated prototypes of three more Symbiotech: Pygma/Goleth pairs!

While the Horsemen created these prototypes years ago, it doesn’t hurt that blue cat creatures are IN right now.

Now I know there are already some OSM converts around here, but what do people think of Symbiotech? Of course, I’m on board for pretty much anything the Horsemen do, but it’s still a new, unproven concept, a rarity in today’s market.

  1. These are on display at SDCC and look great. So I took pics: http://www.battlegrip.com/?p=17059

  2. Knight

I had such high hopes for OSM, but unless I'm missing something, it looks like they have barely any articulation. Just because the original toys were from the 60's doesn't mean that these ones have to have that level of articulation.

Between OSM and Symbiotech, there is a part of me that wants to kick a couch over and shout, "Where was this when I was a kid!?!"

I think the folks at Onell have really begun to go past the surface on their Glyos Design system. I'm starting to wish I got on the ground floor here, but it looks like my attention has been drawn at the right moment. Some spectacular stuff here, lightning in a bottle to those who like their science fiction as pulpy as it comes.

  4. Poe

    @PrfktTear: I don't think they've announced a sale date yet.

  5. PrfktTear

I've probably missed it, but but when are OSM going to be officially released? Will they be available in retail, or are they just going to be a Store Horsemen exclusive?

  6. Dead Man Walking

OSM are horrendous, but I LOVE the big Symbiotech guy. He'll fit perfectly with my 200X Motu collection.

  7. Ben

If only my cats were that awesome…

  8. PresidentJuggernaut

I like the idea of Symbiotech, I just hope there are more varied designs than just cat guys. I'm over the anthropamorphic cat action figures for the most part, and the little one in particular bores me. I hope the next set is more for me.

  9. As scale has not been mentioned here the Pygma are 3.75" tall and Goleth are ~8" tall. These will be a must buy for me. The 4HM have said they will be an in house line so that should mean availability at store horsemen.com even the ultra rare OSM Alpha wave was pretty easy to get from there.

  10. Mecha-Shiva

Kinda miffed on the SymBiotech 90's robot arms but looking at the behind picture,it's removable!WE WANTS IT!

  11. Rustin Parr

I was never sold on Symbiotech during FANtastic, but am totally converted seeing the figures!

I especially like that incorporation of Glyos joints… I think that will help in terms of crossover and fold in some additional buyers that may have otherwise passed.

The key to Horsemen & creator owned lines is finding the right production numbers. Xetheus nailed it and was awesome, but the ramathor's were overproduced just enough to sour enthusiasm. I love the 4H and will follow them into the gates hell – so I'm in on these lines (though these are VERY underwhelming OSM's)

  12. Heli

I kept voting for Symbiotech in the FANtastic Exclusive votes, so I'm really happy to see it finally becoming a reality.

And I'm always happy to see a new toyline that's not a media tie-in. Reminds me of the good ol' days, when all kinds of random crap was on the shelves at TRU.

  13. izdawiz

    Symbiotech?

Awesome concept, incredible sculpt, perfect size (and somewhat Glyos compatible) These have WIN written all over them. Can't wait to see these guys in person.

  14. Fengschwing

I was underwhelmed by the OSM but man, those Symbiotech figures are gorgeous!

  15. Mountain-man

Wow, smart to add the glyos joints in there…this Symbiotech looks pretty sweet actually. Nice animated look.

  16. For me it's going to depend on how tough they are to buy. I like the look of the Symbiotech figures, but I don't think I can add another "pain to purchase" series to my collection.
