AFI has MOTU, DC, Ghostbusters previews

Keep an eye on ActionFigureInsider, because it looks like they’re going to have some pretty nice previews up soon.

Speaking of Bow, if you had your druthers, what would you have made his “real name” instead of Kyle Reccula? The best suggestion I saw on He-Man.org was “Bowen Fletcher,” although personally I think I’d have just named him “Flynn.”

Toy Aisle Trolls > Egon Finagler

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe AT poeghostal.com.

Poester T16SkyHopp (I think that’s his handle) sends this one in.

They just stole Egon. And tore off his name tag to make it less obvious he is missing. Lame.

Yeah, Egon. It’s not like we haven’t already had two Egons available via Mattycollector. He’s the most common Ghostbusters Classic figure out there. And the only one this guy stole.

Criminals are a superstitious, cowardly, and apparently, profoundly stupid lot.

Four Horsemen no longer sculpting Ghostbusters Classics

Did you buy the Ecto-1 subscription? Was the fact that the Four Horsemen were working on the line a major factor in your decision? Then Mattel has some bad news for you.

Hey TG,
Saw a response to another post where you listed various lines that the 4H are doing, but Ghostbusters wasn’t listed, probably just a simple oversight. But I gotta ask, are the Four Horsemen still on Ghostbusters? Or are future figures being done by Mattel in-house sculptors like the 12″ Figures?
Thanks!

While the Horsemen did some work on the original bodies for the 4 main Ghostbusters, the current 2011 figures are done by Mattel’s in-house sculpting department! The Horsemen are busy on DCUC and MOTUC and they can only sculpt so much at once!

Wow. I mean…look, I don’t think it’s geekish overreaction to say this is a pretty huge deal, and something Mattel should have made clear before the Ecto-1 subscription went on sale. (more…)

Ask Mattel > Answers for December 1

1.) Mark asks: Can you please stop posing the WWE Legends figures in the packages as it is bending their legs to the side. Just pose them normally, they do not have to be in a dynamic pose to sell. Excellent figures BTW!

We pack out our Legends figures in dynamic poses that match trademark actions of those Superstars. However, we have become aware that some poses tend to negatively affect the figure inside and we will no longer be posing figures in ways that may happen do this.

2.) William Fontaine De la Tour Dauterive asks: Has the WWE team considered using the Terry Funk Elite upper body on more superstars? I feel that torso is more appropriate for folks like Edge, Chris Jericho, Drew McIntyre, Alberto Del Rio, Cowboy Bob Orton, prime Shawn Michaels, etc since it’s a little beefier than what’s currently being used. You will perish in flames! (Also: Mattycollector update)

Mattel has revealed a closer look at their Ghostbusters Classics Louis Tully figure.

Not too shabby–well, technically it’s quite shabby, with the untucked shirt and the greasy pizza slice and so forth. But I’m on board for it. (more…)

Happy Grizzlor Day

Sorry, running a bit behind today…it already looks like the rumors of a better server for Digital River have been greatly exaggerated…anyway, best of luck to all.

1.) You recently announced that the Winston w/ Slime Blower was delayed. Is there any chance the delay is because you’re adding the “football pads” part of his outfit?

He is delayed to make him more accurate to the film. He will have the full vest and pads when released. (more…)

Odds ‘n Ends > October 27, 2010

  • Spy Monkey Creations has the following status update on their Facebook page: “Brian-Man has finished the sculpt of our next offering. It is truly of titanic proportions. (wink, nudge) Come see it in person at the Long Beach Comic Con this coming weekend. Fri. Oct. 29-Sun. Oct. 31. Details on the sale date coming soon.” I think there are going to be some happy fans out there.
  • Speaking of SMC, work is still progressing on the new PGPoA-exclusive item. We’re just hammering out the last few details regarding colors and plastic.
  • Mattel’s replica Ghostbusters PKE Meter will go on sale December 1, at a price of $60. The Diamond Select Star Trek Communicator was about $30; the Tricorder ran about $45. As usual, I think the Mattycollector item is just this side of overpriced. It depends on the quality, though.
  • Yet again, I’m considering branching out a bit on the blog with some non-toy stuff. I’ve posted a poll about it to the left, but already it seems you prefer to keep the focus on toys. And I understand that.
  • Check out Mezco’s upcoming 6″ comic-based Scott Pilgrim figures. Will this finally break the Mezco curse of their last half-dozen or so licenses? Anyone remember Tikimon? I actually liked those.
  • The Four Horsemen donated this DCUC Green Lantern 2-up for a charity auction. The proceeds go to the Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, and the Horsemen’s reign of awesomeness continues.

Ghostbusters II 4-Pack found at TRU

I came across this 4-pack at the Framingham, MA Toys R Us this afternoon. I considered it, but decided not to get it.

I know the set is based on this scene from the movie, but I think Mattel was a bit too “faithful” here, because there’s basically nothing to appeal to me other than the outfits.

For $60, here are a few things I’d want from this pack:

  • Sunglasses on Peter (doesn’t require a new head sculpt–a separate piece, like Egon’s glasses, is fine)
  • A jar of slime
  • Four–not one, not two, not three, but four proton streams.

I suppose this set is more for fans who haven’t been picking up the online releases and want some “regular” ‘Busters, and therefore the sunglasses on Peter might be unwelcome. But give me a break–this set was tailor-made to include the four proton streams. Imagine how many of these they would have sold if they’d included them? Hell, take out the Slimer and the trap and throw in the proton streams and I’d still have bought it!

But as-is, I just can’t bring myself to drop three Jacksons on this thing. Oh, and the Winston is kind of creepy, because it’s the mustache head sculpt, but the mustache isn’t painted, making it look like he got punched in the mouth and his lips swelled.

1.) 3B asks: The larger knee pads on some WWE figures (i.e. Triple H, Batista, and all wrestlers with the kick-pads, etc.) really restrict the leg articulation, is it possible to mold these in a softer, more flexible plastic?

This is something we have been looking into and will pass this comment onto our design team! (more…)
