Odds ‘n Ends > Ennui Edition

ODD: With what seems like surprising rapidity (given my past experience with such projects), tomorrow will see the debut of a brand-new PGPoA webcomic, The Toybox, written by yours truly and drawn by Red Kryptonite, the talented artist responsible for the graphics on this site. You can expect to see a new Toybox every other Wednesday.

END: DC Universe Classics wave two has showed up at Targets in Oregon and Washington, but there’s no sign of them at the online retailers, who are still being told to expect the March 31 ship date. Looks like I’m going to have to be patient on this one. I hate being patient. I want my Gorilla Grodd now! Anyway, the photos of the production figures look fantastic. I even want Aquaman, who, come to think of it, might have been the only Super Powers figure I actually owned as a kid.

ODD: I caught the one-hour finale of The Batman on Saturday. I never watched the show regularly, and I still have trouble getting past the animation style, probably because I’m so used to the Bruce Timm stuff. But I enjoyed the episode.

END: On a totally unrelated note, I’ve been seeing ads for a movie based on Scott Smith’s novel The Ruins, which I read last year. It’s a horrific, depressing novel, but what freaks me out is how much the movie looks like what I saw in my imagination as I read the book. Anyway, I’m not sure whether I’ll see it in the theater (given my track record, probably not), but I’ll definitely check it out on DVD.

And that’s it for this week’s Odds ‘n Ends…there’s just not much going on in Poe’s world right now. Don’t forget, the caption contest is still going until Friday.

  1. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!

  2. No DCUC around my area. One Wal-Mart had the new old Spider-Man movie figures though. The Spidey has some of the worst paint apps I've ever seen (which is odd, given that they've already released this figure how many times now?), but his gargoyle base was too hard to resist–I'm considering buying a second and making them part of a gothic building backdrop for the strip.

I also got Wrestler Spidey, because I never had a chance at him the first go around. I like him in his wrestler suit, but he's worthless as a regular Spidey.

No kidding. I find monkeys and apes equally amusing, but they're different creatures, phylogenetically speaking.

  4. Especially a giant ape who knows enough not to call himself a monkey!

@Pete–Good luck. Looks like that CSC thing I heard about was a false alarm (no surprise there, really).

Still, with some of the eBay auctions showing up in California, it's possible the online retailers will ship before the March 31 date they're being given by Mattel.

I wants me a giant ape.

  6. I hate being patient! Some new DCUC goodness would be just what I need right now!

  7. Hmm…I can do Olympia…that's only an hour or so away from my place. I'll check the Target in Silverdale first though.

    Olympia.
