MOTUC Bio Discussion #56 > Bubble Power She-Ra

Inspired by He-Man.org’s Roast Gooble Dinner podcast, welcome to PGPoA’s latest MOTUC Bio Discussion!

She-Ra® Bio
Real Name: Adora of the House of Randor™

After crossing over from Etheria to Eternia® with the help of Light Hope, She-Ra® joined forces with her brother and the Masters of the Universe® who were caught in a four-way war with the Snake Men™, Skeletor® and Hordak®. She used her cloned sword to harmonize with and channel the Powers of Grayskull™ to form new arms and armor in the midst of battle. Her Bubble Power™ armor greatly enhances She-Ra’s stamina and allows her to funnel great fumes of energy at her foes. She remained on Eternia® to fight off evil until both she and He-Man® were called to the stars to fulfill their destiny, traveling to the Tri-Solar System to end the oppression of the Horde Empire.

Like He-Man, She-Ra can “harmonize” with the Powers [sic] of Grayskull to form new arms and armor. He-Man gets the awesome-looking Battle Armor; She-Ra gets…Bubble Powers, which allow her to funnel great “fumes” of energy (energy apparently having been transmuted into a gas at some point).

This bio does reveal a few things, though: it confirms the existence of Light Hope in the MOTUC Bio Universe (MBU) and mentions the four-way war between the Heroic Warriors, the Evil Warriors, the Snake Men and the Horde that occurs near the end of the timeline. I’m a bit unclear on how this war ends, though we know Skeletor defeats Hordak and takes off into space to conquer the Horde Empire and the universe itself.

So, some new information and a serviceable if uninspired explanation for the Bubble Powers (as it includes no mention of, y’know, bubbles).

    Love love love love love LOVE!!!!!!!!! I love this toy!!!!! I think She-Ra needs more power upgrades.I can't express what this means to me!!! I can she this She-Ra fighting along side ThunderPunch He-Man.And I hope we get starburst She-Ra!! And I love that they made it as a power/up instead of just clothes.

    Shes like a magical girl, and get clothes should justify give her new powers.

  2. "I understand wanting to better integrate the NA side of things into the MOTU tapestry, but bringing sis along for the ride takes away from the New Adventures; that being He-man's feelings of being alone and homesick."

    That's a good point. But the Bio writer(s) would have to be taking character into account in order to think of that, rather than just looking at the bios as a way to connect the various MOTU canons like a big plot puzzle.

    I've gotta agree that I think very, very few people care about the bubble powers. They should have left it in the 80's…Now Star bust She-Ra that is a different story! Just look at what BootLeg did.

    My major problems are

    1. Why is she on Eternia? Have the Horde been kicked off world? If not why did she abandon Etheria?
    2. Why is she traveling with He-Man to the Tri-solar system?
    3. Once again we take the power, purpose and struggle away from Eternia. Any "ultimate" power or destiny should always originate
    or happen from and on Eternia!

    Not Trolla
    Not the Tri-solar System
    Not Earth
    Not "the gods"
    Not another dimension

    ETERNIA!

    I understand wanting to better integrate the NA side of things into the MOTU tapestry, but bringing sis along for the ride takes away from the New Adventures; that being He-man's feelings of being alone and homesick. The role these bio's fill should be to expand, not take away from what we already know. They should leave room to grow the franchise and movie it forward I think it should read;

    "She-Ra Bio:

    After freeing Etheria from the grip of the Evil Horde, She-ra reunites with her family on Eternia. With the aid of Light Hope She harmonized the Powers of Grayskull with the Crystal Castle via her Sword and used it's transformative abilities to fashion new arms and armor to fight the divided forces of evil. Besides increased stamina, She-Ra was bestowed a new ability to funnel great fumes of energy at her foes. Tranquility returned to Eternia and She-Ra would once again leave her home world to find her missing brother who was called to the stars. Reunited in the Tri-solar system, they meet new allies and face new enemies! Once again The Twins of Power return to Eternia on which they would embrace their great destiny!"

    This way;

    Light Hope does something other then what something else (Castle Grasykull, magic trees, cosmic key, Duncan's Lab) can already do…
    The fate of Etheria, and its role in aiding the forces of good to combat the Horde.
    The New Adventures play out the way they already did (choose your own "cannon") and anything new in the bios would happen post 1991.
    She-Ra doesn't feel like an after thought, she is co-equal to her brother.
    She-Ra, while trying to find her brother has an opportunity for her own separate "new adventures". New places, weapons, charecters!
    The Horde that runs away lives to fight another day!
    Replace "happily ever after" with "and this happens next".

  4. Hey, the Bubble Lead can take out Dr. Wily! Don't underestimate those things.

    they needed to change her name… really. this line is, i know, heavily dependent on nostalgia buyers who are buying juzzed up versions of their childhood toys, but a vast majority of us were not buying she-ra and he-man, we were buying one of the other… and there is no way to sell "bubble power" to a he-man only collector. just none. they sold half the allotment for this figure based on her 2.0 body and i don't think that was an accident at all.

    even changing the name to "magic mist" or something might have come across more acceptable, story/bio wise, than bubble power. not even the thundercats are retarded enough to have a bubble power character. strictly from a bio perspective, that name is a disaster from the get go, and there's no amount of quality writing that's going to neo-back-bend their way around that bullet. so the rest is really only the icing on the turd. so yeah… we still don't really know who won the villainfest eternian showdown, because while there's a statement about skeletor winning, hordak and the horde in no way seem defeated. i have a feeling that skeletor won the crown of eternos, randor's old seat, which in the battle for the title "master of the universe" is about as significant as winning mr omaha in the bodybuilding circuit. but that all other power/authority is still under contest, and that would explain why hordak and the horde empire are still seemingly focused on… cuz everywhere EXCEPT eternos, they rule. or, they at least have an outpost. so literally everywhere, there's still room for the heroes to mop up the horde rape gardens and all try to expunge their influence.

      Well, there was the Mad Bubbler from ThunderCats.

      I think what ultimately sold this figure was the additional accessory and armor options provided, as well as the ability to ride Swiftwind. When combined with the original She-Ra, you have TONS of customization options that few characters can enjoy.
