Trailer for Nickelodeon’s TMNT, coming in 2012

Here’s the trailer for Nick’s upcoming 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. I’m getting a cel-shaded CGI vibe, which…may…or may not work for me. Really not much to go on here, though.

Plus, the show is at least a year away, so this is very much a “teaser,” in pretty much every sense of the word.

Still, I’ve got my fingers crossed for the new toys. Will Playmates learn their lesson and finally give us fully-articulated 3.75″ and/or 6″ TMNT figures? They were moving in that direction when they cancelled all their TMNT product.

dude, once again, i've played w/ my guile, ryu, and akuma a lot… i've even loaned them to my kids. the hips has loosened some, but certainly no breakages.

    @ dayraven:

I also had a Street Fighter Ryu and the shoulder broke as soon as it was opened. None of the other SF figures, just Ryu. Besides TMNT, NECA have dropped the ball with Street Fighter, since 2009 there has been 6 figures 🙁

I am tempted to get some of the Gears Of War figures. I know NECA make beautful figures but the QC issues really put me off buying them.

    @ Kevin:

i have to say, i can't call anyone out on their individual experience, but all the NECA figs i've bought since "brittle ankle kratos" i've definitely given my gears stuff and my turtles a good load of play, and all is still solid and tight. sorry to hear you've guys have had different experiences.

truthfully, i always wonder when i hear of folks having problems w/ NECA figs if i have great luck w/ them, or they have terrible luck. i don't truthfully know, but mine has held thusfar, hence why i carry the gospel wide and far. i don't every NECA fig, and maybe some of the static figs are more delicate, but i tend towards their more articulated stuff and have no real problems outside of that kratos, whom NECA replaced free of charge.

    @ PrfktTear:

I never picked up the NECA Turtles (was waiting for Shredder), but everything NECA makes is generally a fragile piece of junk.

Of the entire line I think I have one or maybe two NBX figures that didn't fall apart or break in some way. Same with half of their Movie Maniacs figures.

I liked the red bandanna and other 25th figures they showed ut never released.

Sorry if my words on the NECA figures were a bit over harsh but aside from the necks the shell design was also bad, especially the rubbery front. Leo was the worst of the bunch, broke as soon as I opened it.

As I said I really hope Playmates make a great line of toys for the new show. 🙂

  6. Why would Laird be against making tons of cash? I think he's a day late & a dollar short if he wants to save the property's "integrity" that went out the window looong ago.

I've been paying more attention to the Ben 10 stuff on the shelves now and if the those 7" vinyl figures are any indication of the detail/sculpt we can expect, I think we'll be okay.

All my "G1" TMNT figures are in excellent the original Turtles are kinda bland though, but maybe thats just in contrast to how crazy the line went on to become.

I recently dug out my G1 TMNT Leo and Raph for my son to play with (he dubbed them his "ninja guys"), and I was struck how well they've survived the intervening years.

I was also reminded how ugly they are and how awful the articulation is. I hope any toy that might be made will at least resemble the turtles in some way!

Oh, and the NECA ones were perfect.

  8. I still can't believe Playmates released all those great figures based on the 200x series and never re-sculpted the Turtles to look like their show counterparts. The four Turtle toys look nothing like the show designs. It's maddening!

Looking forward to see what they do with the cartoon, and how they handle the story and characters.

Too bad they cancelled them, I was really looking foward to those all-red bandanna 25th anniversary playmates figures.

I would kill for updated versions of the "movie star" Turtles figures. Even today, they are my favorite TMNT figures.

don't like the disproportionate looks and that ALL 4 of them have bladed weapons. Now that Laird and Eastman are out of the way I wish that they made a TMNT classics line aside the new, new toon line… (Supposedly Laird was against a ML/DCUC/MOTUC type of toyline for TMNT… Hence the 25th Ann reissues.)

Wow, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with those. I have all 4 and they have really held up well.

I'm with you, though, in that I want Playmates to join us in the 21st century when it comes to TMNT toys. Bandai U.S. appears to be stepping up their game with Thundercats, come on Playmates, you've failed with Star Trek and Terminator, you don't want to be left behind any further do you?

Wow, that’s the first time I've ever heard of the NECA Turtles being referred to as "fragile pieces of crap". They aren’t the Turtles of my childhood but as a toy collector I certainly can appreciate them. I don’t know if I’d call them any more fragile than any other NECA products.

I’m excited for a new series. I’m usually pretty easy to please but my mileage can vary. The 200x TMNT series did very little for me, I tuned in for a few shows here & there, but I'm a fan of the 1987 series at heart. I didn't grow up reading the comics so those were the only Turtles I knew.

The designs look horrible. Similar to SW: The Clone Wars were everyone has dis-proportioned body parts, which I can't stand. That's just my initial thought, so hopefully things look better once we have the final product.

  15. Mecha-Shiva

Looks cute like urban vinyl. But to me,the toys are more important than the show.

  16. Barbecue17

I really liked the look and feel of the TMNT figures. If Playmates continues along those lines, I'd be happy to add more characters to my collection.

  17. Mountain-man

Something about their hands isn't working for me; they are very blocky and square looking. I'm sure these are work in progress models and will be tweaked.

    @ Dead Man Walking:

    I agree completely with you.

I can not make a final judgement until I see more animation but so far i am kind of hesitant.

However, as far as toys go I also feel that the figures will be sub par until playmates is not longer producing the TMNT line. GOD how I wish i could get more NECA figures….They were as close to a MOTUC line for TMNT as we will ever get.

  19. Valo487

I'd love to collect a well articulated, well done TMNT line, but I realize these things aren't being made for me, so I won't hold my breath, but it'd be really cool.

  20. Dead Man Walking

Playmates will always have a special place in my heart, but as long as TMNT figures are made by Playmates they will be mediocre. And without the charm of the original line, they won't be something I want to collect.

Re: the look of the new character models. It's hard to tell at the moment, but I don't really like the exaggerated limbs. I think the 200X (natch) TMNT look was probably the best so far. I certainly preferred it to the look of the 2005 movie.

There is an old poster where the TMNT, all in red bandanas, are fighting Utroms that I'd love to see the cartoons modeled after. Unfortunately, I can't find the picture anywhere online.
