MOTUC Bio Discussion #16 > King Randor

Inspired by He-Man.org’s Roast Gooble Dinner podcast, welcome to PGPoA’s latest MOTUC Bio Discussion!

King Randor™ Bio

Real Name: Randor of the House of Miro

King Miro’s second-born son, Randor, came of age during the Great Unrest, a time when conflict returned to Eternia® following the Count Marzo Uprisings and the subsequent betrayal of his half-brother, Keldor™. After the disappearance of his father, Randor was appointed Captain of the Guard and lead Miro’s troops in battle against Keldor’s growing rebellion. Randor eventually ended the battles by fatally wounding Keldor™, and locking him and his evil warriors behind the Mystic Wall. For this act, he was appointed King by the Council of Elders. King Randor™ raises his staff, exulting in his rule over all Eternia®!

I’m going to break this one down into bullet points. Why? Because I can.

  • Randor of the House of Miro–“House” is supposed to refer to the family line beginning with the original patriarch. So while “Randor of the House of Miro” makes perfect sense, why is Adam “of the house of Randor“? That only makes sense if the Miro line somehow ended, which isn’t the case since Randor is Miro’s son. It’s just weird, and part of me thinks it’s simply because the BW didn’t know any better. A better authority on royalty than me can correct me if I’m wrong, but just because you’re the second son doesn’t mean you get to start a new line.
  • This bio departs immediately from the Millennium canon by making Miro a king, rather than a captain. I like this–it was always weird to me that the Elders just appointed Randor king and then transmogrified into energy beings. I mean, who was even there to verify Randor’s coronation by the Elders, other than Randor, Duncan and a few warriors? The people of Eternia must have been a bit skeptical–for all they knew, Randor had slaughtered the Elders in a bloody coup d’état and declared himself king. But I suppose he was popular enough that it didn’t matter. But I digress: the MOTUC bio corrects this issue so it doesn’t matter.
  • This is, I believe, the first mention of Randor being the second son, strongly implying that his brother Keldor is the first and, therefore, the true heir to the throne. An interesting twist that gives Keldor a realistic motivation for hating Randor so much, without diluting his evil (the reason he didn’t get to be king is because he was evil).
  • Again, we learn Keldor is a half-brother. So who were their mothers? Were either of them bastards? Wouldn’t it be a delightful twist if Keldor were the actual queen’s son and Randor the bastard?
  • I’ll get into this more with Keldor’s bio, but I’m still confused as to the order of this sequence of events: the disappearance of Miro, the defeat of Marzo, the betrayal of Keldor, Randor being appointed Captain of the Guard, and Keldor mounting a rebellion.
  • Randor being Captain of the Guard, a position subsequently given to Teela, does open up the tantalizing possibility that Adam was deliberately passed over for the title due to his affected “goofy” persona.
  • Do people like the Mystic Wall concept? Val Staples (JVS3) of the Roast Gooble podcast hates it, and I kind of agree with him. It’s very much an obvious plot device.
  • If Keldor was the heir to the throne, how could he even mount a rebellion? Wouldn’t he automatically be king? No matter how many people were on Randor’s side, wouldn’t he technically be the one leading the rebellion? Or do you only get to be king if the Elders appoint you? Is Eternia ruled by a monarchy or an oligarchy–especially once the leaders have dissolved into energy beings?

Hello! The name of the King Miro's wife is Queen Desamira, a former Princess in the kingdom of Eternia. Desamira is mentioned as the loving mother of Prince Randor, but nothing about Prince Keldor is explains.

A good story told here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4577636/1/Father_of_t

I like the Mystic Wall. Explains how Adam was able to get away with 16/18 years of being a lazy bum. If fighting and stuff was still going on, I doubt he'd have had the time to be a lazy Prince, with people attacking everyday, etc.

Interesting idea about Randor being the bastard. Assuming either one is a true bastard, if they both knew Miro growing up.

I like the idea of Keldor and Randor being brothers, but I don't care for Skeletor being He-Man's uncle.

Great breakdown Poe. I don't have any real issues with the bio. There are some things that I really like about it too.

This I like. Skeletor being the older brother is actually significant for this little story I think.

Could it be that Mattel is planning on giving us Keldor's mother at some point? That could be pretty neat if executed properly.

the disappearance of Miro, the defeat of Marzo, the betrayal of Keldor, Randor being appointed Captain of the Guard, and Keldor mounting a rebellion.

Kind of a weird Obi Wan/Anakin vibe to their history. I like it.

Do people like the Mystic Wall concept?

I do actually. It allows Randor's kingdom to be a utopia for 16 or so years. It also gives Skeletor 16 years to plan, hone is dark sorcery, and completely take over the dark hemisphere, turning it into his own personal domain. before he destroys the mystic wall and bursts forth to make perpetual war on Eternia. Just imagine what Skelly was doing behind that wall for 16 years. Lots of great stories there potentially. Just like Melkor during the Battle of Bragollach when he broke the siege of Angband and began his final conquest of Middle Earth.

When the mystic wall comes down, I believe it also gives Adam and Teela some perspective on reality and war. They know their idyllic lives are over, and the know specifically what they are trying to restore: peace. Something they've experienced first hand.

I also agree with that Adam should probably be from the House of Miro. That bugs me too. Not a bad bio overall though.

I'm going to reply in bullet points, because you're not the boss of me.

–The House thing pisses me off. I ranted about that once before somewhere (maybe Fwoosh, maybe Org, who cares). In fact, House 'Miro' would be wrong too, since the house isn't the first name of the king or whatever.

I've renamed the Royal House in my MOTUC 'House Eternos.' There, problem solved. The only way Randor should be using Miro's name would be in the old Germanic fashion: "Randor Miroson." And Adam would then be "Adam Randorson."

–In my own bio re-writes, I used the explanation of the 'sons' thing that, while Keldor is the first-born son, he's also a bastard and thus is NOT entitled to the throne. So while Keldor is the first child, his claim to the throne would be extremely tenuous even if Randor covered babies in chocolate, ate them, and then killed himself by being strangled by a mentally challenged clone of Gy-gor.

I'm guessing that's where the actual bios are going too. If Keldor was 'mistrusted' for being Gar, then his mother (who must have been Gar herself) cannot possibly be Queen.

–I'm going to guess that it goes: the disappearance of Miro, Randor being appointed Captain of the Guard, the defeat of Marzo, the betrayal of Keldor, and Keldor mounting a rebellion.

–The Mystic Wall is dumb. I like the idea of it being more symbolic than an actual wall, like the borders drawn on a map. But as an actual, physical structure? Stupid.

If the Sorceress can make everyone on the planet forget that there was a Princess of Eternia, then the Mystic Wall should be no problem.

Still, the Mystic Wall had to have been more than a physical barrier. It would have to hold back teleporters and portals, going under the wall (as in underground)and going over the wall.

I always figured that even though Keldor was born first…he was the bastard. If he's the son of Miro, yet of the distrusted Gar race…wouldn't that make his mother Gar (and thus, I guess making Keldor half-gar…but blue enough to be discriminated against)? Surely, given the prejudice we're to assume from Keldor's bio regarding the Gar, no king would have a queen from that race.

This would give further weight to his resentment/desire for revenge etc…being passed over for the crown due to being an illegitimate son as well as the race card. As for Randor's mother…I'd always assumed that it was Miro's queen…but who knows? Maybe Miro was quite the Eternian ladies man?

There are a lot of good questions here, especially the timeline of events, its very murky.

Not a fan of the "Mystic Wall" concept. I suppose it serves as a convenient explanation as to why there was peace for a time. I can see not being able to dig under the wall as it most likely extends deep into Eternia But why not just go OVER the wall? I can presume it extends miles into the atmosphere, but there has got to be some point where it ends, it can't just extend into outer space. I'm sure Tri-Klops could construct some sort of transport ship, or Skeletor could have just made one of those big green energy balls and lifted everyone over.

Damn, Poe! You really ARE working overtime with this Bio… My gripes with the bio are exactly those points that you mentioned…

On the last one; remember that Keldor was Banished. His attempts to claim the throne after being banished can seem like acts of rebellion.
