Odds ‘n Ends > OSM, Jitsu, Armorvor, Realm of the Underworld, Predator, Portal, DC Unlimited

The Four Horsemen are once again selling holiday editions of their Outer Space Men figures. The current set includes the Cyclops, Gemini and Orbitron.

Mattel released the packaging photo and bio for Jitsu earlier this week. Evidently Jitsu runs Snake Mountain after Skeletor leaves for space, which seems kind of out of left field to me. Was this solely for the “iron fist” joke? Because his fist is golden. Says right on the bio.

The next Glyos drop has been delayed to Wednesday, December 12th at 9:30pm ET. Included will be all sorts of Travelers, Gobons and the one I’ll be nabbing, a golden Armorvor. I love the Armorvor. This one kind of reminds me of “Pimp Daddy” Skeletor.

The Realm of the Underworld independent toy line is due to be released in a few weeks. This is an action figure line developed from old Remco fantasy bodies mixed with new sculpting. The figures are priced at just $20 apiece and have interchangeable limbs. I’m interested in these – the Skeletons have a fun Harryhausen feel, while some of the other figures evoke memories of Remco’s Warrior Beasts and other barbarian-related lines.

NECA has been crushing it lately with some of their toy lines. This week they released their retailer pre-order info for Predator Series 8, which will feature two fully-articulated versions of Dutch Schaefer and a retooled, fully articulated Jungle Masked Predator with ball-jointed hips and double knees (the pic above is of the old, non-ball-jointed-hips Predator, but rest assured the figure that ships will have them). These are the Predator action figures I wanted when I was eleven years old. (Pre-order it at BBTS.) Also: GET TO THE CHOPPA.

NECA is also releasing the long-awaited figure of Chell from Valve’s Portal series of videogames. However, for some reason it’s going to be limited to 15,000 pieces worldwide. I’m trying to find out why, and will update this post if I do.

BBTS has also posted pics of DC Unlimited Series 3 (no pic of the Joker yet). I’m not along in thinking these Injustice figures are a mistake, am I? But who knows. Maybe DC has come to realize that the main way people interact with their properties is through movies and videogames, and they figure they’ll sell more toys this way. I still think better Mattel Arkham figures (sculpted by the Four Horsemen with full articulation) would be a smarter idea than these Injustice figures.

The S.H. Figuarts Perfect Cell is now in stock at BBTS and Amazon. Bluefin Tamashii has also announced the pre-order for the DBZ Vegeta (Normal Ver.), which comes with a slew of “accessories and option parts that have previously been requested by fans. In response to these requests S.H.Figuarts Vegeta will feature folded arm parts, four interchangeable hand parts as well as special interchangeable “scouter crushing” hand part, three interchangeable face parts as well as head part with scouter attached, tail parts, effect parts and special support stand for effect parts.”

I agree on the Dutch figures. I wouldn't normally by both variants, but they look so good I may have to grab both. As for the Predator… I'm so glad I've resisted the urge to pick up any of these so far. Now I can grab this new one without double dipping.

Armorvor looks amazing. Both Dutch figures look so good, and there is that muddy version coming too… Hard to choose.

i'm getting dutch, no question there… and i think he is destined to always be posed within a foot or two of jitsu, looking like he's yelling at another action figure "get too da choppa!" while gesturing towards jitsu… that is a joke that will never get old, at least not at my house.

and i'm beyond excited that i'll have a dutch to pose out w/ rambo (eventually) and robocop and some preds… my favorite action movie badasses all in one figure collection. 13 year old me is in giddy. now if we just get NECA to give us a JCVD as frank dux in bloodsport… and a chong li. holy SHIT i need a bolo yeung!!! STAT! he's the guy missing, isn't he?

we need an enter the dragon line too!!! i still have a couple bruces from the art asylum set, but they're a little dated, and tall by comparison so if NECA wanted to do new ones, great, but they're not a necessity… but come on, give me a jim kelly in all his glory, bolo yeung, and maybe, if a guy can dream, a young john saxon? i would cream my jeans…

+1 on all that shiznit. Gimme a Frank Dux “blinded by powder scream face” variant while you’re at it.

    • Mario

Oh man! That may well end up being the best variant EVER made!

    • The_Fun_has_been_Doubled

That would be the only Frank Dux figure I'd buy.

  4. WOW, that Armorvor!!!!!!

So… I guess the succession of Masters of Evil goes Horde Prime, Hordak, Skeletor… Jitsu.

Wow. Who takes over after Jitsu? Stinkor?

  5. Misterbigbo

Superman looks like he’s wearing a high-cut bathing suit bottom from the eighties. Did he beat up Cheryl Teague for it?

Jitsu is Silent but deadly… Really? I get the real name being a nod to Filmation, but it just doesn't work… I mean what kind of mother would call her son "Chopper"?

  7. AmericanHyena

I kinda like the Fisto/Snake Mountain thing.

Those may be the Predator figures that finally break me down and get me to buy them.

I’m sorry, but those DC figures are FUGLY. Superman and Darkseid are just atrocious designs and all three look like they have major proportion issues and unsightly articulation breaks (the worst offender being Aquaman’s ab crunch.)

  8. Bigbot

I think a lot of figures need to come with folded arms that can replace the normal arms (thinking mainly of Doom).

That Injustice Superman looks very weird. He has these humongous shoulders but a tiny little head. Aquaman looks like he just needed a new head and belt.

    • Superman looks kind of old, too. And he's got a buzz cut or something. The design is clearly riffing off Man of Steel, just as the Batman outfit riffs of the Dark Knight films. And is it me, or does Darkseid's head look too big?

    • I think it's more that the lower half of his body is ridiculously small. Compare it to DC Direct's and the issue becomes really clear:

    • Dead Man Walking

Darkseid is made from MOTUC parts, and oddly they did make the head too large. T-crotch or not, the DCD version destroys this one. This one looks like a bad kit-bash.

    • He really does look bad. Does anyone know whether all or any of these are 4H-sculpted?

  9. Mario

In regards to Jitsu's bio, I think the joke is actually a nod to Fisto, Iron Fist & all… & boy oh boy do I NEED those Predator figs!

NECA's been starting anew (in terms of sculpt & articulation) with their latest batch of releases, & that leaves me very hopeful for rebooted Conan, Commando, & Runnin Man lines. PLEASE NECA, DO IT!

    • I wish they'd give us a T2 Terminator with full leg articulation…and a Conan, too.

    • Dead Man Walking

I get the desire for a bunch of articulation in most figures, and super-articulation in a character like Spider-man. But the Arnie Terminators did absolutely nothing but walk and stand throughout all four films. I mean, like no crouching, no battle-stances, no kicks. I'm not saying that leg articulation wouldn't be better, but of all figures short of Professor X, I would think the Terminators least need it. Of course, if they released a motorcycle for him, that would be a different story.
