Odds ‘n Ends > TGFO Edition

The long purgatory of February (broken up in the middle by the bright gleam of my beloved fianceé’s birthday, of course) is over at long last, and we here in New England can finally start looking forward to a dreary, wet March…and maybe the second wave of DCUC, dammit.

ODD: Again, please give a warm welcome to PGPoA’s three exceptional new correspondents: Paul, PrktTear, and Pete. In honor of the incidental alliteration, I’ve dubbed them the PGPoA Power Pals. Moving forward, I think all future correspondents are going to have to pick a handle that starts with “P.”

END: I read Crisis on Infinite Earths for the first time last week. Holy crap…it’s like reading a comics version of War and Peace. I’ll have more to say about it in my next Poe’s Point.

ODD: Sadly, it appears that March will be as dead a month, toy-wise, as February. If the current estimate is to be believed, the second wave of DC Universe Classics won’t arrive at my door until April (in which case, I’ll just toss all the contestants’ names in a hat and draw out a winner). My TRU order of the McFarlane Halo figures also isn’t scheduled to ship until the end of March (I had a gift certificate and figured I’d save myself the trouble of driving half an hour to the store once a week to see if they’re in). My preorder of the NECA Ninja Turtles isn’t due until April either. Of course, any of these could easily end up shipping in March, but being a pessimist I have to prepare myself for the worst.

END: Mrs. Ghostal-2B is a big fan of Futurama, and I’ve been buying her the Toynami figures. However, I have to say that the Toynami Leela is a big disappointment; it’s under-articulated compared to its Moore Action Collectibles predecessor, and the hair color is wrong (I have a hunch the hair color was stipulated by the license holder, but it’s still not accurate to the series). Worst of all, Nibbler wasn’t included as an accessory. So I nabbed a Moore Leela off eBay. She looks much better next to the other Toynami figures, and her added articulation is a huge bonus. Plus, Nibbler!

ODD: I watched the original Rambo film, First Blood, this weekend. And wow, there are about 254 fewer deaths (seriously!) in that movie than in Rambo–and about 30 fewer than the original novel First Blood. In the novel, Rambo kills tons of people, including cops and civilians. First Blood does have one priceless exchange, though: “Are you telling me that 200 of our men against your boy is a no-win situation for us?” “You send that many, don’t forget one thing.” “What?” “A good supply of body bags.”

END: Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in all the various Bruce Timm animated series, will once again be putting on the vocal cape-and-cowl in the upcoming direct-to-DVD animated feature Batman: Gotham Knight. I’m pleased by the news; while obviously Christian Bale would have been ideal, Conroy’s voice is the one I hear in my head when I read a Batman comic.

  1. OB1

I'm guessing it has something to do with my lightsaber…

  2. Poe

@Obe: Yes. And recently they've been mentioning you in connection to some kind of rare fetish involving wombats–any idea what that's about?

  3. OB1

You hear voices in your head when you read?

  4. That news about Kevin Conroy voicing Batman again is the best thing I've heard all day! AWESOME!

    GO GO POWER PALS!!!!

  5. I'm glad to be a power pal.

And yeah, it's slow for toys. Hasbro hasn't had anything in my lines really. blah.

  6. Poe

Well, again, I think those are probably leaks…the floodgates will open on the 23rd. I just hope Iron Monger isn't ridiculously shortpacked…

  7. After reading that, I checked my Target and TRU both on the way in to work…no luck. 🙁

  8. Poe

Well, there's already a thread over on Fwoosh devoted to them, so they're apparently leaking out in a few places already.

I gots to get me an Iron Monger!

  9. Wait, confirmed! March 23.

  10. I heard a rumor that IM figs are shipping in March to hype the movie. It's only a rumor and the slimmest of hopes, but we've got to have something to hold on to!
