Man, did I love these toys as a kid. Maxx Steele and Hun-Dred were my favorites, but there were lots of other great ones. I wrote an article about these for ToyFare way back in issue #132.
Bastards of the Universe > “The Journey Begins!”

The Bastards set out to Eternos City…or at least the road outside the city, to get the Gem of 187 from the Golden Pharaoh. I of course had to look up the geography of Eternia, but I just assume the countryside is littered with monsters, and the corpses of monsters that crossed paths with He-Man or somebody.
In other news, it looks like Vikor won’t be visiting the Bastards in the near future…hell. There is another character, one that you may remember from the eighties, that I’m looking forward to showing up here when he’s done; but more on that later!
Toy Aisle Trolls > Tyr-ed Up

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe AT poeghostal.com.
Here’s a little number found by a buddy of Poester Epyon Enforcer.
This is a pretty classic example of a toy aisle troll–swapped out Tyr for Scorpion, and thus emperiled his immortal soul. I hope it was worth it. Pay for your toys, or don’t buy them at all.
Happy Vikor Day!

AFI has MOTU, DC, Ghostbusters previews
Keep an eye on ActionFigureInsider, because it looks like they’re going to have some pretty nice previews up soon.
- Retro-Action Jon Stewart (More like Afro-Action!)
- Courtroom Peter Venkman
- Preternia He-Man
- Panthor (who’s not even out until April)
- Bow
- Bow 2
Speaking of Bow, if you had your druthers, what would you have made his “real name” instead of Kyle Reccula? The best suggestion I saw on He-Man.org was “Bowen Fletcher,” although personally I think I’d have just named him “Flynn.”

Ask Mattel > Mid-January Answers (UPDATE: Roundup added)

1.) AmericanHyena asks: If you gave Romat-Ru unique alien hands, why did Tomar-Re, who is the same species, get human hands?
Because that is how he looked in the reference material provided. There have been many artists over the years who have interpreted DC characters. DCUC is the Mattel/Four Horsemen interpretation.
2.) Mosh asks: What happened to the double articulation on Kyle Rayner? The proto showed double joints on a basic body which could have been the new mold for future figures, did you already ditch that idea? (more…)

Bastards of the Universe > “Battle Plan”

I needed to print a map of Eternia for this one, and the first good one I found? Here, of course! I thought Eternia was way bigger than the map made it seem, though. I suppose the Eternia in my head, the home of the Bastards, is bigger and includes Crystalium, Third Earth, the Savage Land, the Barren Earth, Skartaris, Barsoom…a hodgepodge of semi-medieval whatnot and monsters, then.
I don’t suppose anyone has any idea what, if anything, the Chamblerlain is from. Found him at a yard sale, and for no apparent reason, I hear him as Dr. Gonzo from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, chock full of dubious advice and not-so-thinly veiled threats.
Conan O’Brien’s “Flaming C” – the Action Figure
A few weeks ago, Conan O’Brien got together with Bruce Timm to create the superhero “The Flaming C.” Timm & company followed it up by replacing Superman in a scene of Young Justice with the Flaming C. (more…)
