Ask Matty > October 1 Edition

We’re back with another round of Ask Matty!

POE: Was the entirety of DCUC series 3 produced before the transition to the new vendor’s factory?

Matty: Yes. Wave 4 is the first Wave from the new vendor.

At this point, how many body types are there for DCUC figures, and would it be possible to list them?

Lets see, we have male medium (Captain Atom, Black Manta, Atom, others), male small (Sinestro by default though a production error), parts of male teen (Robin, Kid Flash), large brute (Lobo, Despero), part of standard female (Wonder Woman and Harley), Male suit (Riddler, Clark Kent), and there may be another. We are still working on female teen, super thin male, large female, small female and a few other surprises.

What process is used to paint intricate details such as the logo on the Sinestro Corps’ Sinestro’s chest on production figures?

It is called “tempo” which is the same process we use on CARS and Hot Wheels to apply decals. It is essentially a computer created “sticker” that is heat sensitive so it sticks to the plastic to look like a paint op in the end.

Would Mattel consider creating a new BAF Doomsday, or is that unlikely since he’s already had a figure?

Definitely on our short list. (although we would likely use the same sculpt, just scale him up to size.

Now that Mattel has a working relationship with DC Comics, is there any possibility of new DC-produced Masters of the Universe comics?

Could be down the road but nothing is in the cards at the moment to announce quite yet.

  1. Actually, if the process of detail application is the same process that is used on Hot Wheels and CARS vehicles, it's "tampo" not "tempo." 😉

  2. Ask Mattel… Ask them when I see that “Large” Female buck used for Power Girl. Tell them… tell them I have a couple jello molds available for demonstration purposes.

Hey Poe I have some question you can ask The Toy Guru.

    1) Since you plan on doing a Collect and Connect Doomsday. Do you have plans to give Dark Side, Mongual, Bane, and Killer Croc the CnC treatment and make them a little larger?

    2) When you guys get to doing characters like Dessad, Steppenwolf, Mantis, and Parademons. Will you make them look, how they looked in the Super Powers Collection?

    3) Since you have done half of the characters in The Super Powers Collection, do you plan on doing every character in that collection(ex. Cyclotron and Tyr)?

    4) Will we see pics of wave 6 packaged, anytime soon?

Ok Poe, here are some questions you can ask Mattel. Unless you know those questions have already been answered. Thanks pal.

I actually read it as “through,” but in any event, it was a production error. Unfortunately, it is likely to be one that’s too difficult to fix, as it require an entirely new mold (not sculpt, but mold).

That said, they could use that buck for future teenage characters…

    I’m not sure I understand:
….”male small (Sinestro by default though a production error),”….

“though” a production error…????!!! or “thought”(to be) a production error?????
On second,… and third “thought”… though, he still seems to be a little “short”. Too small.

If it’s … default “though” a production error … they should have fixed it.

y'know….wave 3 quality was worse than wave 1 and 2.

I'm guessing the old vendor got the shaft and PURPOSELY fudged up quality of wave 3 by rushing, not being motivated because they were fired, etc.

Anyway….i also think the tail end of wave 3 was made by the new manufacturers at china. If you notice wave 4 has the paper inserts for the character names with cardboard inserts while wave 1 to the early batch of wave 3 has the glossy white paper inserts.

The lastest batch of wave 3 has those cardboard inserts of wave 4. Not only that but the quality of that lastest batch of wave 3 is a bit better than the earlier batch of wave 3

i like the idea for doomsday-the sculpt is perfect, and it would save a bit of money.

  8. I support the larger Doomsday approach–especially since I don’t have one.

Yeah Black Manta does appear to be leaner than Captain Atom, but maybe it’s true what they say about the colour black being slimming.

It’s great to hear that we will get a larger version of Doomsday, and I think it’s a good idea to just scale up the existing sculpt, as other than it’s size it looked fine.

Hmm, why would you ask about the Sinestro logo I wonder?

Also, hasn’t it been confirmed that Black Manta uses a smaller body than the rest of those medium male figures?

Possibility of a new larger doomsday….AWESOME!!!

  12. Esbat

But the ladies told me the size of my Doomsday is fine. RIGHT?!?!

  13. VinMan
