Two-Pack Batman (Mattel, 2003)

Poe’s note: While the 2003 comic-based Batman figures were painfully under-articulated, there’s no denying they were excellently sculpted–to this day, I think a fully-articulated figure with the Zipline Batman sculpt would perhaps be the perfect Batman figure.

This particular version of Batman came from a two-pack with a forgettable Mattel-sculpted Superman. However, I find it interesting because, with the yellow symbol, lack of briefs and lines on the cowl, it presages elements of both the Batman, Incorporated design, as well as the “Brand New DC” look.

Lucky, you guys. To like this figure. This one was a "pass" for me. But it did get my attention.
Being a big World's Finest (Dick Sprang) fan, I saw this two-pack and thought: "If only they would do a better job on these figures, I'd start collecting action figures again."
After the Zip-line, they soon came out with that blue cowl and cape, brown pouched, dark grey BATMAN.
The DCSH one, I think it was. I bought that thinking: "Finally, somebody is trying to make a quality BATMAN!!"
    And I was "in".!!
But I passed on the Zip-line BATMAN, SUPERMAN, ROBIN stuff. I'm not sure I'm sorry.
After seeing your posts, maybe I did pass a good thing. I'm still not sure.

For me, I don't need a ton of articulation. Maybe a few more joints in the arms would be nice, but regardless, to this day Zipline Batman is my favorite Mattel DC figure, hands down. It's the ultimate Batman figure for me (well, ok, I want the classic blue/grey-yellow oval look, but Zipline Batman does the job for me).

  3. I've still got my Zipline Batman figure, still a fave of mine too. It was one of the first figures I bought that got me back into collecting again!

Poor Poe. 8 years later and he's still chasing the perfect Batman figure. Hell's heart I stab at thee.

This Batman is still nice. I keep the black Zipline version around since he's among the handful of Batmen that are almost great while none are perfect. I really enjoy how this figure is almost a 200X Batman, which evolved into DCUC, which in turn influenced the articulation and design of MOTUC.
