My wife mentioned my site didn’t look any different to her, except switching to green about halfway down. It turned out she needed to clear her cache in Chrome before the new images appeared. So if the logo of Poe at the top of the blog isn’t like the one directly above, try clearing your browser’s cache (here’s how).
Sightings > Figure of the Day Closes Its Virtual Doors

Looks like Figure of the Day is closing down. No reason is given for why, but in a rather amusing gambit, they’re selling the domain name itself for $2500 (or best offer).
I ran a few contests sponsored by FOTD and always enjoyed them. They seemed like good guys to work with. I did receive some emails in the last couple of months expressing skepticism and suspicion, particularly when they were selling what they called a warehouse find of the first wave of DC Arkham Asylum figures for $300. I’m not sure what to think of that – is it really fair to criticize them for charging what the market will bear? I don’t think any retailer (not even TRU, especially lately) is under an obligation to sell items at their MSRP, especially years after they’ve been released. That said, I have no idea what the set was selling for on eBay…but I think FOTD sold out of it, which suggests they gauged the price right.
Anyway, FOTD offered many great deals and free shipping, and I got a few items off their site myself and, again, really enjoyed working with them on contests. Personally, I’m sad to see them go.
On a related note, is Thwipster ever coming back, like they promised? It’s been a while now. Might be worth looking into.

POP (and MOTU) Goes the Funko
It’s been an open secret for some time, but Funko, makers of fine pop culture merchandise, have the Masters of the Universe license. They’ve already revealed some Wacky Wobblers, which look cool but I didn’t cover because I hate bobbleheads. No offense to Funko, I just think of bobbleheads as broken toys.
But now, finally, we get our first look at the POP-style MOTU figures. He-Man, She-Ra, Skeletor, Hordak and…Spikor? Works for me! I love Spikor. I will own them all.
The pic comes from the Dallas Toy Show and was taken by a friend of Power Pal Joe Amaro, whose incredibly awesome Manta Raider goes on sale October 17.
Monsters take over Pic of the Day!
Up Soon! Paul Kaiju Custom Hedorah by geozilla
Ever wanted to get your toy photo on PGPoA’s Pic of the Day? Well, you could have done it ages ago by submitting to the Flickr group or emailing it to me directly.
But that’s not my point today – my point is that it’s Monster Month, and I want to fill it with monstrous pics. So if you submit a monster-themed pic to Pic of the Day, your odds of getting your pic posted are pretty high! (Unless I get completely inundated of course, but I’m not expecting that.) So send me those monster photos! Here are a few things I’m particularly interested in:
- McFarlane Monsters
- Movie Maniacs
- SOTA Now Playing, Nightmares of Lovecraft
- Anything kaiju (Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, Power Rangers monsters, etc.)
- Universal Monsters
- Monster in My Pocket
- Bootleg monster toys
Toy Aisle Trolls > Psyche!-lock

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe@poeghostal.com.

MOTUC Bio Discussion > Snake Men
A reader recently told me he really enjoyed the MOTUC bio discussions, and I realized I hadn’t done one in ages. And so…here you go, Poester! (more…)
Interview > Brian-Man of Spy Monkey Creations, Part I

It was over a year ago when I last spoke with the Spy Monkey crew, and the seeds were being planted for their venture into overseas-produced toys with their original Armory set. Going from their in-house resin weapons to injection-molded PVC weapons with interchangeable parts was just the beginning. On October 1, they released their very first lineup of action figures – the Weaponeers of Monkaa.
I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the toy-forging machines, Brian “Brian-Man” Stevenson. This will be Part I of the conversation with Brian that should give you all more insight into the line and more than a few possibilities going forward. (more…)
October is Monster Month at PGPoA!
So as you may have noticed, things are a little different around here. In celebration of All Hallows’ Eve, October is Monster Month at PGPoA! (Big thanks to Wyatt Jones for that great logo!)
I had originally planned to post a review of a monster toy every single day before realizing just how ridiculously impossible that would be for me at this point in my life. So I’ve scaled it back a bit – there will definitely be monster reviews this month, but sprinkled among other, non-monster-y reviews and assorted fun stuff. (more…)
