Toy Aisle Trolls > Mean Lantern

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe AT poeghostal.com.

3B sends this in:

Writes 3B:

The GL 5pk has been in-stock at my local Walmart for about two weeks and already a troll struck! The only thing taken was the gray-templed Hal and replaced with a DC direct Hal.

Yup–straight-up theft. And yet–the only thing this jackass wanted out of that pack was “distinguished” Hal? Seriously, I just don’t get this crap sometimes. And talk about lazy–he didn’t even try to fit Hal in the box properly. May he be dropped in a vat filled with fire ants.

  1. evidently getting an older hal and some 'white-out' was too much to ask.

Even with the swapped figure, I'd still probably buy the set. Unless they were all covered with Cheeto Dust. xD

WOW, So he takes a figure you could easily make and leaves the main piece of the set? What a loser. I second the clover honey drizzle.

i like dropped in fire ants… but can i advocate drizzled in clover honey first?

I guess I've been lucky, too. I don't have very many DC Direct figures – maybe 25 or so – but the only problem I ever had with one was a loose ankle on a Martian Manhunter.

And the price difference between DCUC and DC Direct has pretty much disappeared.

I keep hearing people talk about it, but I've never had anything DC Direct break on me. Must just be lucky, I guess.

@Dead Man Walking: I believe that is all that was around at the time. And you really didn't have to worry about it breaking; most toys we sturdy back then. I do remember complaining about articulation, it was the reason why GI Joes were better to play with, though i didn't exactly care for the characters. DC Direct is also $10 more expensive than DCUC,so i get really upset when I don't even move the DC Direct statues, and they still end up broken from the times they fall because of poor balance.

I really like that DC Direct Hal, too.

Sure- DC Direct stuff can be fragile… But it's not like Mattel products are shining examples of durability. And DC Direct is aimed squarely at adult collectors, while Mattel still operates under the pretense that they are making this line as toys meant for kids. As an adult, I can deal with the occasional wonky joint. How many 10 year old kids know about the freezer trick? And why should they have to?

  9. Dead Man Walking

@The Flash III: As a kid, I'm sure I didn't care about articulation. I mean, I played with brick-y Transformers and 5-POA Ninja Turtles. But nicer sculpting and paint I would have noticed.

Also, I've had WAY more DCUC figures break than DCD, and I have lots of both.

@Thomas B: I guess he didn't have a spare DC Direct Guy to swap it out with. šŸ™‚

  11. The Flash III

@Dead Man Walking: If by nicer, you mean more brittle and less articulated, then you'd be correct. šŸ™‚

  12. Thomas B

that is really weird. you would think he would take the guy gardner.

To be honest, if I was a kid and I got this, I'd be like, "why is this one figure so much nicer than the rest?"
