SDCC > Rustin Parr’s Report, Day 5
Sunday 7/26
140,000 people, 4.5 days, 1 convention – it all comes down to this.
The morning was spent re-orchestrating all of the previous buys into a somewhat manageable series of bags, you see typically we bring down large boxes to fill up but all of box army fell in battle against Recycle-Or several months hence. Once in order we checked out of the hotel, loaded up the car, then headed back down to the Hall for the final hurrah. (more…)
Poe’s Point > On the return of 6″ Marvel Legends
Marvel Legends close 1 by Carls Life
At their Marvel SDCC panel, Hasbro said that 6″ Marvel Legends would be returning “in full force” in 2012. I started to wonder why that would be, given how strongly they’ve been pushing Marvel Universe, and I’m wondering if it’s the success of DCUC that has them reconsidering. (more…)
New MOTUC bios from SDCC
A number of new MOTUC bios popped up in the course of SDCC. I’ll eventually discuss them at length in my bio discussion posts. (I actually started to write some brief responses to some of these, but since they were running longer than half my actual bio discussion posts, I decided to just save them for later.)
Roboto
Real name: Robot Model 9041Originally built by Man-At-Arms as a chess opponent for Man-E-Faces, the robot companion was nicknamed Roboto and later given a heart-shaped emotion chip which altered his speech patterns. Under the influence of his new programming, Roboto came to understand the desire for freedom and upgraded himself for battle so that he could join the Masters of the Universe in their fight against evil. Roboto serves as chief strategist for the Masters and uses his unstoppable robotic strength in heroic combat.
Grizzlor
Real Name: Gur’rull Gu’rrooowarrrkOriginally a peaceful creature from the planet Jungulia, at the young age of 428 Gur’rull was kidnapped by the Horde Empire who erased his memories so he would serve loyally in their armies. Renamed “Grizzlor” he travelled with Hec-Tor Kur to Eternia in search of He-Ro. His ferocious attacks were so frightening that even after being banished to Despondos along with his master, Grizzlor’s legend lived on becoming a myth told by young Eternian children. Prison guard for the Horde, Grizzlor is ready to unleash his fierce claws to attack the forces of Eternia.
King Grayskull
Real name: D’Vann GrayskullGrowing up under the oppressive rule of the Snake Men, D’Vann was driven to rebel against injustice when his brother was captured and eaten. Others flocked to Grayskull’s banner and his legend began to grow. Declared King for his courage, compassion, wisdom and strength, Grayskull became a great leader ruling along with his council of wise Elders. A destined guardian of the Sword of He, Grayskull magically passed his essence into the blade with his last breath – ensuring that only his heirs would now wield it and tap into the great power it harmonized with. After his death, the sword was split in two and its power transcended into a great orb inside his castle, protected by Grayskull’s devoted and loving widow.
Eternian Palace Guards
Real name: VariesFrom across the Light Hemisphere of Eternia, the bravest and most noble warriors in Randor’s kingdom were recruited by Man-At-Arms and later Clamp Champ to help guard the Royal Family. Often called upon to aid the Masters of the Universe, the royal guards are trained in multiple forms of hand-to-hand combat and are masters of many weapons including the Power Staff and several types of Energy Blasters. Whenever the Royal Palace is threatened, it is the strength of the elite guardsmen which often repels evil. Brave Palace Guards like Lieutenant Spector defend the Royal Family from attack.
Chief Carnivus
Real Name: Carnivus Fervelius IIILeader of a race of Eternian cat warriors called Qadians, Carnivus keeps his people safe high in the village of Felis Qadi. For many years the Qadians kept neutral stance, preferring not to get involved in the affairs of other tribes. But with the rise of Skeletor and the subsequent release of the Snake Men and the Horde from their inter-dimensional prisons, Carnivus agreed to re-evaluate his core principles and joined the struggle for freedom allying himself and his people with King Randor’s new Eternian Council. Carnivus uses his feline agility and great courage to fight evil.

SDCC > Rustin Parr’s Report, Day 4
Saturday 7/25
A very long day. Began with us futile-y trying to get in to Hall H for the Warner Bros panel. After realizing how pointless that was it was back to the dealer floor. Panels, especially big name panels or panels otherwise in one of the big room, are really hard to get into with the line at any given time being about 50% people for the next panel and 50% people for one later in the day, which just exacerbates the whole situation and makes it s far harder to get into panels to begin (this is why I came very close to missing the Mattypalooza panel, the line was massive and mostly people for the Marvel/Capcom panel the following the hour). Essentially, one must pick a large room and not leave in order to see the large panels. This has been a problem for several years (this is Movie Con, after all) so I’ve long since made peace with the fact that I’m not getting in to panels and that I will be able to read the news immediately online and see the movie/s themselves in a couple months. Still would have been neat to see the Avengers assemble, though. (more…)
A MOTUC Battle Ram? Plus Grayskull weapons rack & Swift Wind vote results [updated]
Not officially, no. But the Four Hoursemen have made one. According to the Horsemen (as reported on He-Man.org):
That’s ours. We created that to present to Mattel just to see what the possibilities of doing a vehicle might be. Like it? Let Mattel know & you may get it!
SDCC > Rustin Parr’s Report, Day 3
Friday 7/23
What does one do on Day 2 when the vast majority of exclusive figures on their list were acquired on Day 1? Stroll and go to Panels! And pick up the voucher pre-sale stuff from Matty, of course (incredibly painless and easy – Hasbro, et al, should take note and do the same!). (more…)
Who is Preternia Disguise He-Man, you ask?
No doubt a lot of casual MOTU fans are wondering where the heck “Preternia Disguise He-Man” comes from. The answer is the vintage minicomic “The Powers of Grayskull – The Legend Begins” (inked by Bruce “DC Animated Universe” Timm and lettered by Stan “Usagi Yojimbo” Sakai). I have to say, I think this is one figure that really needs to come with a reprint minicomic to be appreciated, and I hope Mattel has a plan for that–at the very least, they should have a nice version of the comic available on Mattycollector.
