Joes For Tots > Super Awesome Magical News

JoesforTots2009

I’m sure you’re getting tired of my pleas for you to give to Toys For Tots. Well tough, because today I have a super awesome announcement that will have you pooping your pants with excitement if you live in Southern California (and even if you don’t, it’s still pretty neat). Loyal Poe Ghostal reader AmericanHyena is a magician who has offered up free tickets to the Magic Castle to anyone who enters Joes for Tots who live in the Southern California area. What is the Magic Castle? Why, it’s a super cool restaurant/bar in Hollywood, California that just happens to be the private clubhouse for the International Academy of Magical Arts. The only way to get in is to be invited by a member! I wish I lived in California still, I’d be all over this.

If you’ve already entered and you live in Southern California, just send me an email at winbigprizeswinbigmoney@gmail.com.

Paul’s Peg > The 2010 G.I. Joe Club Exclusives

If you’re a G.I. Joe fan, the Official Joe fan club is kind of neat. You get some nifty newsletters and pride in the fact you’re an elite nerd that loves G.I. Joe. Each year the club offers up two “free” figures to it’s members. You get to pick between either an old school 12″ sized Joe or a 3 3/4ths style figure. Last year I joined to get a pimped out gold Undertow figure, one of the most bad asses water based figures around. This year you can color me disinterested at best (which is a light shade of blue). For the 3 and 3/4ths figure we get Big Lob.

More like Big Yawn. Get it? I’m sure someone has been clamoring for this figure, but I have no use for him.

Joes For Tots > News Round Up

JoesforTots2009b

Hey y’all, I’ve got to hit you up with some quick news items related to the Joes For Tots contest. Let’s do this!

Item: Toy reviewer extraordinaire Michael Crawford of MCWtoys.com will be doing the honor of randomly picking the winners this year. Thanks, Mr. Crawford.

Item: Articulated Discussion has done an interview with me about the contest. Be sure to watch for it over there when it is up!

Item: If you’re entering the contest (and why wouldn’t you?) keep in mind that for every G.I. Joe toy sold, Hasbro is donating a toy to Toys For Tots. Sweet!

Item: Speaking of other cool charity events this year, the store G.I. Joe Heaven is going to be donating a percentage of their sales to Toys For Tots.

Item: I’d like to thank everyone who has covered the contest including, but we still need to raise awareness for this contest, so below are some new banners that we’ve worked up.

When I was growing up, I didn’t own too many toys–my mother didn’t approve of them or maybe we were just broke. Whatever the reason, it helped me value toys whenever I did get some, even more. As I recall, most of my friends were jealous of a Spider-man I got at KayBee Toys (when they had a special of three toys for $5). But I didn’t care much for Spidey, so I lent him out like crazy. It seemed to me that, around that age, I only had “hero” toys–after all they were my favorite. I had the usual Batman and Robin and Spider-man and Leonardo, but I never had a bad guy. Until…Iron Klaw. (more…)

Joes For Tots > How You Can Help

JoesforTots2009b

Well now that the official Joes for Tots contest announcement has been made, I’m hoping you all are keeping it in the back of your minds when you start your holiday shopping this year (be it Christmas or one of those crazy snake worshiping ones). I’ll be hitting you up with reminders as well as sending out notices around the web to let everyone in on this great chance to try to selfishly win things for helping kids, but I can’t do it all on my own. I need some help!

Joes for Tots is back! It’s the yearly contest that helps kids out by encouraging donations to Toys for Tots. This year we have an even better selection of prizes. Why start so early? Well, we want to remind you as soon as possible that when you see a drop box this year, you might want to think about helping out some young ones.

Let’s not draw this out though, let’s see what you can win (not all items shown in picture).

Paul’s Peg > Dropping Some Thoughts on Upcoming Joes

Hey y’all, I’ve been looking through pictures of upcoming G.I. Joe figures and I can’t help but share some of my thoughts. I’m mostly sharing my thoughts because I have a huge ego and think everyone cares about what I think, but it’s partly because I like the sound of my own voice. Let’s do this!

Arctic Threat Storm Shadow

Okay on the plus side is the camo pattern brings to mind one of my favorite Storm Shadow costumes of all time. On the negative, it’s a simple repaint that’s hard to buy based on the seemingly unending price hikes with Joes. There’s a lesson here, if prices were lower I’d buy a lot more. I’m also sure there’s a contingent of you gnashing teeth at the big rocket launcher, but in this case it’s kind of cool. I like the idea of having a launching zip line.
