Action Figure Displays by JDP Design (www.actionfiguredisplays.com) has sent along a sample of their latest item–the new Christmas Display, designed for your Christmas-themed toys. I’ve featured several of their sets before: the Alley, the City, and the Dark World Castle.

AFD has upgraded their packaging–the set is now packaged in a black cardbox box. Inside the box is are the two parts of the set and instructions on how to assemble it.

The set evokes the traditional North Pole, Santa’s Village look, with a cartoon-style, snow-covered landscape. As always, AFD is great about giving a sense of depth to their scenes, even in a simple design like this. It actually looks a lot like the Rankin-Bass Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and as you can see, it looks great with any of those figures. The set is 13.5″ wide by 10.5″ tall and 7.75″ deep–tall enough for just about any Christmas action figure except the Ultimate Bumble.

I don’t know about you, but I love putting up holiday toy displays–right now I’ve got the Snow Miser and the Heat Miser together on one shelf, Rudolph & pals on the next shelf, and Frosty, the Winter Warlock and Santa hanging out on a third shelf. The Christmas Display makes a great addition to any of these set-ups, and it’s small enough that it can look good if you decide to set something up at your desk at work (which, yes, I may have done).

As always, my only complaint about these sets is that I think they need to rework the angled plastic parts so that the set can be collapsed and stored when not in use. I’ve previously suggested hinges, but it occurred to me that you could just have some tabs or pegs on the vertical part of the attachment that plug or snap in to the horizontal part. Pop them out and the set is in two pieces again, ready to be stored in that nice black box it came in.

I didn’t know about the Christmas display until the guys at AFD emailed me about it and offered the sample, but I can say with certainty that, given my love for holiday-themed displays, I would have bought it.

At $20 apiece, I know these are still going to be a bit too expensive for some people. However, AFD is offering free shipping on all U.S. orders through January 5, so if you’ve been holding off on getting one of these sets, now may be the time to give it a shot. You can visit their site here, and check out the Christmas display specifically here.
