New Topless Robot List > Ten Terrible Cases of Toy-Aisle Trolling
As you may know, Rob Bricken, whom I feel honored to consider a friend, recently left Topless Robot to become a senior editor at io9. But before he left, I managed to sneak in this as one of my final(?) lists – one that’s very near and dear to my heart. It’s a list of the worst examples of Toy Aisle Trolls I’ve ever seen.
Ten Terrible Cases of Toy-Aisle Trolling
Be warned – this list contains more profanity as usual, as I tend to get my dander up when dealing with TAT, as you know. Yeah, I said dander.

Odds ‘n Ends > Darkseid, Guest Reviews, Glyos Armorvor, Black Friday
- This weekend, I hung out with JoshB of CollectionDX, Jester Goblin of…JesterGoblin, and PGPoA lurker and rarely-commenter Sped (PGPoA contributor PrfkTear totally bailed on us). A good time was had by all, as was some minimal trading, though that was all rather amusing because we all had a pile of junk we wanted to unload and no one wanted to actually take more junk back. Maybe it’s time to make some sort of mini-Poe-Con. ArticulatiCon?
- PGPoA Power Pal John Harmon reviewed the incredibly massive DC Collectibles New 52 Darkseid over at TNI.
- I’m working on getting the site up to speed on all outstanding MOTUC reviews. The one thing I’m considering skipping is the latest Weapons Pak – unless there’s a lot of interest? Are there people still thinking of picking one up? Or would just really want to see some photos?
- Sculptor Jason Frailey is going to do a Sculptor’s Commentary for my upcoming review of the Glyos Armorvor. Anything you’d like to know about in particular?
- Just a reminder – Black Friday (and Black Monday) are coming up. When ordering, please be sure to visit my sponsors, including Big Bad Toy Store and Amazon. If you’re ordering anything through Amazon – anything at all – if you click on my ad link on your way to Amazon, PGPoA will get a little kickback no matter what you get. It’s a quick and easy way to help me keep this site going.
- McFarlane Toys will be holding a Black Monday sale with 30% off everything. Does McFarlane make anything you collect these days? (Via Battlegrip.)
- Christmas is coming, and I always like to remind people of my Snow Miser fansite. That thing’s been in existence in one form or another since 1998. Google refuses to crawl it for some reason, though. Not sure why.

Review > Arkham Asylum Batman (Play Arts KAI, Square Enix)
The Arkham series of videogames is my favorite take on Batman since The Animated Series. Yes, I even like it more than the Nolan films, which are great but are bit too grounded in the real world to really feel entirely like Batman to me. Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City straddle the line between the grim and gritty realism of The Dark Knight Returns and the Dark Knight Trilogy while still giving us all the “unrealistic” villains like Mr. Freeze, Clayface and even Solomon Grundy.
Both Mattel and DC Collectibles has tried their hand at Arkham-based action figures. Mattel inexplicably allowed someone other than the Four Horsemen to sculpt Batman and several of the other figures, made them all out of scale with DCUC and half of them out of scale with each other, and gave them middling-to-bad articulation. DC Collectibles’ offerings have great sculpting but minimal articulation (although the upcoming Series 4 does appear to finally have ball-and-hinge hips).
So – where can one turn to for fully-articulated action figures based on the Arkham games? For now, the answer is Japan-based company Square Enix and their Play Arts KAI line. (more…)
Sightings > Vintage Castle Grayskullman Custom by Hunter Knight Customs
I knew someone had to have made a custom of a vintage Castle Grayskullman (aside from the creator of CGM himself), and a cursory search brought up this one by Hunter Knight Customs. I think CGM is the 30th Anniversary figure that most seems like it would have existed in the 1980s – yes, even more than Draego-Man, who, awesome as he is, seems a bit more like something Remco would have produced in one of their high-quality knockoff lines, since they focused a lot more on the dragons and dinosaurs.
Toy Aisle Trolls > Fled Arrow II
Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe@poeghostal.com.
Submitted by: Nik S. “Care of Carle Place Toys R Us…At least one is half right?”
Poe’s Note: The first “Fled Arrow” was just about a month ago. This douche ups the ante by swiping TWO Arrows, making the “II” in the title even more deliciously appropriate.
Speaking of my terrible pun, does anyone remember the movie Fled? Remember how they actually said “We gotta fled” in that movie? Wasn’t that really weird?
